Behind Amber Eyes

I Won't Let Them Hurt You

Luke

Luke and Ghoul had been traveling through the vents for quite some time. Cramped and sore, they took a break from crawling around.

"Where to?" Asked Ghoul, his voice tired and weak from crawling for so long.

"Michael and Raymond should be around here somewhere," replied Luke.

Ghoul let out a sigh of relief. "All we need to do it turn off the transmission thing and then they'll be free."

"It's not like that," chimed Luke, "if we turn it off, they both die, and they can't die they can't."

"Then what do we do?" Asked Ghoul, tugging at his long hair in anticipation. Luke bit his lip. They would have to distract Korse in some way, then they would have to lessen the strength of the radio signal.

"I have an idea, but it's risky." Luke explained what he had in mind to Ghoul. The short man frowned.

"That won't work. Korse is too smart, he'll find us out."

"But is all I can think of," choked Luke. Tears started welling in his eyes. He couldn't bare losing Michael. After an entire life of feeling empty and dull, he wanted to find someone who made him feel complete, and Michael was that person.

"We'll need to think of something else. Maybe if we find Party he can help-"

"But you promised we'd get Michael first!" Cried Luke. The tears slowly started falling down his cheeks. One by one. He hoped Ghoul couldn't see them in the dark lighting.

"Are you crying?" Asked Ghoul sympathetically. Luke stayed silent, allowing the tears to fall from his eyes. "I'm really sorry about what I said, please don't cry." Ghoul pulled Luke into his chest, allowing the tall man to weep quietly in his arms.

"I think I love him, Ghoul," whispered Luke, sobbing into Ghoul's shoulder. " He's the most beautiful person I have ever seen and he is so sweet an awkward and shy and I love him, I really do. But Korse has him and he'll die if we don't help him. The only person I'd take a bullet for..." Luke looked up at Ghoul. To his surprise, he was also crying.

"Did I say something?" Asked Luke. Hopefully Ghoul didn't feel the same way about Michael. That would be terribly awkward.

"It's nothing," he choked, brushing away the topic. "Are we gonna find Kobra or what?"

"Who is it?" Asked Luke, pushing away from Ghoul. Ghoul wiped the tears on his face away with his sleeve.

"Nobody. It doesn't matter."

"Tell me."

"No."

"It's Ellie, isn't it?"

Ghoul glared at Luke, more tears streaming down his face. The small mans lip started to quiver.
"It d-doesn't m-matter," stuttered Ghoul, trying to keep his voice calm."She's d-dead."

"You don't know that for sure. They could've lied to get a reaction from you."

"Or they could've killed her in order to get a reaction."

Luke looked down at his hands. Ghoul was right, it could've gone both ways.

"Let's find Party. He can help us get back the others, and it's better to have more numbers."

"You're not getting Kobra?"

"We'll do it with Party," said Luke. With that, the two got back to crawling around in the vents.

"He was only a couple rooms away from ours," said Luke, turning around a corner, Ghoul following closely behind. They crawled back to their original room, hoping to find that Party was nearby.

"He should be in here," said Luke, looking down at an empty room. It was messy, so he knew someone had been there.

"Then where did he go? Maybe he had the same idea that we had."

"No," said Luke, "there's no way Party could've reached the vent without a chair or something."

At that moment, two men in uniforms walked in.

"I think that's Jet and Kobra," whispered Ghoul. Luke looked closer and realized, it was them. They looked totally different. Jets hair was cut short, almost a crew cut, and Michael's hair was all shaved off. They seemed to be having a conversation, but it was hard to hear.

"I can't hear what their saying," whispered Ghoul.

"Shh!" Shushed Luke. "Let me try." Luke put his ear down and tried to hear what the two were saying.
"Where did boss send the red one?" Asked Jet.

"Basement," replied Michael.

"Orders please." The two stood silent, until their heads cocked back and their eyes rolled back.

"What the hell..." Said Ghoul. Luke could honestly say the same, but he kept quiet and kept listening.

"Kill," said Jet.

"Target: Lukas Andrew McCoy," said Kobra. Luke looked at Ghoul. The other man seemed as surprised as he was. Korse was going to make them kill him? He had told them all that they needed to know, the least they could do was spare his life.

Luke focused his gaze back down on Michael. They were going to make his lover kill him. Now he understood all this songs about the one you love being behind the trigger, but in this case, the metaphor was a reality.

"Target location: unknown," said Jet. Good, thought Luke, at least they don't know where I am.

It was that exact moment where Michael looked straight up into Luke's eyes. The innocence and kindness was gone. Replacing the beautiful hazel eyes were brown eyes, cold dark brown eyes. They harbored no emotion except hate. Luke flinched. They were so intense, just like Korse's.

Michael looked back down at Jet. He nodded and the two left the room.

"So did you hear anything?" Asked Ghoul.

"He's in the basement," said Luke shakily, "and they're going to kill me."

"What?" Hissed Ghoul. "At least they don't know where you are, right?"

Luke swallowed. "Michael saw me, but he didn't say anything."

"Was he looking at you directly?"

"Yes, right in my eyes."

Ghoul shook his head. "You are one lucky bastard, Lukas."

"Luke," corrected Luke. "And Party's in the basement. We should go." Luke turned in the direction of the basement and they crawled to Party.

Party

Party was completely convinced that Shock was out of her mind. Trapped inside of her head? That sounded like bull shit to him. And to make it worse, Korse could apparently visit and he raped her. If he could control her mind, he could probably make it seem like she was trapped inside her own mind and that he raped her every time he came.

But after he saw what happened when Korse mind-controlled her, he knew she wasn't kidding.

"Is that Mr. Way I hear?" Shock's voice deepened and her eyes switched to brown. Korse was back.

"Leave her alone," he spat.

"So it is you. I didn't know you sang."

"Why would you care. You'd rather molest girls while hey aren't even conscious."

He heard Shock call for help. Korse must've done something.

"I can't, I'm so sorry," he said, beating himself up for not being able to do something.

"I'm afraid he won't be able to do that my dear," said Korse/Shock, grinning slightly.

"You disgust me," he hissed.

"You don't matter anyways," said Korse/Shock. "It's a shame Mr. Way doesn't see you this way right now. But he'd enjoy it just as much."

Great, thought Party, he was going to make me watch Shock suffer from his rape.

"Stop, please stop, please," pleaded Shock, tears streaming from her eyes. "I never did anything to you."

"I'm doing you a favor," said Korse/Shock. Shock screamed and writhed around.

"Keep singing," she pleaded. Party obeyed and sang anything he could think of. Slow songs, fast songs, happy songs, sad songs. He sang anything and everything. His voice floated through the room along with Shock's screams and whimpers. Shock was crying, Party was crying, it was a mess.

With one last shriek, Shock fell limp, weeping silently. Party stopped singing and sat there, tears falling from his eyes. He had just witnessed the root of suffering. He could never forget the pain in Shocks eyes, or the shrill sound of her screams.

"Shock?" He choked out. She let her head droop down as she continued crying. Party didn't dare say anything else for the fear of Korse coming back. Instead, he focused on the rise and fall of her chest as she breathed. He focused on the way her hair covered her face. It had been a long three weeks? Four weeks? He didn't know, but he was exhausted of BLInd treating his friends like shit. He needed it all to be over.

"Just kill me already!" He wailed, hoping Korse would hear him and send someone to shoot him.

"Party!" Yelled someone. Party heard banging and footsteps. He didn't care who it was, he just wanted to die.

"You get the girl, I've got Party." Party saw Ghoul and the Lukas boy. Lukas came over to him. "Hey, hey, everything's okay, we'll get you out." Lukas wiped the tears from his eyes.

"Just kill me," he whispered, "I'm no use anyways."

"Why would you say that?" Asked Lukas. "We need you. You're the only hope we've got."

Party didn't care what Lukas said. Nobody could change his mind. If Lukas want going to do it then he would.

"Let me out," he demanded.

"No," said Lukas, "you'll just try to kill yourself, and I won't let that happen."

Party shook his head and Looked up at Shock. Ghoul was holding her tight, brushing her hair with his hands and calming her down with his sweet words.

Ghoul

Ghoul and Luke traveled through the vents, hoping to find the basement where Party was. Luke had told him how far they were from the basement every couple of minutes, but it still seemed like forever.

"We're close," said Luke. Ghoul sighed. That's what he had said for a while now.

"Are we actually-"

Ghoul was cut off by the sound of a piercing scream. Someone was in trouble, and he couldn't help thinking it was Party.

Luke started leading him to the sound of the scream. They scrambled through the vents until him and Luke fell out of one.

"Gah!" Yelled Luke as Ghoul landed on top of him. "Damnit, now what?" The two looked around.

"Just kill me already!" Someone yelled. It was unmistakably Party. The two scrambled and stood up.

"Party?" Yelled Luke. He started running, knocking into things as he ran towards the voice. Ghoul followed closely behind, but ran into Luke when he stopped.

"What is it?" Asked Ghoul. He looked in front of Luke and his jaw dropped to the ground. It was Shock, chained to the wall, crying. Breathing. Alive.

"You get the girl, I'll get Party," said Luke as he ran towards his friend. Ghoul took a deep breath in, trying to keep his composure. He ran over to Shock and hugged her tight, breathing shakily into her neck.

"It's okay, I'm here, we're going to help you. Everything is going to be back to normal," he cooed into her ear.

"Ghoul?" She croaked.

"Yeah, it's me," he said, stroking her hair. "I'm going to let you down now." Ghoul reached for one of her restraints.

"No!" She yelled, causing Ghoul to jump.

"Why not?" He asked, brushing his thumb across her tear-stained face.

"She can't see you," said Party dully.

Ghoul whipped around. "She's blind?"

"No," whimpered Shock.

"Korse has her trapped inside of her own mind," said Party.

Ghoul furrowed his eyebrow. Trapped in her own mind? That was odd, but he believed it.

"If you let me down, Korse will kill you all." She started crying again. Hard.

"Aww, don't cry, we'll figure something out."

"She has every reason to cry," spat Party.

"What do you mean-"

"HE'S BACK!" Shrieked Shock. Ghoul jumped back and stumbled into Luke.

"Stay quiet," hissed Party. Ghoul and Luke obeyed as they witnesses Shock's eyes change for the first time.
