Alive Again
Feeling Small
All my faces, they all were wasted,
You're barely breathing, I know,
What if it started to show?
And I know it won't ever change,
But it hurts the same,
-Marianas Trench [Feeling Small - B-Side]
Gerard sat there, alone in the dark, holding his love. It could have been five minutes, or five hours and he couldn't place it. His sense of time was fucked. Frank was pale, and Gerard couldn't remember how much blood was taken. What he knew was that Frank wasn't waking up, he saw how pale Frank was. He knew Frank lacked too much blood to come to his senses, unless he was dead of course. He didn't want his mind to wander there at the moment. He cried. He had never cried over a human as much as this. He found himself thinking about how pathetic he was, and how useless crying was. Crying wouldn't bring Frank back. Not in a million years, and anyone who thought it would was completely daft.
Gerard didn't possibly decide to look for a pulse, even the smallest one until maybe ten minutes after the incident, and yet, to him it felt as if it'd been ten hours. He felt around, on his lovers neck, and wrists. His very pale and blood deprived lover. He kept feeling for a pulse, desperate for something, for anything. Even the smallest sign. He grew wary, and started to panic. His breathing got worse, and soon he was having a panic attack. Tears streaming down his pale face, his body quivering and shaking, and he started to feel faint. He couldn't stop the tears that blinded him, he couldn't control the tremors he was having. Eventually, Gerard found a small pulse, and then he couldn't tell if he was panicking even more, or if he was crying of happiness, knowing he didn't kill Frank. His heart seemed to restart itself, and he felt relief wash over him.
"Frankie... Frankie please. Please wake up, lo zucchero. Per favore, Frank." He pleaded and cried, but was only denied his lover waking... For now. "Frank, please..." He didn't know what to do, he wouldn't leave his Frankie. God no. "I need you." He choked out, his voice thick and hoarse. Gerard Way, the vampire with emotions, the vampire who cared, the vampire who wasn't savage, and the vampire who hid his emotions couldn't hold them in anymore. Gerard was broken by his own actions. It was certain to be his demise. He pulled out his phone and called the hospital and asked for them to dispatch an ambulance. "He's- he's unconscious.. He's lost a lot of blood, I- I'm sorry.. I'm so sorry." He cried into the receiver. He didn't know what was happening to him. Frank made him feel human. Frank took an undead creature and made him all the more human. Far more human than Gerard could have imagined being. He was notified that the ambulance would be there soon, and started to cry harder, begging Frank to wake up.
Thunder rumbled overhead. Typical Jersey weather, but then it started pouring. All at once. In an instant, and Gerard had no time to process it. It just happened and wouldn't cease. "Frank- Fuck. Frankie- I need you. I need you- I'm in love with you, you idiot! You can't fucking leave me like this. I'm sorry, I'm so sorry." And as he sobbed, the thunder sounded like it drew closer, and he thought he imagined stirring, and the faint sirens in the distance. "You don't understand Frank! I love you, you made me fall in love with you! And fuck- I know. I know you lied about being in university, but I don't care. I love you. You stupid fucking idiot! Please wake up.. This isn't fucking funny!" He was yelling at the top of his lungs. Yelling over the rain, over the thunder and traffic. He was yelling over the sirens wailing, over everything. "Frank- you- You made me far more human than I ever imagined being. You changed me for the better and I can't live without you! I want to adopt all twelve of those dogs you wouldn't shut the fuck up about that one time, and I want to paint the walls of your house with you, and kiss you in the rain, but not like this! I want to live, love, and travel with you. Frankie, I need you." He croaked out in the end, and placed his head on Frank's chest, listening to the faint heartbeat that gradually got faster. "I need you." He closed his eyes. Gerard wanted desperately for Frank to be okay. He needed it. He felt a small movement, and nearly shrieked when he felt a hand on his waist.
"I need you too." He barely heard, but the words were spoken after an hour. Gerard almost jumped, but he started to cry harder and harder. "I'm not leaving you yet. You're not getting rid of me that easy." Frank attempted a laugh but coughed instead. "I feel... Tired."
"NO! Frank, you can't sleep! You can't leave me. The ambulance are here now, I'll come with you." Frank barely nodded as the ambulance arrived and helped Gerard pick Frank up and put him on a stretcher, hoisting him into the ambulance. "It'll be okay."
"Gerard Way?" The nurse asked. Gerard simply nodded to him. "Thank you for calling. I'd let you come with but I can't unless you're family." Gerard's face fell, and looked to Frank, Frank pleading with his eyes. "Look, I know you want to-" Gerard took no shit from the nurse and answered boldly.
"He's my fucking husband and if you think I'm leaving him with you alone, and a few other doctors or nurses, you're wrong. I love him, and I'm completely fucking in love with him, so step the fuck aside, because I'm coming with you whether you like it or not." Frank grinned weakly, and blew Gerard a kiss as best he could. "So just- just do your job with me here." His finish was short of lame, but it was enough for the nurse to close the door, tell the driver to hit the fucking gas, and to start his job, doing tests to see how Frank lost blood.
Hours later, Frank was lying in hospital, curled up into Gerard's side. "Do you think I'll be okay?" He asked Gee.
"I hope so, sugar." Gerard sighed. "Frank-"
"Gerard- stop.. You said you're sorry thousands of times. Don't- don't apologize again. Please. I forgive you. I- why didn't you just tell me you were hungry. I'd let you have a bit of blood. It would be okay. I just- didn't want it done without consent. You shouldn't have starved." Frank attempted.
"Frank, no- I- It was just all the wine, and sauces got to me, and I wish I stopped myself. I'll never-" And the last thing he remembers was wishing he didn't hurt Frank, because Frank had a special way of shutting up the elder boy. It was with his lips, and how he tasted of coffee and nicotine. It was intoxicating to Gerard, and it certainly put him in a trance. He couldn't get the fuck over it. Gerard cupped Frank's face with his hands, and kissed him slowly and lovingly. The only thought he possessed at the moment was 'I love him'.
***Three years later***
"Gerard fuck off!" Frank shrieked as Gerard tickled him without mercy and then deeply kissed him, moving to kneel over Frank. "Mfff!" was all Frank could muster when he felt the cool, chapped, yet welcoming lips on his, and as his stomach exploded with all these feelings for the older man.
"Frankie, you know you love me." Gerard giggled.
"God yeah." Frank breathed out, and to Gerard it sounded far more breathless than it should've been. "God yeah I do. You're so beautiful. Hell, you're breathtaking... and I know you're on top of me right now, but- um..." Gerard started to blush, "How would you feel about maybe adopting those dogs?" Gerard laughed and shook his head.
"That would be nice, but Frank," He reached behind him as he sat up, "how would you feel about marrying me?" And let's just say, the two spent the night living in each others presence, and being far too distracted by each other to watch any of the movies they decided to watch in order to celebrate.
