Born To Lose

Chapter 12

*Frank's POV*
We reached Gerard's house after a long silent walk over there, our hands locked together the entire way. It was a little cold out, but that was okay since we headed right inside when we got there. The only problem, was Gerard's parents.
"Oh..." Gerard said as we walked in, and his dad was on the couch. We'd expected to be alone.
"Well hello Gerard. How was school?" Gerard's dad said, obviously not noticing me standing behind Gerard, but that was okay. I'm not used to attention and really wouldn't like to start.
Gerard turned around to face me, as if asking if it was okay to introduce me, and I just looked at the floor. I think that Gerard took that the wrong way, or really didn't care, because he stepped to the side, revealing me.
"Dad, this is Frank. Is it okay if he stays a little while? His mom, uh, isn't home." Gerard said nervously.
Mr. Way looked a little surprised at me being here, but quickly recovered.
"Of course he can stay!" He said with enthusiasm, and I was extremely relieved. "In fact, would you like to stay for dinner, Frank?"
"Sure. I mean, if it's okay with everyone."
"Of course it is." He said walking into the kitchen, where I supposed Gee's mother was, because before me and Gee could leave, Mr. and Mrs. Way walked out of the kitchen together, Mrs. Way coming right up to me to shake my hand.
"Hello Frank. I'm guessing that you know Gerard from school."
"Yeah, and, I mean," I pause to look at Gerard, and he confirms what I'm about to say by nodding his head a little. "I live next door too."
"Oh! That's exciting. I guess we'll be seeing a lot of you then." She said straightening up from leaning down to talk to me.
"I think so Mrs. Way." I said, looking at Gerard, who was already looking at me smiling.
"Oh, please, call me Donna." She waved a dismissive hand, walking into the kitchen with her husband behind her.
I breathed out a sigh of relief at how happy Gerard's family was that I was here, and I was also glad they liked me. I was expecting dirty looks all around like how home was before my dad left.
"What's wrong?" Gerard asked looking at me concerned.
"Oh nothing, I'm just really happy I didn't like get slapped or anything like when I normally walk through doorways to houses."
"Frankie that's horrible." Gerard said pulling me in for a hug.
"What? That I'm happy?" I asked, confused.
"No. Of course not. That you get hit when you come home." Gerard said pulling away from the hug to look me in the eyes. "I can promise you with everything I have that you are safe here."
"Thanks Gee." I said truly, going back to hugging him.
There was a small pause until Gerard pulled away.
“How about we just go upstairs and hang out until dinner yeah? I think I have some explaining to do.” Gee said grabbing my hand.
“Sure…” I said back, extremely unsure of where this all was going, but knowing that I would follow Gee there until the end.
I let him drag me upstairs and pick me up, setting me down on his bed giving me a small kiss on the cheek. His room was perfect. The walls were painted black, but there were band posters all over the walls making it perfect. He had a desk in the corner of the room that was covered with sketch stuff from books to normal pencils to color pencils and everything in between. The room was small too, making it cozy and comfortable. I immediately wished I never had to leave here. It was almost as perfect as Gerard himself.
“Frankie? You there?” Gerard asked, thinking I wasn't paying attention while I was looking around your room.
“Yeah I’m here. I’m just admiring your room. I have one poster, my bed, Pansy, and a couple outfits, and you have this.” I answer, still staring at a specific poster of The Misfits on his wall that I thought was awesome.
“I know, I wish you didn’t have to go back there.”
“Neither do I.” I whispered back.
There was a pause before Gerard spoke.
“That’s actually what I have to speak to you about.” He paused again looking at my questioning look. “Well, first off, I was wondering if, uh, you, maybe, I mean, you don’t have to , but if you could, meet my parents, I mean, again, just this time, as, like, my boyfriend?” He looked at me, obviously scared I would laugh or reject the idea or something.
“I would love to Gee. Your parents are amazing!”
“Ha. Thanks.” Gerard said with a chuckle. “Um, but anyway, I was also wondering if you would like to come over here everyday after school, and only go home once we know your mom is asleep or something…” Gerard said, again, with the look on his face leaving me knowing he was bracing for a horrible rejection.
“Gee.” I started “We both know that can’t happen. I wish it could, but my mom would just wonder where I was all the time, your parents would wonder why I was here all the time and they’d probably get tired of me too, and I don’t know if it would work overall.” I stopped to take Gerard’s face in my hands so I could wipe away a falling tear and look into his eyes. “Gee, it was a great plan. I’ll even stay the night if you want, but I think we need to think about it a little longer first, okay?”
“Okay Frankie.” Gee said leaning in for a quick kiss that ended way too soon for my liking when he pulled away and rested his forehead on mine. “I just hate seeing you hurt so often Frankie. It tears me apart inside sitting here, unable to protect you from your mom. At school we’re together. At home you have that crazy woman trying to beat you to a pulp and criticize you every other second.”
“Gee it’s okay. I always make it. I’m always fine. I’ll be here for you, and I know you’ll be here for me when you can be.” I paused pulling back to look at him again and wipe some more tears away. “Gee. You can’t always protect me. I’ve been dealing with this for years. I can deal with it for a couple of hours while you’re gone now too, okay?”
Before Gee could respond, his mom called us down for an early dinner.
“Now let’s just go eat and relax and then we can come back up here and relax. I forbid you from worrying a single millisecond the rest of the day, okay Gerard?
“Okay.” Gee said looking down as I grabbed his hand and pulled him up so that we could have dinner. Gerard was still looking down when we got to the bottom of the steps, so I stopped a second to give a him a quick kiss and an ‘It’s okay” before directing him the rest of the way to the dinner table where we sat on one side with Donna and Mr. Way on the other.
It turns out we were having spaghetti, which I loved, so needless to say I was very happy with earing, but I knew I shouldn’t eat all of their food, so I only took a small serving and a piece of garlic bread. Gerard grabbed just about the same, so I’d know I’d done good.
The table was silent but for the clinking of plates and silverware while everyone got their food until Mr. Way started speaking.
“So, how did you meet Gerard, Frank?”
I tensed up slightly, but looked over at Gee to make sure it was okay to tell the whole story to his parents, to which he nodded, which was good considering I really would want to lie to the Way’s, considering how nice they were.
“Well, I had decided to, uh, take a walk,” I started, really not feeling like mentioning my mom beating me, but technically not lying. I wasn’t lying. I was walking, just not where I was supposed to be. “And so I naturally turned right and almost ran into your moving truck. I looked over and saw a flash of bright red hair go into this house, but didn’t really think much of it, so I continued walking until I got to the cemetery where I climbed a tree that I always do to think. I’d seen the bright red hair walk into the cemetery from my tree, and decided to watch him talk to whoever he was there talking to, but I didn’t eavesdrop, cause I wouldn’t do that, and I didn’t feel like taking my earbuds out. And now, well, here we are. We became friends and we hang out a lot at school.”
“That sounds fantastic!” Donna said back after my story. “He has told you about his preference right?”
“What?” I muttered quietly, not getting Donna’s hint, but thankfully Gee chimed in saving me.
“Uh yeah I have told him. Actually, Frank is, uh, he’s my boyfriend…” Gerard trailed off as if not knowing if his parents would like me being his boyfriend or not.
“Wonderful!” Donna said, getting up and walking around the table to give me a huge hug. I would have to say that that isn’t exactly what I was expecting, but It was fantastic overall. I didn’t really hug back, considering my fear that she was gonna pull out some potted plant at some point and beat me with it, which is why I hated being touched by anyone but Gerard, who I trusted. I think she noticed too, but was satisfied with my attempt at a hug, and pulled away quickly, noting my discomfort.
I think Gerard noticed too, because he reached under the tabling finding my knee and giving it a little squeeze of reassurance, which I hugely appreciated. At least Gerard knew why I was discomforted though by that action. I figured if Donna was as awesome as she seemed, I’d end up telling her pretty soon too, but for now it was me and Gerard sharing the secret.
Anyway, Mr. Way seemed surprised by the announcement Gerard made about me, but didn’t react bad, just started to smile. I wonder why both of them were being so enthusiastic. I mean, Mr. Way hasn’t really expressed much since I was here and here he is beaming like he won a couple million dollars. I decided to save that question for a later date for Gerard.
Either way, the rest of the dinner conversation ended up uneventful, so me and Gerard finished our plates of spaghetti and Gerard asked if I could stay the night. The Way’s said of course, if my mom was okay with it, and I could even use Mikey’s bed. I didn’t know a ‘Mikey’ but I hoped he was as accepting as everyone else, because that would be awesome.
After finding out that I could spend the night, Gerard dragged me up the stairs with a smirk on his face, and I knew automatically how the rest of this night was going to play out.

Notes

I'm sorry this took so long, but I'r surprised with how much I actually like this chapter. The next one is gonna be fun though. The more comments I get, the sooner I'll update the next chapter, considering the fact I won't be getting much sleep tonight anyway with how pissed I am at my mom...
