Give 'Em Hell, Kid

Fun Ghoul’s POV
Shit.

That was the one word that kept replaying itself numerous times in my scattered mind.

It felt years – No; decades until I felt him move beside me, and my heart instantly picked up speed when he lifted and twisted my head around to face his own. I was expecting a cold glare from him and a hurricane of harsh words thrown at me, but boy was I far off.

He had a light blush on his once pale cheeks, and a simple but confused expression was placed on his face. I watched him for a few seconds to see the change in his expression, and his eyes looked into mine for a moment or two when our gaze met.

“Why were you following us?” He asked cautiously; I could tell he was a little uncomfortable, and I sighed. I felt like I had walked in on a surprise, and he was upset that I had done such a thing.

“It doesn’t matter.” I simply said after a minute or two of awkward silence between us, and he gave me one of his Don’t-Lie-To-Me looks, which suddenly made me feel pathetic for the real reason why I had spied on them.

“Okay...” I sighed again, running one of my almost sweating hands through my greasy hair. “I-I thought... That you two were speaking about me behind my back...” I admitted, looking back down again as I brought my eyes to my fingers like before. “I know it’s stupid... I’m just paranoid... Most of the time.” I smiled faintly to myself, and I could feel his gaze on me as I bit my lip.

“It’s not stupid to be paranoid,” He then said, pulling me into his arms again. “But it is a little stupid to feel paranoid around your best friends or even boyfriend.” He chuckled, and I blushed. Did he just call me his boyfriend?

“W-What did you call me?” I asked, pulling back from him to look at his face. I could now see that he was blushing too and he rubbed the back of his neck; blushing more and more as each second passed.
“Um... Well, I...” He stuttered; I guessed that he had just realised what he had just said, and I smiled. He looks so cute when he’s blushing...

He cleared his throat a little as he lowered his hand, and then he took both of my hands in his own two as we looked at each other in the eyes.

“Look, Frankie...” He started, pausing a little before saying the nickname. I guess he wasn’t so used to calling me by my real name really. “I-I know that we’ve only told each other our feelings, but I wanted to know...” He trailed off and I could feel my eyes watering slightly when I realised what he was going to say, and then he grinned slightly at me and I blushed. “Will you be my boyfriend?”

Kobra Kid’s POV
I watched as Ghoul left the room; limping still as he held onto the wall. I then shut the door after him, and walked over to Dr. D’s desk before turning around and leaning backwards on it with my arms folded. He just looked at me, but I couldn’t really see his expression... Stupid shades.

“Did everything go alright?” He asked, and I thought about it for a second or two.
“If being ashamed to tell your own brother that you’re gay is alright, then it went great.” I replied, sarcasm definitely dripping from each and every word that left my mouth. “I don’t get why he was so... Scared.” I wondered, and Dr. D placed a gentle hand on my shoulder.
“It’s just the way Party is.” He sighed, “I guess he didn’t want you to know, because you are his little brother; I guess that because you thought he was the perfect brother, he thought that you’d think differently to when he’d tell you the truth.” He explained, and my face fell slightly as I looked to the floor. He was right... Does he really know us all that well? I thought, asking myself many irrelevant questions as he took his hand away and sat in silence.

“I guess I didn’t think of it that way... Thanks Dr. D.” I admitted after a few minutes had passed by, and when I smiled he did too.
“It’s no problem Kid. Just give him a chance, I know he didn’t mean to hurt you.”
“Yeah, I know.”

Just then we heard some disturbing noises coming from Ghoul in the other room, and I groaned before covering my ears. I couldn’t hear the noises anymore, but it didn’t block out Dr. D’s voice completely.

“Well, I guess Party’s feeling better now then.” He laughed, and I groaned more when I heard Ghoul again.

“P-Party... M-My legs... Ah... G-Gee!”

I must have been making a funny face, since Dr. D just kept laughing.

“What?” I groaned, wanting nothing more than to hear the peace and quiet again. It took a few moments for him to calm down, and after he wiped his eyes he shook his head with a smile still on his face.
“Your face.” He simply said, and I frowned. “You’re going to have to get used to that y’know, they won’t stop just like that.” He chuckled, and I sighed. Yay...
“As long as they don’t do that or anything else in front of me, I’ll put up with it...” I stated, folding my arms again once it was quiet. I was sure that he was about to reply, but he was interrupted by the familiar crackling sound of the radio on the desk in front of him.

“Dr. Death-Defying? It’s Jet Star here.” Jet’s voice kept breaking up a little as Dr. D tried to tune in the radio, and once he was sure that it was okay, he spoke into the microphone.
“This is Dr. Death-Defying reading you loud and clear Jet Star.” He spoke clearly, moving the microphone closer to himself.
“I’m afraid Show Pony and I won’t be back for a couple more days – There are Dracs here at the gas station, and we’ve got a young Killjoy here in need of our help.” He explained. Dr. D thought for a moment or two before replying, and I listened to them so I would know about what would happen.
“Information?” He asked, and I knew that Jet had already asked them since he replied almost straight away.
“She has been following another group of Killjoys around for a while, but she claims to have woken up one morning with no-one in sight. She has no Killjoy name, but her real name is Grace. She is... Uh...” I then heard movement in the background followed by silence, but it was only a few seconds until he returned. “She is 10 years old.”
“Well I’m alright with it as long as she has no weapons, cameras, voice recorders or any of those sorts of items on her. I’m sure Party will be fine with it too. We’ll set up an extra bed for little Grace; food and water are fine at the moment.” Dr. D smiled, and I heard a small squeal in the background, followed by a couple of chuckles.
“Thanks D; we’ll check her over quickly. We’ll be back in 3 days at the most.” Jet Star confirmed.
“Alright, but just remember: Never let them take you alive, sunshine.” And with that, he switched his microphone off.

Jet Star’s POV
Once I heard the click of Dr. D signing off, I switched off the transmitter knowing that we wouldn’t need it – Unless it was an emergency of course. I stood up from the driver’s seat, only to be knocked back again by Grace.

“Thank you, thank you, thank you!” She squealed, and I chuckled.
“Anything for a fellow Killjoy.” I smiled, and then a thought came to me. “Hey Grace... How did you even get left on your own? If you remember of course.” I asked curiously, and she sat on the passenger’s seat as she thought back to her past. After a moment or two she decided to speak, and both Pony and I listened to her story.

“It wasn’t that long ago, really...” She started, “I was being held at BLI/nd by some scary man...”
“Korse.” Pony and I said in unison, and she nodded.
“Yeah, him. I was held there since I was a little girl... It was like my home to a certain extent...” She sighed; I felt sorry for her spending the majority of her life in that dump... “I broke out a few months ago now, and I used this old map to find my way around.” She explained, taking a torn and mud-stained map of the desert and the different zones and handing it to me. “I think I was in zone 3 when I found those Killjoys... I’m not sure.” She sighed, trying to think. I smiled to assure her that it was okay, and she returned it happily.

“Hey, I’m sorry to ruin the happy moment here, but shouldn’t we be watching the Dracs outside?” Pony asked as if we were dumb, and I rolled my eyes.
“They won’t be going anywhere anytime soon, I can guarantee that-” I stated matter-of-factly, but I froze when I couldn’t see them anywhere, but their van was still in sight. “Shit,” I cursed under my breath, quickly getting into the driver’s seat completely before putting my seat belt on. “Pony, hold onto something!” I exclaimed as I roared the engine to life, and Grace also wrapped her belt around her and clicked it in. “I’m going to get the gas so we can get out of here; god knows where those bastards have gone...” I muttered the end to myself; making sure to floor the gas pedal to speed up to the pumps and then skidding to a harsh halt as I stopped directly next to one. I whipped off my seatbelt; ignoring the loud bang and groans coming from Pony as he hit the floor hard in the back of the van.

“Pony, come cover me!” I yelled in a whisper, and then I turned to Grace. “Stay in here, I’ll lock the doors. This van is bulletproof.” I explained quickly, getting into the back of the van before Pony opened the back doors. As soon as we were out I turned to lock the doors, and then I ran to the pump closest to the van with Pony close behind. He kept look out in all directions with his ray gun in his hands, and I had a hand on mine myself, just in case. With my other hand I grabbed one of the pumps, and took my hand away from my ray gun for a split second whilst opening up the van’s gas cap, then put it back once it was open and fuel was going in.

After a couple of seconds I heard someone moving nearby, and I looked over at Pony to see if he had heard it too.
“Did you hear that?” He asked, carefully looking around in the dark; looking for any signs of movement. I nodded, and then concentrated on filling up the van again.
“C’mon...” I muttered impatiently, tapping my fingers on the nozzle. I jumped out of my skin when a laser beam left Pony’s gun, and I knew we weren’t alone.

“Quick!” One Drac shouted; his voice sounding closer as I heard fast footsteps come towards us. “Shoot them down!”
“Over my dead body!” Pony exclaimed, shooting many of them down whilst dodging the beams that came for him. I decided that I needed to help, but I didn’t let go of the pump as I took my ray gun out and shot at the black silhouettes running straight for us. Many shots hit the van as we dodged them, but too many of them were cutting it close; one almost getting me in the face.

As soon as the fuel tank was full I ripped the nozzle away from the van without putting it back, and then closed the gas cap before making my way over to Pony.

“We have to get out of here; it’s too dark and dangerous to be shooting around like this!” I explained, carefully walking backwards towards the van doors as I shot at the remaining Dracs.
“Got’cha.” He replied, moving with me as I unlocked the doors and jumped in, wasting no time to get into the driver’s seat and speed off as Pony shut the doors. As I got back onto the road I relaxed a little, and decided to put my seat belt on no rather than later.
“That was close.” I sighed, switching the van’s headlights on when I knew we weren’t being followed. At least, we weren’t being followed yet.
“Yeah,” Pony agreed, “Even when they’re wearing white they’re hard to see in the dark...” He thought aloud, and I nodded in agreement.

“At least they’re gone now,” I spoke whilst relaxing a little in my seat, “And we’ll be back at the Diner in a day or two.” I glanced over at Grace to see why she was being so quiet, but it turns out that she had fallen asleep as she was curled up facing the window breathing heavily.
“Thank god,” Pony sighed happily, “I need food...” I chuckled, and then smiled.
“Yeah, count me in on that plan.” I grinned, and Pony laughed a little. “I’m sure Grace needs it more though; going months without much food is terrible... It’s almost like the time when I escaped from Battery City...” I frowned, I hated that memory... Too bad Pony had to push it on.
“What happened? You’ve never actually told me your story.” He stated, watching me as he waited for a reply. I sighed.
“Well, when I was 8 my parents moved into Battery. They said that it was the best place to be, but little did we know that every resident there had to take these pills that destroyed every emotion in order to live there.” I explained, and I could see Pony frown in disgust. “So, I refused to ever have them, which resulted in me escaping when I was 9, because I heard of the Killjoys, and I knew then that I wanted to be one and prevent anyone living in Battery in the future; and most of all to get rid of BLI/nd.” I finished, and Pony nodded in approval.
“Sweet,” He grinned, “I wish I had a back story, but all Dr. D knows is that I was abandoned in an empty house when I was a tiny baby.” He laughed, and I smiled.
“Hey, at least you didn’t have to go through the things that Party and Kid went through; that shit was bad.” I frowned, thinking of how they first laid eyes on Korse.
“Yeah, I guess.” He sighed, “Well, I’m gonna get some rest. If you get tired just wake me up and I’ll take over for ya.” He yawned at the end of his statement, and I smiled.
“Alright, g’night.” I said, and he said the same before dropping into a deep sleep.

Only a day or two to go until we were home again...
