The next morning I get up to find that Frank has already left. I check the time to see that I had five minutes to get ready, so I decide to skip having a shower and just throw on the clothes I had worn the previous day. I look at the timetable secretary woman gave me. First period was art.

I love art. Everyone says that I’m good at it, and to be honest, I have to agree. I want to be a comic book writer. I love comics too. I am always coming up with ideas for comics I could potentially write in the future. They’ll probably never be made though.

I make my way downstairs towards the art rooms and eventually find the room I am meant to be in. When I enter, I am 10 minutes late and the class has already started. I look around and see that Frank and Lindsey are sat together at the back, but I don’t know anyone else in the class. The teacher, Mr Fitzgerald, tells me to sit at the front next to this guy called Pete.

[You don’t need to read this paragraph, I just promised a lot of people that I’d put this in here. Everyone seems to ship Gee x Pete’s eyeliner, I definitely do.]

Pete’s eyeliner was exquisite. The way the black contrasted with his soft brown eyes was perfect. He must’ve spent hours on end practising and mastering the skill as it was the most amazing eyeliner I’d ever seen. I knew that my hands were most definitely too shaky to create such a masterpiece, I admired Pete. I need to get him to do mine at some point. I’ve fallen for Pete’s eyeliner.

“You must be the new kid that everyone talks about,” Pete says after a few minutes of awkward silence.

“Yeah, I guess so,” I reply. Why’ve people been talking about me?

“It must be hard sharing a dorm with that nutcase over there,” says Pete nodding in Frank’s direction.

“Nutcase?”

“Yeah, don’t you know? He’s fucking mad,” says Pete.

“I’m sure it’s not like tha-“

“GET BACK TO WORK. I WILL NOT TAKE YOUR SLACKING IN MY LESSON,” shouts Mr Fitzgerald.

I try to continue with my work for the rest of the lesson, but what Pete said still lingers at the back of my head.

Why is everyone so adamant that Frank is mad?

Oh wait.

Second lesson is maths, and I end up sat at the back behind Frank, next to someone called Bert. I don’t get much done in the lesson. Bert and I just sit talking and laughing, not paying much attention to the teacher’s many comments on our loudness.

About 20 minutes into the lesson, I see Bert write ‘emo fag’ on a page at the back of his book, rip it out and throw it at the back of Frank’s head. At first, Frank doesn’t pay attention to the note, but the person sat next to him, who I do not know the name of, picks it up and reads it. He turns it around and shows it to Frank. Frank’s face is emotionless. He grabs the note and shoves it in his pocket, then continues with his work wordlessly.

I turn to see Bert with his fist covering his mouth, to stifle his sniggers.

“Why did you do that?” I ask him, honestly shocked by the events that just occurred in front of me.

“Because he needs to know what people think of him,” Bert says.

“You don’t need to be an asshole about it.” I’m starting to raise my voice now.

“Calm down, dude,” I hear Frank say, his voice barely a whisper. His eyes are wide, pleading me to stop.

I sigh and bend down to write some questions out in my book, trying to ignore the urge to punch Bert in the face.

I guess that I fail though, because as soon as the lesson ends, I am somehow behind the school, beating the living shit out of Bert.

“Oh my god, what the fuck are you doing!?” I hear a familiar voice scream from behind me.

Fuck. My. Life.
