Developing Wings on the Way Down

Part Twenty-Four: Come Toe To Toe Just in Time

Frank happily bustled along behind Gerard, a box of movies and CD's in his arms. It was exactly three in the morning, the only time acceptable to let a winged demon roam a parking garage. The venture for an apartment had taken a total of twelve days, and a weeks worth of paper work. Gerard's parents were anything but happy that he had decided to take Frank along. They went on and on about how he wasn't ready to bear that responsibility and that he didn't understand what he was getting into. They were right, he knew he didn't.

"'Rard?" Gerard shook his head, clearing the demanding thoughts prying for his attention.
"Yeah?" he asked, pushing the door to the elevator hall open with his backside. He turned just in time to see Frank yawn, his mouth forming a loose 'O' and his body shuddering with a days worth of exhaustion.
"Is that supposed to mean it's time to call it a night?" the Way asked, laughing a little. Frank eagerly nodded as they entered the elevator. Frank sat his box down, then sat by it, pushing his wings this way and that until he could sit comfortably.
"Can I push the button now?" Gerard asked, finger hovering on the 13th floor. The demon nodded, securing his hand around the metal grip that lined the small room. He grimaced when the elevator took off. Gerard couldn't blame him, elevators are nauseating. It was no surprise to see Frank bolt through the door the second it showed a sign of opening, taking off down the hall as fast as his wings' poor aerodynamics would let him. He charged into the unlocked apartment and chucked his bx onto the couch before crossing his arms and staring at Gerard irritably as he slowly ambled behind him.
"I know, I know. That's the last trip tonight." he rolled his eyes, setting his own box on a counter before pausing. ".. or not. Frankie I forgot to lock the car."
"'RAAAARD!" Frank whined, staring anxiously from the door and back to the older way.
"You dont have to come, you can even stay here if you want."

Frank let out another low whine, not comfortable with either of them being alone in such a new place. He sighed and let his head hang, making it obvious that he was not happy.

Frank sat down yet again on the floor of the elevator, white-knuckle grip on the support bar as his stomach churned. Gerard owed him. As the elevator began it's decent, an uneasy feeling spilled into the air. The two boys looked to each other at the same time, knowing the atmosphere was mutual. Suddenly, the one overhead light in the shaft began to waver, before letting darkness surround the two. A loud scrunch of metal made the two cover their ears and cower as the mechanisms screamed to a stop, one side of the box dropping far lower than the other, making the floor shift. Gerard slid into Frank's hip as they cried out. The lights strobed in a sickening blur.
"Close your eyes!" Gerard demanded, kneeling by the demon and wrapping his arms around him, waiting for the fall. He had always heard you were supposed to go limp in any crashing circumstance, so he tried. The eleven on lit up on the floor tracker above the door. Gerard knew there was no way to survive that fall. His eyes squeased shut at the catastrophic crunch of metal surrounded them. His mind demanded he scream for help but a knot held his throat closed. He felt helpless as Frank trembled in his arms.

"Abdel?" a voice came almost tauntingly. It echoed and vibrated and Gerard almost thought it was all in his head until a low growl came from beneath him. Frank was on his feet faster than a bullet as his wings snapped in front of the mortal, blocking his vision and making a 'thwack' when they hit the walls of the elevator. A low laugh filled the space and the creature shifted uneasily.
"Frank?" Gerard whimpered, hearing only a growl in response. It was so baritone, so inhuman. If it hadn't been for the giant extremities hanging from Frank's shoulders, Gerard would have forgotten he was immortal.

"Lower your wings, Abdel. I want to see your toy." the voice was rough and callous, and Gerard almost hoped e would deny the command. Nonetheless, the black plumage lowered and the mortal was greeted by a tall figure, it's face holding two hollow pits where you would assume eyes would be. A smirk took over the bottom of the countenance.
"Hello, friend." It voiced, head nodding.
"Who are you?" Gerard demanded.
"Well.. who am I?" the figure rippled and cleared into the form of an elderly man. "I am your weak." the form slipped to a large man with bloody hands. "I am your wicked." the shuddering form appeared as a burlesque woman, ".. I am your sinful temptation... I know you've heard of me, Gerard, you even tried to contact me in your adolescence," a laugh "that was a show... But i came, didn't I? Was my arrival late? I am Baphomet. "

Frank snorted in irritation. "What do you want?" he demanded, covering Gerard with his back.
"Oh, was this a bad time to visit?" the devil smiled, pacing the space. " I missed my little trooper."
Frank spat in his direction, snarling and bracing his hands on either wall to close off the space between the devil and the mortal. The figure whipped around to face him.
"Do you dare disrespect me? I pulled you from the flames you bastard!" A milky, white hand raised almost to strike him, but instead landed on the white collar of his shirt. "You could be burning in a sulfuric void I employed you. I saved you." he growled, his nose curling.
"Fuck. You." the demon purred, head cocking to the side.
"Abdel, Abel.... Abdel. Attitude last time, attitude now. What should I do with you?"
