Frankie woke up cold and uncomfortable in a sterile-smelling, white walled hospital room. Something beside him was beeping steadily and he was having a bit of a hard time remembering what happened and where he was. It came back to him in a quick set of flashing images.

"Gerard!" He tried to get up but there was a sharp pain in his left arm on the inner elbow.

"Frank motherfucking Iero what do you think you're doing?! Sit your ass back down!" a familiar voice briskly scolded from behind him, large, warm hands pulling him by his waist back to the bed-thing that he just stood up from.

Frankie turned and saw that huge bushiness of curls that he used to see every day.

"Fluffy!" Frank yelled, his features lighting up.

"Don't try to hug me, kid. You'll tear that IV out of your arm more, shit." Ray reached down and pushed the button to call the nurses in.

"Okay, but, I gotta take this out, I gotta go find- This is my fault. Dammit, Ray, this is my fault. I gotta go make sure that he's okay, I gotta-"

"Hey, hey, Frankie, calm down. Your roommate is okay and he's doing better and don't move your arm, stupid, it's in a cast you're going to hurt it-"

"Is everything okay in here? Oh my-" a pretty little volunteer nursing assistant with dark hair and white teeth scampered into the room and placed a small, warm hand lightly on Frankie's knee, the other using a wad of gauze to clean the blood away from around the IV needle that ripped some of Frank's skin, but it wasn't really more than a normal scratch. "Oh, Honey. You need to be careful and not move!" she giggled. "Aunalee, can you come in here? Iero's awake."

A tall nurse with auburn hair walked in. "Hello, Frank. How are you feeling? Does your arm hurt any?"

"Yeah I'm fine- Where's Gee? Is he okay?"

"Yes, he's fine. He lost a lot of blood, and he's not been conscious yet. Though he's been murmuring about you. He's okay, don't worry. Are you really okay?"

"I'm FINE - I want to go see Gee. Now."

"Frankie, calm down. Gerard is okay," Ray said, putting a comforting hand on Frank's bicep. "They just said that, everything is going to be fine-"

"AUNALEE!"

"What's going on?" Aunalee looked worried and alarmed by the shriek from down the hall.

"It's Way. He's having problems with his broken ribs."

"Shit," Frank muttered. Aunalee and the assistant ran down to were Gee was. Frank ripped the IV out of his arm and ran after them.

"Frank, wait!" Ray yelled, running after him and dragging him back.

"I love you, Ray, but you do not want to fight me on this."

"No, Frankie, you need to stay here. You're strong, and you're fast, but I'm bigger. You need to rest - you're concussed. You can't move too much. Please, think about me. Think about Gee needed you to be okay when he gets better. Please don't."

"His ribs might have punctured his lungs, we need an x-ray."

"No, an x-ray will take too long - if it's a punctured lung he'll be gone by then. We need to operate right now."

"He's on blood transfusions, is that safe?"

"Probably not, but we need to take that chance."

In the dark corner of the hospital room stood a tall figure, glasses perched on the end of his nose. "Do the surgery. Save him. He's all I have left. My brother is all that I have left."

And as the doctors rushed Gerard out of the hospital room and into the operating room, Michael Way slid down into a crumpled ball on the floor and sobbed.
