Developing Wings on the Way Down

Part Five; A Sudden Abundance of Risk and Danger

Frank ended up having to lay face down in the back seat of the car to even slightly fit. He far from enjoyed it and let out a loud noise every time the car turned or went over a bump. This was only the second problem of the morning. First, they had to get frank dressed. He had been wearing ripped sagging dirty jeans for the last day and Ray did not like things dirty. Gerard already feared his reaction.. They settled with washing him off with a cloth so he didn't smell and giving him a pair of Mikey's skinny jeans to wear. They were a little big, but it sufficed. Now Gerard was all but speeding to work after the long departure. He wondered how Ray was dealing with Frank at the moment but tried not to worry. He felt culpable for leaving him there but what else was he to do? Take the poor guy with him to work? Not in a million years., especially with Gerard's boss. He shook his head as he entered the parking lot, trying to convince himself that dearest Frank would be fine for the five hours he was there.

Meanwhile, at Ray's apartment, Frank was perched on a bar stool in front of the TV with his second jar of cheese balls. Frank had explored the whole flat and was now content with the soap opera channel while Ray did his collage work at the table. He had attempted to talk to Frank and only succeeded once. He had first attempted a conversation about where he had come from. That had all but offended the reaper. The second attempt was on how much he knew about the world. Attempt ignored. The third attempt was the successful one. Gerard. Ray had asked what it was like to live with Gerard, and that had set frank off for about five minutes. He talked about being curious about the boy, then about how kind he had been, then how gentle, then said something about his face, but Ray hadn't heard that. He kept that part to himself mostly, staring at the screen and letting himself zone out without officiating the end of the conversation. Up until now, they had each kept to themselves, Ray working and Frank watching the screen give him a bad example on the world. But one thing changed that. Ray stood, done with his work and walked to his room, assured that Frank did not need much watching. He sat on the edge of a chair and strummed chords on his favorite guitar. In the next room, Frank's ears perked. The foreign sound had intrigued him. He slowly climbed from the stool and walked to the doorway, peeking around to see the source. Ray looked up to see him there and gave him a small unsure smile before resuming. The next time he looked up, Frank was gone from the doorway. He assumed that he had not kept interest and started into the first verse of Black Balloon by The Goo Goo Dolls. he got lost in the music and focusing on the song and didn't notice Frank pull his stool into the centre of the room to watch him. Frank was studying the other's fingers intently and smiling to himself. He did not understand why, but the sounds made a smile creep upon his face. Ray looked up and realized he was being watched, seeing Frank's smile and returning it.
"How?" Frank asked, reaching out and touching the top of a fret.
"How? How what? Oh! How do I play?" Ray asked, strumming once. Frank nodded and smiled wider. Ray got up and grabbed another acoustic from his closet, putting it across Frank's lap and pulling the younger man's hand to the fret board and positioning his fingers. He then walked back to his seat in front of him and positioned his fingers the same way.
"Okay. This is the simple part, strumming." he began.

A knock on the door interrupted the now three hour lesson. Ray stood, giving an apologetic look to Frank and walking out to the main room, carelessly opening the door without a wayward thought. His neighbor, Bob, came storming in angry about something. It was not unusual, the man had anger issues. He stopped dead in his tracks when he saw Frank and let out a startled yelp before throwing the nearest thing to him in defence. The glass struck the corner next to Frank and a glass shard cut his chest. All of the ignored instinct to harm in Frank unleashed it's self from it's pent up state and Ray heard one sentence before seeing a blur.
"Nessuno mi fa male"

Ray as almost knocked over by the wind of Frank pouncing Bob and clawing at him fiercely. Ray let out a yell and reached for Frank's leg, pulling hard on it and sending them both backwards onto the ground . Frank clawed at the ground and struggled to luge again at the blonde boy on the floor in shock. Ray kept a tight hold of his led as Bob stared horrified. The angry look that had petrified the brothers only a night before was living on Frank's face as he growled. Ray finally got to his feet grabbing the demon's arm and hauling him up, down the hall and to his room, where he puched him through the doorway and slammed the door. When he walked back to Bob, he saw the man scrambling to his feet.
"Bob I can-"
"Save it!" Bob barked, trying to escape
"Bob!" Ray squirmed around the other man and slammed the door.
"You can not tell anyone." he began.

In the other room, Frank paced the perimeter, confused and hurt. He did not remember the feeling of pain well.. why was he feeling it now? He sat on his stool and stared at the floor until a voice echoed within his head like a seven eleven intercom.

Tisk tisk my child. Come back home, won't you? it asked. Frank knew the voice. It was of his master. All demon's master.. he shook his head to the question. Shame.. it growled back the longer you are up there, the weaker you will be. No more invincibility for you Abdiel.. or should I call you Frank, like they do? the voice mocked. Frank stayed silent. Speak my son. it barked. Frank did not comply. Fine. i will leave you alone for now. But tell me boy. How will you control your instinct? Tis your weakness is it not? You are trained to destruct and hurt.. don't forget kill... the voiced echoed off into a cheshire laugh and descended as Ray entered the room, adverting his attention.

"Frank?" he asked, cautious. Frank turned to face him, ashamed.
