Tell Me I'm An Angel

Frank's P.O.V

I smiled as mum walked back to her seat. I'd told her the situation with Gerard and she dragged me round here straight away to sort it. I didn't know she was seeing Oli either. So I understood why Gerard was annoyed with the news. I didn't know mum's intention of taking on Gerard and Mikey either. I watched as Gerard led Mikey to sit down next to him as he sat next to me.
"What happens now?" Gerard asked, looking at mum.
Mum smiled and pulled out her phone. "I call a friend of mine who is a judge." She dialed then put the phone to her ear. After a few minute's she spoke. "Hello Martins. It's Linda." Pause. "Yeah, I'm sorry about the time. I need to ask if you know who is on the Way case." Pause. "I'm applying for joint guardianship with Mr Sykes and Mr Mckinnon. I am also repersenting the Way brother's." Pause. "I know what they've been accused of. But I have several upstanding pillars of the community who are willing to give both Mr Sykes and Mr Mckinnon character references. Also the eldest Way brother is going to be eighteen in two weeks. So he wishes to take on guardianship of his younger brother then. He has spent too much time having to protect his younger brother because the state were too blind to see what was happening. The poor boy took beating, really bad beatings, to protect his brother. So I don't see any reason why he shouldn't be granted guardianship. Now are you going to help me help this amazing young man protect his brother?"
My smile widened with pride. My mum is fucking awesome.
"Thank you." Pause. "SHE WHAT?"
Everyone's smile dropped.
"Okay. Right. We'll be there first thing in the morning. Thank you, Martin's. Bye." She hung up and stared at Gerard.
"What did she do now?" Gerard asked, quietly, hugging Mikey tighter like someone was going to try to take him away from him.
"She gave up." Mum said, smiling. "She dropped the case about an hour ago. Martins was already looking over the case. He saw the hospital reports. He read how you protected Mikey from your dad. So he had a meeting with the social services. He argued that they failed to protect you. They decided to take you both into care."
Mikey tensed up. Gerard shook his head. "They can't do that." He sobbed. "I...they'll split us up
I can't leave Mikey. I WON'T leave Mikey. Never."
I stood up and hugged them both, looking at mum.
"No, Gerard." Mum said. "You don't have to. Martins said that seem as they failed you both, they should cut through the red tape and..." She grinned. "....give you guardianship now. Seem as you showed everyone that you can protect Mikey better than anyone. Oli and Jeremy are not going to court. And Martin's has decided to sue the state for not protecting you. He said that they are already trying to offer a settlement. Martin's refuses to let you take less than ten million dollars. He said what you had to put up with deserves a lot more than that. But he doesn't want to push it."
Go mum. My jaw dropped open as I sat back down. I watched Gerard's reaction.
"Hear that, Mikey?" He said as he pulled back from his wide eyed brother. He smiled down at him. "We can stay together for ever now."
Mikey smiled. "No mum o...or dad?"
"No. Just me, you, Oli, Jeremy, Frank and Linda. Our own strange and wonderful family." He said.
"Mum a...and dad won't hurt you anymore?"
"No."
"We can do what we want?"
Gerard laughed. "Your still going to school."
Mikeys face dropped. "No fair."
"I'm not letting you get away with everything. You still have to go to school. You still have to do chores and you still have a curfew. But we get to stay together."
Mikey screeched and hugged Gerard. "I'm staying with you."
I smiled as they hugged for what seemed like forever, but was only like five minutes. Then Gerard pulled away and looked at mum in shock.
"Wait." He said. "TEN MILLION?".

Seems Gerard was more excited about being with his brother. I personally think they deserve more too. Love as always.xxx
