Frank sat there with an eyebrow raised, staring at the unconscious figure in front of him. What the hell just happened? He sighed, of all the people he could get stuck with in this hell hole, it had to be the nut job. He was never going to find his way out of here if the person he was supposed to team up with fainted at the sight of his face, surely he wasn't that hideous? No this kid clearly had problems, perhaps it would be better to cut him loose now and just try to get out of there on his own. He decided to give teaming up one last shot and lay down on his back and continued to smoke his cigarette and wait for the raven haired boy to regain consciousness.


Gerard woke with a start, dazed and confused for a moment before remembering why he fainted. That face taunted him when he was struggling to breathe in that godforsaken river and now its here to torture him in this new place in human form this time. He rolled on his side to get up when he realised Frank was lying next to him sleeping. Gerard scotted backwards to get away from him, but Frank opened one eye and squinted at Gerard.

"Sup sleeping beauty?", he asked. Gerard just frowned at him. He chuckled, "Aww c'mon, why the grumpy face? Am I really that bad to wake up to? Normally people seem pretty pleased when they wake up next to me", he said with a smirk. Gerard just rolled his eyes and huffed, "Your face tried to kill me in the water", he said through gritted teeth.
"My what tried to what?", Frank seemed genuinely surprised.
"I said, your face tried to kill me in the river when I thought I was drowning"
"Oh"
"Oh? Oh! That's all you've got?", Gerard shook his head as if trying to shake the memory out of it, "Maybe I'm just going crazy".
"Not quite"
"What do you mean not quite?"
"Well I believe that you may have seen my face when you were in the water, but it wasn't me trying to kill you. The first time I saw you was when I found you sleeping on this rock. I told you man, we're in limbo, some weird shit goes on here", Frank said with a half smile to try and reassure Gerard.
"What exactly is limbo?", Gerard asked curiously.

Frank scratched the scorpion tattoo on his neck for a moment before he responded, Gerard couldn't help but think he looked pretty hot with it. "Well... it's kind of hard to explain. We're not dead, but we're not fully alive either, kind of in between like suspended animation or something. I don't really know the semantics of it or anything, all I know is I want to get the fuck out of here and kill whoever is doing this to me but I need your help coz I know I can't do it on my own.

As strange as this explanation sounded, Gerard believed him, it just felt right. He offered Frank a crooked smile before adding "I believe you dude, as crazy as that shit sounds I still believe you so I don't know if I'm just going bat shit crazy or not but either way I want out of here too."

Frank smiled back, his eyes lit up with relief and happiness. He stood up and dusted himself off before silently offering a hand to Gerard and pulling him into a standing position. He nodded towards the forest and said "I think we need to start there, we can't hang around this rock too much longer". With that he jumped off the rock and began walking towards the forest with Gerard slightly jogging to catch up to him.

They walked towards the forest in silence, thinking about the difficult task before them.
