After The Break Up

Gerard's P.O.V I opened my eyes and looked around for Frank. He was nowhere in sight. I sighed, then closed my eyes. Probably gone home. I know how uncomfortable the couch is. He'd be more comfortable in our bed. After being held captive, a bed would be best anyway. I felt too sleepy to think about it anymore. So I drifted off. I woke to a pair of lips on mine. I opened my eyes to see Frank looking down at me. He pulled back and smiled. "Hey, baby." He said, quietly. "You ready?" I frowned. "For what?" He stood up and gestured around us. "To get married, of course." I looked around the room. My eyes widened in surprise. Everyone we knew was there. Mikey grinned. "Your getting married, again, bruv." He pointed out. Lyndsay smiled. "This time it's to the one you really love." She looked kinda sad. "The one you would have been with if I hadn't ruined it for you." I shook my head. "You didn't ruin it." I smiled. "If you had, I wouldn't be marrying him now." "But now your both free to be together at last." Jamia added with a smile. "I'm sorry, Gerard." I smiled at her. "You have nothing to be sorry for." I said. "Everyone makes mistakes." Frank took my hand in his. "Gerard's right." He said, smiling down at me. "We sorted it." I smiled up at him as a dark haired vicar stepped out from behind nurse Delia Yates. "Are we ready to get married?" He asked, smiling. "Definitely." I answered, not taking my eye's off Frank. "I've been ready for a long time now." Frank said, keeping his eye's on me. "Alright then." The vicar said, cheerfully. "Let's get you two married." We both turned to face the vicar, but kept our hands joined. The vicar nodded then started the ceremony: "It is written that the greatest of all things, the most wonderful experience in the world is love. Frank and Gerard, into your lives has entered a deep and nurturing love, and you have asked me as a religious leader, to help you celebrate and affirm that love. We Will call your love partnership a Civil Union, for wherever there is love, that which is holy abides there also. For as long as men and women have walked on the earth, there have been some human beings who have shared their deepest expression of love with a person of the same gender. Our faith tradition, religious leaders, have grown to recognize the validity and beauty of that special way of loving, and strives with others to overcome the prejudice and fear about it in our society. It is our hope that one day all true love partnerships may be legally recognized and fully affirmed. Frank and Gerard, you have honored us by inviting us to witness your commitment to each other in holy union. May your love grow sure and strong and true in the days and years of your shared life together." He paused to smile at us. "The ceremony in which we are all now participating is a bold, even revolutionary act. As you all know, many in our society do not yet recognize the validity and worth of the Civil Union we today celebrate and affirm, indeed many are openly hostile to two persons of the same gender who decide to commit their lives to one another. We hope that someday men who love men and women who love women will no longer feel the scorn of some. But in the meantime, we can express the joy and approval which we feel for Frank and Gerard as they give public recognition to the love they feel for each other, and the commitment they freely make to one another this day. Let me therefore ask those of you who have gathered here today this: Do you, who know and care for Frank and Gerard, give them your blessings now as they enter into this new relationship, and do you promise (in the days and years ahead) to give them your deepest love, understanding, and support during both good times and bad? If so, say 'We do.' " Everyone smiled. "We do." They said in unison. The vicar nodded and continued: "Frank and Gerard, please face each other and speak your vows." Frank turned to face me and smiled as I turned to face him. "Gerard." He started."I came here today to join your life. I promise to be honest to you, to love you, and to spend my life showing you just how much I love you. You mean so much to me. May only my best qualities continue to shine and may our bond continue to grow stronger. Time may pass, fortune may smile, trouble may come. No matter what we encounter together, I vow here today that my love for you will be my only love. I will make my home together with you from this day and forever." "Frank, I come here today to join your life. I promise to be faithful to you, to love and respect you, to grow old with you. We have been through many things with each other. May those things help to bond us and continue to make us grow stronger. As time passes and life throws us trials, no matter what we may encounter together, I vow here today that I will always love you. I will make my home with you from this day and forever." "Who here bears the rings?" The vicar asked. Mikey stepped forward. "That would be me." He said as he passed the vicar two plain gold wedding bands. The vicar gave a ring to Frank. "I love you, Gerard." Frank said as he placed the rings on my finger. "I promise I will never stop loving you." The vicar passed me a ring. "I love you, too, Frank." I said as I placed the ring on his finger. "You are, and always will be, the love of my life." The vicar smiled, then continued: "Frank and Gerard, for as much as you both have committed yourselves to one another (and in token of this bond have spoken your vows and exchanged rings) by the authority vested in me as a minister of this religious congregation, I recognize you as united in civil union. You may embrace." "At last." Frank grinned, then sealed our lips together as the small hospital room erupted into cheers.
