From Russia With Love

Chapter Thirteen - Potseluy menya

Gerard took a long swig from the bottle and swallowed it in one go, passing the bottle back to Dominika. She took a smaller sip, and enjoyed the burning feeling of the clear liquid as it slipped down her throat. She was feeling warm and happy now thanks to the alcohol, and she sat with her knees pulled up to her chest. The room started to look a little fuzzy around the edges and she put her hand to her head.

“Feeling it now, kid?”

“You’re a bad influence” she replied. He grinned and shrugged his shoulders.

“Hey, one of my favorite things about Russia is the legal drinking age, you know its twenty-one in the states”

“Really? That’s weird”

“Doesn't slow them down much, though” he added.

She twirled the bottle around in her hands thoughtfully for a moment before she gave it back to him. He removed the cap and downed another mouthful.

“What’s it like there, Gerard?” she asked, eyes wide with wonder. He passed the bottle back to her again.

“What? The states?”

“Yes”

“Well I’m guessing they’ll send you to Washington state, that’s where the head of military operations base is, the president and all the officials and everything, they’ll want to have you close by so they can keep an eye on you” he said “it’s also where I’m from, so you’ll get to have the full Gerard Way experience”

She giggled and opened the bottle, taking a longer swig from the bottle this time. The heat rose straight from her stomach to her head and she tossed her head back, laughing louder this time.

“What’s so funny, kid? Am I gonna have to cut you off?” he teased.

“I think I’m a little drunk, Gerard” she said with a hiccup. He pressed his lips together in a line, trying to hold back the smile that threatened to take over his face.

“Alright, no more for you then” he replied, plucking the bottle from her hands and placing it on the floor next to him. She pushed her bottom lip out.

“Oh come on, one more sip, like you s-said, it’s not illegal”

He rolled his eyes and passed it back to her, watching carefully as she tipped the bottle and swallowed one last mouthful. She placed it back on the concrete.

“I’m going to miss you” she said suddenly “when you’re over here and I’m over there, I mean”

“I’ll miss you too, kid, but I’ll be back before you know it and you’ll get sick of me again”

“I don’t think I could ever get s-sick of you, Gee, you’re all I’ve got left now” her voice cracked, the conversation taking a sudden serious turn. She looked down at her arms wrapped around her knees.

“Gee?” he asked softly.

She shrugged “I just thought of it, trying it on for s-size”

“Suits me” he said “you’re funny kid, a week ago you couldn't stand me, and tonight you’re practically saying you can’t live without me”

“I never said that, I just don’t know how to act around you Gerard, or I thought you thought I was just a kid, and mainly, I’m shy! It’s a European thing, it’s pretty much in my genetic makeup!”

“Calm down, at least you’re speaking to the one person that can actually follow that train of thought” he laughed.

Her cheeks flushed even pinker, partially the alcohol and partially the embarrassment of her inhibitions being lifted, finally being able to say the things she had been thinking but had been unable to put into words.

“I know you’re shy, and uncertain” he said softly, reaching out to tuck a stray hair behind her ear “but you shouldn't be scared of me, I know you, and you know me, it doesn't have to be scary”

“Kiss me, Gerard” she said suddenly. He looked at her with a shocked expression and then set his lips in a hard line.

“No”

“What? Why not?!”

“You’re drunk Domi, you probably won’t even remember this conversation in the morning, I’d like you to be able to remember our first kiss”

“I’m only a little tipsy!” she argued, crestfallen. He smiled, shaking his head.

“Not like this”

She exhaled loudly in frustration and turned away from him a little, feeling rejected. She understood his logic in principal, well kind of in her inebriated state, but she couldn't help but feel annoyed. Like he hadn't known this would happen.

“Lie down” he ordered. She turned back to face him with her eyebrow raised.

“What?”

“Lie down, I’ll hold you. Sleep it off, Domi”

She complied, removing her cardigan and spreading it on the concrete below her. The warmth coursing through her body from the vodka and Gerard’s words were enough to spare her from the cold for tonight. He shuffled down beside her and wrapped his arms around her softly, pulling her closer against him. She closed her eyes and sighed, feeling his heart drum against her back.

“This is nice” she whispered.

“Sleep time for the drunk now” he replied. She giggled in the dark and the sound made his heart swell.
