Three Cheers For Sweet Revenge

Chapter Three

Iris’ eyes fluttered open, her head pounding with an excruciating pain. She rubbed her temples impatiently; instantly regretting the night before. “I am never drinking again” she muttered angrily to herself. She dragged herself out of bed, a sense of unease rising in her stomach as she pulled on her clothes.

She passed a mirror on the way to kitchen, her eyes widening in horror as she caught sight of her reflection. Her long black blonde was a beer soaked mess and her eyes were blood shot; she’d never looked so bad in all her life.. She wandered into the kitchen, squinting as the morning sun flooded through the windows. “Nice to see you’ve finally woken up” a familiar voice said. Iris rolled her eyes. “shut up Ray” She moaned, rubbing her eyes. Ramona laughed as she continued to eat lucky charms straight from the box, she couldn’t help but laugh at the state of her sister; what the hell happened to her last night!

“Good night?” She asked, raising an eyebrow at Iris who slumped into a nearby chair. Iris remained silent, she could barely remember what happened the night before and even if she did, she didn’t exactly wish to talk about it with her younger sister. Ramona giggled, jumping down from the counter and patting her sister on the shoulder. “Dad’s gonna kill you” she called out as she walked out of the kitchen, cackling to herself as she left the house.

Iris’ eyes grew wide in horror, Ramona was right; her dad was going to flip if he saw her like this. Running from the kitchen, she quickly grabbed a pair of nearby sunglasses before racing out of the house. She had no idea where she was going, she just knew she had to be away from her dad for as long a possible.

She really didn’t need the yelling right now.

Iris wandered through the town, shoving her hands deep into her pockets as she wondered what to do with the rest of her day. She couldn’t stay at home, not while her father was still there; it was barely 9 o’clock. She walked past a starbucks, hesitating for a moment while she stood outside. Maybe I should grab some coffee, this hangover is killing me she thought as she headed inside. She strolled up to the counter, putting on a false smile as she cleared her throat; wincing in pain as a sharp pain erupted inside her neck. That’s the last time I let a guy talk me into doing shots. “Hey can I order a coffee to go please” she asked politely, flashing the barista a sweet smile before handing over a £5 note.

As the barista slowly poured her drink, Iris sighed deeply. Her mind wandering back to the events of last night; almost annoyed at herself for not getting Gerard’s number. A thin smile ghosted on her lips as she found herself thinking about him; how he was always willing to pay for drinks, the way he flirted with her and made her feel gorgeous, the way he protected her from the other creeps in the bar. How many other men nowadays would do anything like that?

“Want any milk?” said the pretty young girl behind the desk, her cheery smile turning the corners of Iris’ mouth. “No, I’m fine thanks” she said quietly, taking warm drink out from her hand and sipping it cautiously as she took a seat at a nearby table. “Iris?” A male’s voice said from behind her. She slowly turned around where she was met with the familiar hazel eyes of Gerard Way. His body tensed, his nerves starting to get the better of him. “Hi” she said, trying to sound confident and uncaring as she offered him an embarrassed smile. She felt so humiliated, how could he see her like this? God she looked awful! Gerard sat in the chair opposite her, his eyes wide with interest. “How are you feeling this morning?” He asked, smiling sweetly at her.

She glanced down nervously at the table shaking her head as she studied the inside of her coffee cup. “I’m fine, just… a slight headache. If I’m honest I can barley remember what happened” she said sheepishly, looking up at Gerard who was still flashing the same cheeky lopsided grin; god he looked adorable. “Well, your friend left you so you and me stayed for a few drinks, we got a little drunk then shared a cab home, I couldn’t have you leave that place alone- god knows what would have happened” The man replied softly, leaning forward and resting his hands on the table. They locked eyes with each other, Iris’ heart fluttered in her chest as warm feeling began to overcome her.

“So what brings you into Starbucks this time of the morning?” He asked, leaning back in the chair as his eyes subtly glanced over her body; her body seemed petite and frail in comparison to his. With proper curves and hips, Gerard could only imagine what she looked like naked, in his hands, in his control. “I’m actually hiding from my dad, he’d freak if he saw me like this” She said gravely, warming her hands as she cupped her drink. Gerard nodded, staring at her intently. “Do you not get on well with your Dad then?” He asked, raising an eyebrow at her.

Iris shook her head, laughing quietly to herself. “Actually I have two. We get on great but Patrick is really overprotective, so I’m hiding here until he and my father go to work” She explained, taking a sip of her drink. Gerard smiled at her; something had changed about him when she said that. His eyes suddenly seemed darker, as though he was hiding something. “Two dad’s eh, wow that’s something” he replied, his voice somewhat cold as he folded his arms against his chest. Iris narrowed her eyes, what was his problem? He couldn’t be a homophobe could he? Sure he was older than her but that was ridiculous. “Yeah… it wasn’t easy. I mean living in Tory town, people wernt exactly happy with the idea of two men raising children. But they’re good people.” She replied, raising an eyebrow at him, trying to suss him out.

Gerard leaned forward, his face softening as he took Iris’ hand. “They must be to have a daughter like you” he said sweetly. Iris blushed, biting her lip as she gazed down at the coffee table; he was too cute. He glanced up at the clock, his eyes widening as he noticed the time. “Listen I have to shoot off” he said sadly. He grabbed hold of a napkin and quickly wrote something down. “Call me later and I’ll we’ll meet up” he added, kissing her on the cheek as he swiftly left the coffee shop. Iris held the number in her hand, giggling quietly to herself. She couldn’t believe what had just happened.

Maybe he was a nice guy after all.

Frank slammed his car door shut, checking it was locked before walking across the car park. “Down the come, the swarm of locusts…” he sung quietly to himself as he buttoned up his blazer; completely oblivious to the world around him.

Gerard watched from a distance, his hands clenched in his pockets as he stared at him with pure hatred. “Don’t worry Frank, I’m going to ruin your life the same way you ruined mine” he muttered venomously as he watched him Frank enter his office building. A thin smile slowly formed on his face as monstrous thoughts of revenge slowly danced before his eyes.

By the time he was finished, Frank would wish he was dead.
