Give Me Blood

V

Gerard was looking between Frank and Bert, confusion evident on his face. Bert was also at a loss for an explanation. Frank's features were defined by suspicion and sublimal rage. Touring with The Used wasn't a problem until now, they were getting along just fine. That's because they had never been close to begin with, though. But regarding Gerard, Bert had never been good news. They used to be really close friends but that was long ago, back when Gerard was still drinking and doing drugs. They were both rarely sober during this time.
Nowadays, Bert was clean, too, but when Gerard had first gotten clean and didn't want to go waste his life with Bert anymore, he didn't take it very well. They had a row of massive arguments. Everybody except Gerard could see that Bert was in love with him and he couldn't accept the new life he had chosen. But he also couldn't go through detox himself, so they broke up any contact between them. Frank knew how mad Bert had been and he also knew that the man who claimed would never even touch drugs ever again wasn't as sober all the time as he made everyone believe. Frank had seen it with his own eyes, but chosen not to say anything about it. It wasn't his problem, after all. But he had also seen the way Gerard was back then and he had hated to have to watch him suffer like that. He didn't trust Bert around Gerard. He couldn't risk them getting close again, so that Bert would drag Gerard down with him again. True, Gee had been clean for quite some time now, and consistently so, but Bert could be pretty persuasive if he wanted to be and Frank was sure that Gerard wasn't safe to be left alone with him. Another part of Frank believed that Bert still had feelings for Gerard and he gave up lying to himself about this years ago, he was jealous. Yes, Frank was in love with his friend and former band mate, Gerard Way. He had known this for quite some time now, but had never acted upon it. Gerard didn't love him back, he wouldn't ever. And that was okay with Frank, he couldn't blame him. This was not the kind of love that wanted Gerard all to itself and would lead Frank to depression and suicide. He was not the kind of guy. Frank wasn't overly possessive, he would contently watch Gerard from a safe distance, with longing, sure, but never demanding.
The two other men were still looking at him, both with confused expressions. 'You okay?', Gerard asked him, breaking the silence, worry evident in his voice. Frank realized that he had been staring like he was utterly crazy.
'Yeah. Fine', he managed to get out, before grabbing Gerard by the wrist and practically dragging him away, stomping down the stairs of the stage and towards the bus they had occupied before the concert. They left a very confused and slightly angry Bert behind. Gerard was even more confused, though, and demanded Frank to stop and tell him what's wrong. He ignored him and kept walking, so Gerard just stopped, throwing Frank back slightly, who sent him a glare in return. When he saw Gerard's questioning look, his expresssion softened. 'Come on, Gee. Let's talk about this on the bus'.
He took his hand, this time gently, still leading the way but considerably slower. Once they were on the bus, they sat down on the very same couch, the same way they had before the show. The mood however, was a completely different one. Gerard was still very puzzled as to what had just gone on and Frank really didn't want to have to explain, but he knew that he needed to. As he was staring into space, deep in thought of how he would voice his concern, Gerard cleared his throat. He looked up, their eyes meeting, holding each other's gazes for a minute.
Finally, Frank let out a sigh. 'I'm worried about you', he said.
Gerard gave him a surprised look 'Me? Why?'
'Because Bert is not good for you', Frank stated. 'Why not?', Gerard asked 'he's clean and he won't do me any harm'.
'He's not.', Frank said, shaking his head 'I've seen him'.
This shocked Gerard. He didn't approve of that, they were old friends, after all. But he wouldn't ever stoop so low again, himself.
'It doesn't matter, we were just watching the show together', he told Frank. 'I just don't want him to drag you into this again', Frank admitted, his voice now laced with obvious worry 'I care about you, Gerard, and it's been hell watching you throw yourself away. Also, I've only just gotten you back'. He smiled at the end and for some reason, Gerard melted at that. 'I will never do it again. I promise'.

Notes

Dialogue is such an annoying, albeit necessary thing, ugh.
look, I made it kinda cheesy. That was the plan all along, though, so whatever.
