Behind Amber Eyes

Harley

Harley had to postpone her mission. Dr. D told her to tell him if she had an interactions with the Fab Four. They couldn't know that she existed. If they did, it risked her life, not to mention the lives of the people Korse was using for experimentation.

As soon as she was a good distance away from Battery City, Harley tried paging Dr. D on her radio.

"109 in the sky," said Harley. She and Dr. D had a code that no one understood. They really only use it on the radio, for they never knew if someone was listening to them. Harley waited in silence until the unmistakable sound of the radio buzzing came on.

"The pigs won't quit," answered a familiar voice. Harley smiled. She hadn't heard Dr. D's voice in over 3 months. He was like a father to her. Ever since he took her in as a child, Harley had been close to him.

"Same place?"

"As always."

"Good," Harley said, " bye Dr. Death Defying." Harley reached to turn off the radio.

"Wait," said Dr. D. Harley pulled her hand away from the radio. "I miss you, kiddo."

Harley's heart flooded with joy. It had been so long since someone had gone out of their way to make her feel special.

"I miss you too," smiled Harley, "and take care, will ya?"

"I will," said Dr. D. With that, Harley switched the radio off and listened to music the rest of the way.

Party

Party could not get his mind off the girl in Battery City. She was so mysterious, so captivating. He wanted to know each and every thing about her. Secretly, he wished that she would seek him out.

"Party!" Yelled Jet. "Snap out of it."

"Yeah, quit daydreaming and at least try to act like your listening," snapped Kobra. Party shifted uncomfortably. He hated when people called him out on daydreaming, especially his own brother.

"Give him a break," added Ghoul, "we've been traveling all through the zones all week. Party has the right to be tired."

Party looked at Ghoul and mouthed "thank you". Ghoul just nodded and looked forward.

"Where to next?" Asked Party. He hoped they wouldn't need to stay in the zones much longer. Being away from his friends for so long made him homesick.

"We're heading to Zone 3 to do some business with a friend of Dr. D's. He says the guy has all sorts of supplies," answered Jet.

"Which you would've heard if you weren't asleep for half the ride," Kobra sneered. Ghoul elbowed him in the side and shot him a glare.

Party rolled his eyes. Kobra was probably still irritated about the scene in Battery City. He just got worked up so easily, and it took him a while to simmer down.

"Where's Dr. D at?" questioned Party.

"We think he's somewhere in Zone 2." We'll meet him after we're done in Zone 3," said Jet, his eyes glued on the gravely road in front of him.

Party nodded and stared out the window, analyzing the memory he had of the girl in the city.

Harley

Harley pulled up to the building and hopped off of her bike. She grabbed her keys as she walked to the building. It used to be a small coffee shop, but now, it was a hideout for killjoys and Dr. D's radio station.

She slid the key into the keyhole and opened the door. She took a step in and peered inside. Not much had changed since the last time she was there. It was a little bit more cluttered, but she assumed it was the other killjoys.

"Dr. D?" Harley called out.

"Ahh, my little sunshine," said a voice from within the place, " how's my Harley Killer?"

Dr. D rolled out on his wheelchair from behind a door. Harley beamed as she ran to hug him. It had been so long and she missed him so much. He held onto her with his warm embrace.

Harley let go first, but just to look down and smile. He smiled back, but only for a split second.

Although Dr. D enjoyed having Harley back, she was supposed to be in Battery City. He quickly led her over to a couch.

" Why did you come back?" Dr. D asked.

Harley hesitated for a second. " Something happened while I was in Battery City," Harley said worriedly , "I saw some people."

"Did they try to hurt you?"

"No. Nobody tried to hurt me."

Dr. D Raised his voice. "The who was it?"

Harley swallowed. "The Fab Four. Party, Jet, Kobra, Ghoul. They were all there. They all saw me.

Dr. D looked confused. "I thought they were in Zone 5. How did they make it to Battery City?" Dr. D trailed off. He thought Harley would be well hidden from the Fab Four. They were supposed to distrac Korse while Harley killed him in secret.

"I didn't tell them anything," said Harley.

"At least you managed to keep the plan secret," muttered Dr. D. "Did they ask you why you were there?"

"Yes I think Party did."

"What did you tell him?"

"Nothing. Just that I don't need help."

Dr. D bit his lip. It was dengerous now that Harley had been noticed. If the Fab Four spoke about her to anybody, the entire plan would be foiled.

"Have you ever thought of an alias?" Asked Dr. D.

"Like. Will joy name? I already have one."

"No, like a fake name."

"When would I ever use it, though?"

"All the time," answered Dr. D sternly.

Harley tilted her head. Maybe it would come in handy in some cases, but she would have to be more cautious. Her thoughts were interrupted by Dr. D.

" I'm thinking half killjoy name, half not. Depending on the situation, you can use whichever one."

Harley smiled, "and what name were you thinking?"

"Maybe something like 'Lana Shock'."

"Lana Shock." Harley moved the name around in her mouth. It had a certain ring to it. "Lana Shock," she said again.

"Yes, Lana Shock. And you can go by either. How's that sound?"

Harley smiled and gave a thumbs up. She could get used to being Lana Shock.
