He burns my skin, but you might get another look in, if I don't die tonight
S/C/A/R/E/C/R/O/W
Gerard's POV
It felt like a dream as I flew through the air, eyes still closed, ears temporarily deafened. But then I hit the ground.
My eyes flew open as I gasped in shock, desperately trying to force air into my lungs. Everywhere was chaos - flames and people shouting, soldiers running in to help.
But I had one thing on my mind.
Frank.
I had finally figured out how I felt towards him, and now, he was gone.
No literally, I couldn't find him.
"Frank!" I screamed, pulling myself to my feet, dragging myself along the edge of the trench. "Frankie!"
My voice was raspy, strained, and pain ripped through my shaking body with every step I took. But I had to find Frank.
"Frank!" I rasped, grabbing onto another soldiers arm. "Have you seen Frank?"
He shook his head numbly, and continued hauling away a wounded soldier.
"Have you seen Frank?" I asked, grabbing at another soldier. He just stared.
"You know, short brown hair, hazel eyes, shoulder height? Frank Iero!" I yelled.
"Come with me, it's gonna be okay, your hurt and in shock, you-"
I cut him off.
"Frank!" I screamed. "I have to find Frank!"
I shoved the man away, because he didn't get it, nobody got it, they didn't understand. I wasn't going to stop looking just because I was 'hurt' or 'in shock'. I could feel the blood on my face, my chest - the excruciating pain in my legs that didn't seem to stop me walking.
I had to find Frank.
But he didn't seem to be anywhere.
"Frankie!" I wailed, collapsing to the ground as a sob escaped my throat. I couldn't find Frank.
He was gone.
But then I heard it, through my ringing ears, the faint noise coming from just ahead.
"G-Gee"
"Frank?" I whispered, more to myself than him.
But then I realised I hadn't misheard.
"Frank!" I cried, scrambling forwards, ignoring the pain shooting through my legs, the fire burning in my chest.
And then I found him, lying spread eagled on the ground, his eyes shining through a face covered in grime.
"Frankie", I breathed, relief washing over me as I staggered to my knees beside him.
"It's gonna be okay Frankie, we're gonna go home, we-"
My voice died as I felt the warm liquid seeping through my uniform from the ground. I looked down, and saw that my trousers were stained a dark red, the colour that was slowly soaking up the fabric.
Frank's hand gripped mine, and my eyes found his face again as he smiled weakly, his teeth flashing red.
"Ge-e", he croaked out, and I reached out a hand to gently stroke his face. "There's - something I h-ave to t-ell you", he whispered, and the sight broke my heart.
"Shh, Frankie", I soothed, trying to ignore the growing pool of blood. "It - it's gonna be okay..."
I couldn't even convince myself.
"I-ve been m-mean-ing to t-tell y-ou -"
"Shh, Frankie, don't speak", I choked, tears spilling down my face.
"I h-have to t-tell you G-ee", he stuttered. "I l-love -"
But I cut him off, silently bending down to place a kiss on his lips.
I felt him kiss back, his hand clutching mine tighter. I could feel him trying to pour all his feelings into that kiss.
But then he went still.
I broke away, looking at him with eyes clouded by tears.
"Frankie?" I whispered.
"Frankie?"
But he lay still, his eyes closed peacefully, and as I began to sob, his bloodied hand slipped from my grasp.
"Frank!" I cried, shaking his shoulders. "Frank please! Don't leave me Frankie, you can't leave me, you can't, you-”
The world spun violently as I staggered backwards, trying to take in the enormity of what had just taken place.
But then it spun again, and I was looking at the ashen sky, instead of Frank's face.
Everything was blurred, but I could feel Frank's still-warm body pressed against mine. Even if I had wanted to move, I couldn't.
All I could hear was ringing as I saw figures moving around me. Words passed through my numbing mind as I stared at the smoking sky.
'Leave a dream where the fallout lies'
Frank was the dream I never saw coming. The dream that turned into a nightmare when the world around us exploded.
'Watch it grow as the tear stain dries'
I couldn't feel the tears I knew were falling from my glassy eyes. S/
'Just to keep you safe tonight'
As the world spun and faded, and unknown faces were shouting above me, one thought crossed my mind.
I hadn't kept Frank safe tonight.
Notes
Hullo there everyone :P
i had an epic movie scene playing in my head while writing this :3
for those of you that don't know, a 'fallout', as used in the mcr song S/C/A/R/E/C/R/O/W, is the aftermath of a nuclear explosion. The explosion in this story isn't nuclear, or they'd all be dead or poisoned, it's just a standard hand grenade as used in war.
But still, it's pretty fitting
thank you all so much for reading, this is the last chapter, but there'll be an epilogue. :)
title: I shouldn't have to tell you - the main reason we're all here
