Chapter 1

"Gerard Arthur Way! Get down here or you're going to be late for orientation!" I groan at the thought of going to school. I throw on a black t-shirt and tight blue skinny jeans. On my way out, I squeeze on my converse and hop into my mom's black Crown Victoria, trying to get my hair under submission. After a few minutes of raking it down with my fingers, I sigh and tell myself it's the best it's going to get. "Are you excited for your first day at boarding school, honey?" I roll my eyes at my mom and look out the window. "Thrilled." I sarcastically answer her. She takes the hint and drives out of the driveway, on our way to hell.
Once we arrive at the almost brand new school, I read the name: Carson High's Boarding School. It was an all guy school, and I didn't know how I felt about being surrounded by testosterone filled teenagers all day, everyday. My mom said that I'd have to share a dorm with someone, considering the school is overly packed anyways. I looked at the dude's folder that the school mailed me, and he seemed decent. He got nice grades and is apart of the school's music club. I didn't get a picture though, so I'm hopeful he's attractive.
As I step out of the car, I already feel anxious. This place has bad vibes, and I already don't like it. "C'mon Gerard, give it a chance. You might like it," my mom said to me as she rounded the car to plant her arm around my waist. "Alright, mom. I'll try it." I put out the cigarette I was smoking on the way over and grabbed my bags out of the back of the car. Mom helps and grabs a few and we carry them to my room, Dorm 149. The door was cracked a little, so I pushed it slightly and saw that the room was empty, but one of the beds was already made by whoever the person I was rooming with. I walked in and placed my bags on the bed on the right, glad that it wasn't a bunk bed and we'd be sleeping on opposite sides of the room. I look at the built-in desk on the right of my bed, and there's a note laying on top of it. 'Hey roomie! Went to get something good to eat. I'll see you when I get back.' The name signed on the bottom read Frank. I look over and see my mom already making my bed for me, so I walk to my bathroom. It had two sinks, one already set up by Frank, his toothbrush laying beside the sink along with a razor and some shaving cream. We had one shower, that I assumed we had to share, and a toilet that sat in the corner.
I walked back in the room and shoved my hands in my pockets, my mom already working on getting my jeans hung up in my closet. I decided to help her, and started to fold and put away my pajamas into drawers. Once we were both finished after 30 minutes, her finishing up my comic book collection on the bookshelf and me putting away the last of my socks into a drawer, my mom started to silently whimper. I noticed tears running down her cheeks, causing her make up to run. "Aw mom, don't cry. I'll be back for holidays and stuff." This seemed to make her cry even more, so I hugged her and pulled her close to my chest, being at least a head taller than her. "I'm going to miss you, Gerard." "I'll miss you too, mom." She pulled away and wiped her eyes, becoming more sophisticated in a matter of seconds. "Is there anything else you need before I go?" she asked me. "Nope, I think I'm all good." I replied, replacing my hands in my pockets. "Alright, I'll miss you sweetie. Call me whenever you want." "Yes ma'am."
