Kill This Venom From My Heart

"Well I was thinking..." I start, trailing off as I hear the light scratching of the puppies nails on the wooden floor in the hallway, the pace increasing until she rounds the corner and comes into the room, her tail starting to wag so hard that when she starts running over to us she can't run straight, making me laugh. I lean down with my arms held out and as soon as the puppy is close enough I scoop her up, sitting her in my lap and she jumps up against my chest, nosing at my neck and I laugh as I feel her whole face is wet, my neck damp when she hops back down. "You're a mess" I tell her, her tail wagging again as she curls up across my legs, Gerard's hand reaching out to gently stroke her back. "Mama?" I try, looking down at the little ball of fur in my lap and she looks up at me, slowly wagging her tail. "Mama" Gerard tries and the puppy turns her head to look over at him. "I think she likes it" he says and I smile as I reach down to scratch behind her ear, her tail picking up speed and after a few seconds she rolls herself over, stretching out across my lap so her head is resting on Gerard's leg and I start to rub her belly, her back legs twitching and making me laugh.

The rest of the night passes with Gerard and I having dinner before curling back up on the couch with Mama, Gerard grabbing her little teddy bear we bought at the pet store, Mama curled up in his lap as she chews on it before falling asleep, soft little snores escaping her and I smile to myself as I watch Gerard out of the corner of my eye, his gaze more focused on the dog rather than the tv, a huge smile on his face and I mentally kick myself for not getting a dog before, my heart fluttering and making me feel warm inside when I see him so happy. It starts to get late and when the show we are watching ends I stand up, stretching before turning back to offer my hand to Gerard and he gently picks Mama up, cradling her against his chest before taking my hand with his free hand, letting me pull him up and Mama's eyes open, her nose nuzzling into Gerard's neck as we leave the room, going upstairs to the bedroom. Once Gerard has Mama settled in her little dog bed that he bought her at the pet store in the corner of the room he comes over and strips down to his boxers, climbing into bed with me and once I turn the lamp off I shuffle over to wrap my arm around his waist, his back firmly pressed against my chest and I press a soft kiss to his hair before saying "Thank you for the dog baby, I really love her." "I'm glad, I really love seeing you happy." "I love seeing you happy too baby and I'm glad you have her to keep you company while I'm gone now."

A few hours later I wake up to a whimpering whine coming from beside the bed and when I reach out and turn the lamp on I see Mama jumping up against the side of the bed, her body too small to climb up and she's letting out small whines. "What's up Mama?" I ask softly as I sit up and turn to put my feet on the floor, leaning down to pick her up. Mama snuggles herself into my chest and noses at my neck, letting out another small contented noise before falling silent and I turn my head to look back over at Gerard, seeing he's still sleeping and I slowly stand up, taking Mama downstairs and into the kitchen where I put her down near her water bowl, waiting while she walks over and has a drink. Once she's done splashing water everywhere she comes running back over to me and I lead her to the backdoor, opening it and stepping outside and Mama runs off, exploring the darkened backyard while I sit on the step, watching her run around and explore in the moonlight hoping that she'll tire herself back out and pee before we go back in. Fifteen minutes later I'm ready to go back to bed and I call out to her, Mama coming running back over and I open the door, following her back inside and after I've locked the door again I turn, the dog gone but I hear the sound of water splashing and I smile as I walk back to the kitchen where I see her having another drink. I wait for her to finish before I scoop her up, turning the lights back off as I make my way back upstairs and I lay Mama back in her bed, giving her her teddy bear and she curls up and starts chewing on it, seeming content as I get back into bed. I curl up under the covers and close my eyes, almost asleep again when I hear a scratching and I peer over the side of the bed, seeing Mama jumped up on the side of the bed again in the moonlight coming through the window, her teddy hanging from her mouth as her tail wags and I sigh before reaching down to pat her head. Mama drops her teddy on the floor, scratching against the side of the bed as she yaps, trying desperately to get up on the bed with me and I sigh as I reach down and pick her up, putting her on the mattress beside me and she turns and glances back down at the floor, turning her head to look at me before turning it back again and I chuckle to myself as I reach down and grab her teddy, letting her take it from my hand and she wags her tail as she walks around in a circle a few times before collapsing onto the mattress beside me, contentedly chewing on her bear and I smile as I gently pat her, letting my eyes close again as I softly say "You better not pee in daddy's bed."
