From Russia With Love

Chapter Forty-nine – Vremya dlya shou

It was later in the week when Dominika stood in front of her dresser, struggling with the zipper on the long garment that hugged her figure in the most complementary of ways, deep purple and flowing. She looked back to her reflection again, eyebrow raised as she questioned her dress choice for perhaps the tenth time that afternoon. Dominika’s thoughts drifted longingly back to her days in Russia when her clothing had mostly been chosen for her and there had always been her loving Mother or sister there to help her with trivial female things like zippers.

Just as her mind began to wander back into the now all–too–familiar dark places, Gerard appeared in her doorway, perfectly dressed in a handsome black suit with not a hair out of place.

“Need a hand, baby?” he asked, the picture of ease as he leant against the door frame.

Dominika turned to look at him and couldn’t help the smile that overtook her face as she took in his appearance.

“Don’t you clean up well?” she chirped, struggling to hold the sides of her dress together. He brushed his shoulder off and winked at her before he closed the distance between them, hands lingering on her shoulders as he silently turned her to face the mirror once more.

“Speak for yourself” he replied, taking the zip in his fingers and pulling it up to the base of her neck slowly. Gerard’s eyes found hers in their reflection, smoldering, and he left the zipper to thread his arm around her waist, the dense high-quality fabric of his suit stiff against the soft material of her dress.

“I have to admit” he whispered “it’s a lot more fun taking your clothes off than helping you put them on”

Dominika flushed crimson and looked down at her feet, still bare in contrast to the beautiful dress.

“I don’t know if I can let you out like this” he breathed, ticking her neck through her hair as his lips lingered close to her skin, every hair on her body standing on end. His long fingers traced up her sides, making the blood rush beneath her skin.

“I–I can put a jacket on” Dominika stammered, breathless.

Gerard laughed softly, the sound rumbling deep through his chest against her back as they stood together, still facing the mirror.

“That won’t be necessary. I just won’t let you out of my sight. Simple”

He smiled even wider then, clearly satisfied with his solution.

Just as Dominika opened her mouth to bait him further, a small knock came at the door, jolting them both back to reality.

“Miss Luhzkov?” said a soft female voice, slightly muffled behind the door “The driver is here to collect yourself and Corporal Way. Are you ready? Should I ask him to wait?”

“No, no” Dominika called back, casting a knowing look at Gerard in the mirror “We’re ready. We’ll be down in a minute”

As soft footsteps padded away down the hall Gerard caught Dominika’s eyes again in their reflection.
“It’s showtime, kid”

Notes

Gah almost two weeks without an update! Sorry guys, long story short: my very expensive and only just over a year old Alienware laptop that I use for all my writing decided to fry itself on me which had many chapters in advance written on it so I basically had to set my ipad up as a substitute writing station while the laptop is being repaired. So I have re-written and posted this chapter for you using my ipad and tiny external keyboard, but I'm managing! Thanks for reading guys and more regular chapters again now I promise <3 :) xx
