A Thunderstorm Into A Rainbow

Chapter Four - Oh My, Gee!

Over the next few days I stayed mainly to my office and didn't make much communication with anyone. I had also started drinking more than I used to, now going through around 5 cans of beer a day, easily. I had also bought myself more Xanex, and found it was working well to calm my nerves and keep me relaxed. Lyn-Z didn't seem too worried but I guessed she had put it down to depression over the break up. I guessed that's what it was. I just missed the band, that's all. I didn't miss anything else...

***

4 days after the mishap at Frankie's I was sat in the kitchen drinking a cup of coffee when I heard Lyn-Z talking the phone.
"Yeah I'm sure we could work something out... Just come over... It will be easier... Why what happened?... Hmmm... Well I'm not asking you to come and see him, I want you to come and talk to me.... It's stupid talking over the phone like its business.... Yes but I've known you for ages... Ok, I'll expect you within the hour then?... Ok, bye!", and I heard her hang up the phone.
Who was she talking to, and about what? Who was coming over later? I had a pretty good feeling I knew who it was...

***

About 40 minutes later I heard a knock at the front door. I waited about 30 seconds, but assumed Lyn-Z was still cleaning Bandit up from the painting mishap she had earlier ( Bandit had decided that painting the paper wasn't enough and painted some "make up" all over her face... The end result was she looked like a cross between a clown and Freddie Crooger... Not the prettiest thing I've ever sen but she thought she looked " bootifil"). I reluctantly dragged myself off the sofa where I had been laid, and answer the door. Even though I knew who it would be there, it was still a surprise to see Frank stood outside my door. A sudden rush of emotions swallowed me, none of them I had expected to come from seeing Frank, and half of them I didn't know what they was. He smiled nervously at me but I was lost for words, so I simply stepped back and let him in. His smile faltered and I realise I must look quite menacing. He stepped into the entrance hall and stood the idly twisting his hands together. Frank had been here countless times before and I wondered why he hadn't strolled in like he used to shouting, "honey I'm home", as a joke before settling into the sofa and turning over whatever anyone was watching at the time. I looked at him quizzically, and just shrugged before making my way back into the living room and turning my attention back to the tv. I heard a shuffle and looked round to see Frank standing awkwardly in the doorway into the living room. I could tell he wanted to say something but was afraid of how I might react.
"Lyn-Z is just cleaning Bandit up, then she'll be down to talk to you.", I said before ignoring him again.
"Oh", I heard him say before he walked forward and perched himself on the edge of the arm chair and stared at the tv.
"Ooh, British Top Gear, I love this program. It always make me jealous, I would love to get to drive all them cars!", Frank said enthusiastically, obviously intent on having a conversation with me. I grunted at him and saw him fidget in the corner of my eye and look down.
Just when I thought he was going to speak again, Lyn-Z walked into the room, half dragging an annoyed Bandit behind her.
"YEEEEY! Uncle Frankieeeeee!", Bandit squealed before launching herself onto Franks lap and rolling around giggling. Even though Frank wasn't her real uncle, he was always around as much as Mikey and when I told her that's what she had to call Mikey, she started calling Frank and Ray 'uncle' too. Frank tickled her before she sprung off him and bounded over to me.
"Gee just watch her while I talk to Frank for me please?", Lyn-Z said. I nodded and she beckoned Frank to follow her out the room.
I set Bandit up to watch "Shake It Up" before moving into the Drawing room so I could hear what they was talking about.
I could hear them in her office talking.
"Well, you know James Dewees don't you?" I heard Frank say.
"Yeah, of course, he used to some stuff for My Chem, didn't he?", Lyn-Z replied.
"Yeah, well me and him have decided to form a duet. We've called it Death Spells. We're already working on some new material, and we was hoping there would be a space for us to support you and MSI on the tour that's starting up next week? Only for the first seven dates, after that we want to work on some more stuff", I could hear Frank was nervous.
"Of course Frank! It would be lovely to have a familiar face on tour with us... Most of the newer bands are obnoxious little twats", I could Lyn-Z was excited, but me. I felt let down. Betrayed. They went to talk about the dates and set, so I made my way back into the living room where Bandit was dancing about trying to copy the two girls on the tv screen.
So... Frank had already started a new band? After 4 days he was already looking into ways to go on tour. I couldn't help but let a tear slide down my cheek. I wiped it away as soon as it emerged. No Gerard. Your being stupid. It's nothing to cry over. Franks moved on from My Chem now that its over. Why is that bothering me so much? I couldn't help but feel that there was another reason I was feeling like this. I popped open a beer and slid onto the sofa just as Lyn-Z walked in, saying Frank had left.

***

Frank kept coming over to talk to Lyn-Z about the tour and I saw James with him a few times. I smiled at James when I saw him. Why not? I hadn't argued with him. Frank always seemed uncomfortable in my house.
After a day out drawing I come home to find that Frank was round yet again. I kicked off my shoes and started to inspect the drawings I had done that day. I had one of a skyscraper that I had intertwined with another making the look like some sort of slide, one of a tree with a man up it. That was a funny story, the man had throne the ball for his dog and when the dog was unable to retrieve it from the branches of a small oak the dog barked until the man had got it down. The last drawing I had was a person that I had made up, taking different features from passers by. I was sat admiring my own work when I heard Lyn-Z and Frank talking in the hall.
" Yeah, so 2 days until the first day of the tour, we have sound check tomorrow, but its ok because it not far away, the address is on that paper. We just want to run through the sets, and check that everyone knows when they are due on stage", Lyn-Z was saying.
"Ok, thanks Lyn-Z, I really appreciate all your doing for me", Frank replied.
"It's fine Frankie, anything to help a friend. Is there anything else you wanna know before you go?", Lyn-Z asked.
I turned round and I could just see Frank through the gap in the door. He looked around a bit nervously, I suppose checking to see no one was there, after all they didn't know I was back.
"Ummm...", Frank said, "Is.. Uh.. Gee gonna be there tomorrow?"
He still called me 'Gee' even after the argument. I felt my stomach flip when he said it and I don't know why.
"Yeah, of course, he's bringing Bandit too, and he's coming to the first 3 shows I think", Lyn-Z seemed slightly baffled at his question but answered it all the same.
I saw Frank nod. He said goodbye before giving Lyn-Z a quick kiss on the cheek and hugging Bandit who had come from no where and attached her self to his leg.
He waved at them before exiting. I saw Lyn-Z move to come into the living room so I quickly shoved my headphone in so she didn't realise I had been listening to her conversation.
"Oh Gee, I didn't realise you was home. Have a good day?", she asked before sitting down and picking up my sketch book, flicking through the days drawings.
"As normal they're amazing", she said sweetly before kissing my cheek and going to put dinner on.
"It's the sound check tomorrow, and I need you to watch Bandit. You can bring her, she always enjoys dancing about and singing in the mics. Oh, and Frank will be there to", she shouted from the kitchen.
"I know, yeah I'll bring her and watch her", I said, "besides I love watching you perform"
"Awh thanks Gee, dinner won't be long either", she replied.
I had to go tomorrow. I felt like I needed to be there. For Lyn-z. Right? I needed to support my wife doing what she loved.
I could help but have a feeling that's not the reason I was inclined to go...

***

I got to the sound check at 4pm with Bandit dangling off my arm. Lyn-Z was already on the stage with MSI and were running throb their set. I could see Frank on the edge of the stage with James, going through some of their material.
After MSI were done, Frank got on stage with his guitar and started running through his set. I have to say, they was good. I stood there nodding my head along to their songs. They only did the beginning of each song.
I couldn't wait to watch his whole set tomorrow. I loved listening to him sing. Wait, I think that's 3 words too long... No Gerard! Why would you even think that... Your not speaking to him!
But however much he annoyed me I couldn't wait to watch him tomorrow.

Notes

Gerard fins out Frank has a new band. And that they are touring with Lyn-Z. He goes to the sound check to support his wife, but feels there is another reason he is inclined to go...
