Stay With Me

Memories are a bitch

It was Halloween, which meant it was also Frank's birthday. He had recently moved in with his boyfriend, Ryan. They had been together for three years. They met in college, and when Ryan started university, Frank moved away with him. It was difficult for Frank to leave his mother. Since his father walked out on them when Frank was only a kid younger than ten, he had always found it painfully difficult to ever leave his mum. But he had finally gained the confidence to (also with the help of his mum basically telling him to leave).
It was his nineteenth birthday, and Frank's mother had taken him out as a surprise. It was a great evening for Frank, he missed his mum so spending his birthday with her the best present ever. It was late when he came back, almost eleven. Frank pushed the door open to find the apartment in complete darkness. He switched the light on and saw a homemade banner hanging from the ceiling. The boy giggled to himself, Ryan was never the creative type, so just thinking about Ryan doing this for him made Frank more than happy. He heard a small giggle coming from the bedroom, Frank bit his lip nervously, wandering towards the closed door. He smirked when he heard another giggle, was that Ryan? He thought, he didn't even bother knocking on the door before he swung it open, stumbling in with a massive smile plastered across his face.
"Hey baby-" Frank beamed, but quickly stopped dead. He watched a person shuffle under the covers, next to Ryan. Ryan's eyes were huge as he rolled out the bed, pulling his clothes on.
"You're home earlier than I thought" he mumbled and practically ran towards Frank, grabbing him by the shoulders and swinging him round, gently guiding him out the bedroom. Frank still couldn't form any words to say, he was more than shocked.
"I-uhh, Happy Birthday, Frankie-" Ryan leant towards Frank, attempting to give his boyfriend a kiss. Frank lifted his hand and slapped Ryan round the face, making the older boy stumbled back.
"F-Frank.. I'm sorry, I'm so so sorry" Ryan's eyes were swimming with guilt, but Frank still couldn't bring himself to say anything. He stormed back into the bedroom, completely ignoring the stranger who was still lying in their bed. He pulled a suitcase out from under the bed and grabbed most of his clothes and belongings.
"Baby what are you doing?" Ryan stumbled into the room and watched his boyfriend pack the suitcase.
"I'm leaving" the boy stated bluntly. Not daring to look up at the older boy.
"C-Can we talk about this? Please, Frankie. I'm sorry" Ryan grabbed Frank's arm, stopping him from exiting the room.
"Get off me, Ryan! I never want to see you again!" he screamed, pulling his arm from Ryan's grip.
"I'll send Ray over tomorrow to get the rest of my stuff" he mumbled, slamming the front door behind him.
Frank walked through the crowded streets of New Jersey. It was raining lightly but you could still see the moon through the clouds. Frank pulled his suitcase through the massive crowds of zombies, vampires, and witches (etc). He walked all the way to Ray's apartment. By the time he was standing by the front door the rain had gotten heavier, Frank was thankful he had managed to avoid it.
"Hey man!" Ray beamed down at Frank, but his smile quickly fell when he saw Frank's tear stained face.
"Hey hey hey, what's wrong?" Ray pulled Frank into the warmth, enveloping Frank in a hug.
"R-Ryan ch-cheated" Frank sobbed into his friends chest, unable to stop himself from crying.
"Shh, shh" Ray's hand gently stroked through Frank's hair, a desperate attempt to calm him down.
That night, the night that was supposed to be the best night of the year for Frank, turned out to be the most damaging and painful night of Frank's life. He passed out on Ray's sofa after drinking almost all the beer they had. Brendon and Ray rented the apartment together (as friends), and had thrown a mini party for Halloween. So when Frank woke up the next morning he was surprised to see himself basically lying on top of a rather peaceful looking dark haired guy.
"Morning," Ray whispered to Frank, handing him a cup of coffee. He settled on the arm of the chair, next to Frank.
"How're you feeling?" he asked, gently rubbing Frank's shoulder.
"Wonderful" he answered bitterly.
"Sorry, stupid question" Ray frowned, mentally slapping himself.
"Hey Ray, could you do me a favour?" Frank's sounded tired and broken.
"Of course"
"C-Can you go by the apartment and get the rest of my stuff? I don't think I can face seeing Ryan" he mumbled, taking a small sip of his coffee.
"Yeah, sure, of course" Ray smiled weakly at Frank, who returned the sad smile.
"Thanks" Frank sniffed, trying not to let the emotions take over. He felt completely warn out. He suddenly jumped when the guy next to him woke up suddenly.
"Shit, fuck" he groaned and rubbed the back of his head.
"Oh, hey" he smirked at Ray and Frank.
"Awesome party man" he cheered, nodding at Ray.
"Bet you can't even remember it, Gee" Ray laughed at the guy.
"Whatever Toro" he chuckled, and stretched. Frank watched his shirt ride up a bit, showing off part of his stomach. His skin was pale, which only made his hair seem darker. He had deep hazel coloured eyes, and his lips seemed to be in a permanent smirk.
"Should probably head home" he groaned and pushed himself off the sofa.
"Cya man" he said, lightly slapping Ray's arm. He quickly nodded at Frank before leaving the apartment.
"Wh-Who's that?" Frank asked Ray, looking up at him with wide eyes.
"Gerard" Ray laughed lightly at Frank's innocent looking face.
"Whyyyyy?" Ray asked, raising an eyebrow at the younger boy.
"O-Oh, just wandering" the boy shrugged, setting the now empty mug on the coffee table.
"Right" the older boy smirked, not quite believing his friend.
Frank spent about a month sulking on the sofa, not once leaving the apartment. Ray tried several times to get Frank to go outside. But failed miserably every time. It was now almost Christmas, and Frank was lying on the sofa, watching The Grinch. It was his favourite Christmas movie, he watched it every Christmas with Ryan.
"That's it, Frank! You need to stop lying around feeling sorry for yourself! Go outside" Ray stood in front of Frank, blocking the television.
"Raaaay" the boy whined, pushing himself up so he was now sitting up straight. Ray grabbed his wrist and dragged him from the sofa and to the front door.
"C'mon, we're going out" Ray swung the door open, pushing Frank out and locking the door before he could go back in.
"We're meeting Gerard in about ten minutes, hurry up, he really wants to meet you" Ray dragged Frank into the lift.
"Me? He wants to meet me?" Frank was surprised that anyone would want to meet him.
"Yes, you, Frank. Frank Iero. He wants to meet you, jeez" Ray rolled his eyes at Frank's stupidness.
"Wh-Why?" Frank stuttered, feeling confused.
"Because he thinks you're cute" Ray shrugged as the doors opened.
"You're gunna be freezing" Ray laughed as they wandered to the front doors of the apartment building. Frank looked outside to find it was snowing, hard. Everything was under at least a foot of snow. There was also a slight breeze, which Frank guessed was just as cold as the snow. He then looked down at his clothing. He had sneakers and jeans on, with a t-shirt.
"I'm going to freeze to death! Raaaay!" Frank whined, trying desperately to get out of Ray's grip. But it was too late, he was yanked out into the freezing air. It hit his skin like a million ice cubes were running through his body.
"Fuck!" he practically screamed and wrapped his arms round himself. But it was hopeless.
"Man up, Iero" Ray chuckled as Frank's clutched to his friends arm, shivering frantically. They finally wandered into an extremely warm coffee shop and hey, Gerard was sitting at a table.
"Hey man" Gerard said, quickly turning his attention to the shivering mess that was Frank.
"Oh boy you look cold" he said, laughing lightly as he wrapped his parka round Frank's shoulders.
"Th-Th-Thanks" he stuttered, gripping onto the warm material.
That was the first day he properly met Gerard. Frank didn't get too involved in the conversation, mostly because he was too mesmerised by Gerard. The way he spoke through the corner of his mouth, his adorable giggle, the way his parka smelt like smoke and coffee. The perfect way his hair fell over his face slightly, the way his eyes lit up when he spoke about art or something like that. Frank felt his heart beat twice as fast when the boys hazel eyes suddenly met Frank's gaze.
"You're being rather quiet there, Frank. Everything alright?" Frank sighed contently at the sound of Gerard saying his name.
"Hm, what? Uh, yeah" he spoke slowly. Still in a trance as Gerard giggled lightly.
"Good.." his eyes kept contact with Frank's for few more seconds.
After that day Frank couldn't get the thought of Gerard out his head. Whenever he closed his eyes all he could see was Gerard's beautiful eyes staring at him. Gosh he was one beautiful human, Frank thought.
"Hey man, d'you mind if Gerard spends Christmas with us?" Ray asked. It was a few days till Christmas and Frank's mother had gone away with some bloke she had been seeing, so Frank was spending Christmas with his friends.
"Oh uh, yeah. I mean no, I mean, that sounds great" Frank stuttered, he still could barely talk whenever Gerard was mention.
"Great" Ray laughed and lifted the phone back to his ear.
"Yeah he says he can't wait" Ray lied, laughing silently at Frank's face.
"Great, cya then" Ray hung up the phone and set it down on the coffee table.
"You know, Gerard loves The Grinch, just saying" the older boy mentioned as he sat next to Frank on the sofa.
"Hmm, really?" the younger boy tried to sound half interested when really, he just wanted to jump around the apartment like a puppy.
"Mmm, yeah. Maybe you two could watch it together...alone" Ray smirked, watching the television. Though he could still see a slight blush crossing Frank's cheeks.
"Hm, yeah, maybe" Frank mumbled, resting his head on Ray's shoulder.
It would have been an understatement to say Frank was excited to see Gerard.
