Everyone at Silver Star brands telemarketing services knew about Blue Pious. Blue was the type of girl who was good student in high school, a companion, and a friendly person no matter how bad she felt.
Blue Pious was about 5’2” with reddish-brown hair and deep indigo eyes that were always rimmed by black eyeliner. She usually wore jeans, flats, and either a Chelsea Voile V-neck long-sleeve or a short sleeved blouse. She was shy person, but knew a lot about how to handle stressful situations. She was a big alternative rock fan, which was why she had a rolled-up rock shirt in her purse. She also enjoyed reading, eating chocolate, and her little husky Graham. If she wasn’t around at work, she was mostly likely found at home with her roommate, Mary-Kate, or at the coffee shop a few blocks away, borrowing the Wi-Fi for personal reasons.
Although she was still in college, Blue landed a job at Silver Star when things had gone sour in the restaurant business. Her former co-workers kept complaining about her attitude, forcing her to quit because she didn’t want to deal with their snarky attitudes every day. She went job searching and, with help from a few college co-study-workers and her boss, Silver Star welcomed Blue with open arms.
Audrey, one of the managers, introduced Blue on her first day and everyone hit it off fairly well with her.
One day, Blue skipped into the office, humming. It wasn’t unusual for Blue to hum while she worked or walked through the hall, but her best friend and co-worker, Melissa Webster, knew something was up.
As Blue sat at her desk, pulling out the paperwork that need to get done before tomorrow out of her brief case, Melissa leaned up against Blue’s cubicle.
“Hey there, little miss sunshine, what’s up?” Melissa asked, breaking Blue train of thought for a moment.
“Oh! Gee-whiz Missy!” Blue gasped, resting her gloved hand over her heart, “You scared me there!”
Melissa snickered lightly, watching Blue as she pulled her gloves and coat off. Blue had been known to be startled easily. When she first started back in early October, some of the guys played tricks on her, scaring the little woman to bits.
“Hahaha, Blue. You scared-y cat!”
Blue furrowed her brow at Melissa before asking, “What do you need?”
“Nothing. I just noticed you seemed to be extremely happy this morning. So I was curious and had to ask.”
Blue rubbed her hands together and looked up at Melissa, “Did everyone see?”
“I’m pretty sure it’s safe to say everyone heard the usual humming, but is curious about the skipping,” Melissa teased.
Blue felt her cheeks redden in embarrassment. The two girls looked at each other while Blue tapped her fingers on the desk, feeling nervous.
“If I tell you, promise not to tell anyone else?”
“I swear,” Melissa winked, “Is it a guy?”
“Yes and no.”
“Yes and no?” she gave Blue a raised eyebrow, “How can it be both?”
“Well…” Blue tapped her fingernails on the desk again, trying to explain, “You know how my mom works at that shipping and receiving company?”
“Over by the hospital?”
“Yeah, that one.”
“Oh sure! I remember!” Missy said.
“Well, anyway. She works with another woman who bought some VIP tickets for a band I really like…”
“Which one?” Melissa asked.
“My Chemical Romance.”
“The emo one?”
Blue furrowed her brow again, “they’re not emo, they’re… unique.”
Melissa laughed and leaned back against the wall, “Okay, so…?”
“She bought the tickets for her son and his fiancé for an early wedding present I guess and they had a fall out. So she brought them into the office and asked if anyone wanted them and my mom took them to give them to me.”
Melissa’s jaw dropped, “VIP tickets? For FREE?”
“Yeah!” Blue smiled, “It includes a backstage tour, a meet and greet with the band during half time, and front row seating!”
“Holy Crap Blue! That’s great!”
Blue shrugged, “It is, but I have two tickets and I would like it if someone came along with me.”
Melissa nodded, “Where is it going to be at?”
“At the Fireside Bowl in Chicago.”
“When is it?”
“This Saturday at 4,” Blue hesitated before asking, “Do you want to come with me?”
Melissa nodded, “I thought you’d never ask!”
