Black Velvet

Chapter Fifteen

Numb wasn't the word for the emotion I was feeling. I was blindingly angry, confused. Part of me wanted to leave school, go back home and tell Deb every detail so she could give me her take on where to go next. I chewed on my nails, still in the same spot I had previously been. I knew I needed to find Kyle, but first I need to talk to Mr. Way.

I turned on my heel and headed back up the steps, through the front door and into the hallway. The heat of the building hit me quickly and even under the thick layer of foundation my cheeks had turned a dark shade of pink. Without hesitating or knocking I stormed back into Mr. Way's classroom. He was in the same position, behind his desk with his face deep into the book he had been reading. His head shot up when I entered and he suddenly owned a classic deer in the headlights expression.

"Why did you tell Alex about Kyle?" I blurted out, a tear falling from eye which I wiped away quickly. He looked stunned and then swiftly incredibly guilty.

"Amelia you don't understand-"

"No you don't understand!" I almost yelled, "I thought we were friends!" I tried to stop my voice from cracking but failed miserably.

"I didn't mean to tell Alex, I went to tell Kyle to not act so inappropriately on school grounds but I didn't realise Alex could hear, I don't really know why I told her," he explained pathetically. My heart thumped under my school blouse, each word he spoke making me more and more frustrated.

"I know why you told her," I spat out bravely, narrowing my eyes at him. He looked at me shiftily, swinging his legs down from his desk and standing.

"And what would that be?" he asked, trying to sound strong but his facial expression told a different story.

"The other night in the park," I ground out, attempting to stare him out.

"Nothing happened the other night," he said, his eyes shifting from right to left.

"You're as bad as the girls in this school, you're no different," I spat, not able to stop a few more stray tears rolling down my cheeks. I wiped them away again quickly.

"You're just upset because you've had a fight with your friend, once you calm down you'll realise I did what I did because it was the right thing to do," he said in a patronising tone, making me angrier.

"This isn't because of Alex, this is because of you, you make me feel-" I stopped, my words twisting, "You make me feel..." I shook my head, my teeth grinding in my mouth. Mr. Way's eyebrows were raising so high they nearly disappeared into his hairline, "Stop looking at me like I'm a fucking child!" I exclaimed, "You are exactly like Alex, only worse because at least I know what to expect from Alex!" I added, taking steps forwards towards him. His expression barely changed as I neared him, I was so close I could smell the coffee on his breath, feel the heat from his body.

"I'm doing the right thing for both of us, now please go to your next class," he asked, his tone stern but I could see his heart beat moving quickly through his white shirt.
I looked him up and down slowly, moving an inch closer to him when he tried to back up, bumping into the side of his desk. He took a shaking breath in as I dropped my backpack to the floor.

"Am I making you feel uncomfortable?" I asked in a low whisper that almost sounded like a hiss.

"You're not making me feel anything. I will take you out of this class, I will give you detention-"

"No you won't," I spat, "You won't because you know exactly what happened the other night," I added, a small smirk coming to my lips as I saw him hurriedly search my eyes, trying to gain control of the situation again.

"Okay, okay!" he murmured awkwardly, looking down, his black hair tickling my forehead, "You've clearly got very confused about the other night. I had too much to drink, I'm sorry for giving you mixed signals," he rambled, pulling himself away from me, leaning as far back as possible. I was the one to raise my eyebrows at him this time, moving slightly closer to him again, "I heard what you said about me on the field with Alex, I heard you tell those girls you wanted to be with me... like that," he admitted in a panic stricken way, his eyes big and concerned.

"You heard me say I wanted to fuck you?" I asked, lowering my voice. He nodded hesitantly, swallowing and shuffling in his spot, "Do you want to fuck me?" I then questioned, his eyes widened further and his mouth opened.

"N-no, you're too young," he replied in a stuttered, dazed tone.

I stared at him a moment longer before feeling something grow hard against my thigh. I cast my eyes downwards and had to suppress the shock that flew through my system. I felt so powerful, so proud. I looked back up at Mr. Way, his expression had changed to pure embarrassment, his cheeks bright red, his face tight.

"You're a bad liar," I smirked, pushing myself up against him.

"Get out of my classroom now," He hissed. The smirk was still attached to my face and I took a step back smartly. I turned on my heel and started to walk out of the room, glancing over my shoulder to see him turned with his back towards the door, collapsed against his desk.

I strode across the field and into the courtyard. For the first time in a while I felt confident and powerful. I didn't want to feel bad or confused anymore. Without considering it I walked to the lunch hall and clocked Alex, Marnie, Taylor and Georgina all sat around their lunch table. I took a deep breath and strolled over towards them, ignoring Kyle who was sat a few tables away, trying to get my attention by calling my name.

"Alex," I stated, tapping her on the shoulder. She looked over her a shoulder, a grimace on her face.

"Did you not hear what I said earlier? Don't speak to me unless you've spoken to Kyle," she told me, eyes narrowed, lips pursed. Marnie, Taylor and Georgina all shared worried looks with each other. I was worried as well, on the inside, but my run in with Mr. Way had given me a boost in confidence.
"I heard what you said earlier Alex. I just don't think you heard me. I didn't go after Kyle and he kissed me. He's not your property and neither am I," I explained strongly, trying to not falter in what I was saying.

"Wow," Alex snarled, "I would stop if I were you Mia, I will crush you remember," she reminded me. I breathed in worriedly, "Marnie go and get me a coffee, this conversation is boring me," Alex ordered, her gaze turning to Marnie.

"Marnie, don't," I then said defiantly, "You don't need to do anything for her."

"Go," Alex ordered again, narrowing her eyes at me even though she was directing her order at Marnie.

Marnie stood up slowly and worriedly, collecting her backpack from the floor before shooting me a nervous look. I stared at her and shook my head when she started to walk away. Alex grinned widely but it fell quickly when Marnie came and stood by me, her arm linking through mine.

"I don't want to do stuff for you Alex," Marnie mumbled timidly, "And Mia wouldn't do all the stuff you're saying she's doing. I don't think you're being very nice," she said bravely, even though she looked nervous.

"Marnie, you can't be serious, we're friends we do things for each other!" Alex said hurriedly, "Okay fine maybe I've been a little harder on you than I thought," she said worriedly when both Georgina and Taylor got up hastily to stand behind Marnie. I took a few steps forward towards Alex, leaning down.

"You taught me a lot Alex, so don't fuck with me," I hissed in her ear.
