Kids in Love

When Alice woke up the sun was beating down into her eyes. She was curled up under the sheets of her own bed wearing the same clothes she had on the day before and had a severe headache. She got up as slowly and gently as possible and miraculously made her way to the shower. After washing and brushing her teeth she felt a lot better. She at on her bed, nursing a cup of tea and a piece of dry toast and looking through the photographs she had taken the previous night. There were a tremendous amount of pictures of Frank, at least half of all of them. He was just captivating to her when he was on stage, he always looked so singularly involved in the music, like he was completely absorbed in the moment that he forgot where he even was. It was both strange and spectacular to watch. It was nice to look at the photographs, until she remembered some of the other events from last night. Frank and the other girl specifically.Alice had no idea who the girl was, she hadn't gotten a good look at her face because of it being attached to her friends' but from what she had seen the girl was beautiful. She had dark hair and olive skin, the short skirt she was wearing exposed her tattooed legs.


Alice didn't know her, and she knew not to judge a book by its cover, but she couldn't help but think about how this girl was almost the complete opposite of her. Maybe she was Frank's girlfriend that no one had talked about but that seemed pretty unlikely, Alice figured she wasn't anyone he knew particularly well, they were probably both drunk anyway. Kissing a stranger in a club was something Alice had never done, not for moral reasons, really just because she never had the opportunity. She realised she'd closed herself off to so many things in life, and what did that even accomplish. She admired people like Lindsey. People that dressed how they wanted, acted how they wanted and just lived their lives. She also kind of envied that. Without even giving it a second thought Alice grabbed reached into the pocket of the jeans she had left on the floor, finding a crumpled napkin. Unravelling it she read off the number and dialled it, waiting for an answer.
"Hello?" Lindsey's voice asked chirpily.
"Hey Lindsey, it's me Alice. Sorry if I woke you, I wasn't thinking, crap sorry..." she was flustered,
"Calm down, it's fine!" Lindsey comforted softly, "What's up, are you okay?"
"Yeah, I'm fine. I just wanted to know if you were free to meet up for coffee or something?" she cringed as the words came out of her mouth, she had met this girl less than twenty four hours before, what was she doing?
"Yeah, of course. You'll have to give me an hour or so though, unless you'd prefer to see me looking like a mess?" she asked, Alice could practically feel her warmth through the phone.
"Great, do you like anywhere in particular?" she asked,
"Well, do you mind if we meet at the mall, I've got to pick up a few things there anyway?"
"Perfect, see you there in like an hour. Bye"
"Bye."

Alice sat down at a small wooden table in the corner of a small quiet coffee shop. She'd ordered a plain black coffee, she still wasn't quite able to face much food after yesterday. Lindsey looked perfect though, Her black hair was pulled back into a loose tousled ponytail and she had the same dark red lipstick on, if it were possible she looked even better in the light if day. "Hello, how are you so bright this morning?" Alice asked as their coffees arrived at the table.
"I don't drink when I'm working. I mean, guys try and buy me drinks but I always dodge 'em." she laughed.
"Speaking of guys, how did you and Gerard get on last night, you were talking for an awfully long time" as soon as Alice mentioned his name Lindsey blushed and picked her mug up to hide the involuntary smile that broke across her face, "So you hit it off I take it?"
"Yep, he's really great." she blushed again,"We exchanged numbers, so we'll see what happens." "What do you mean?"
"Well, I liked him but, I don't know what he thought of me, y'know?"
"Lindsey, you wouldn't even have to look at him talking to for more than five seconds to know what he thought of you! There was not one moment of you guys' conversation that he was not smiling through. Trust me, he's gonna call."
"Thanks. Hey, how are you doing?" she asked.
"I'm good. I just had something to ask you. You know how you're so... I mean, I'm... no this is silly." she brushed it off, she really wan't even exactly sure what she was tying to ask.
"No, I'm sure it's not. C'mon, what were you trying to say?" she coaxed with a bright inviting smile on her face.
"Okay, fine. What I wanted was to ask for your help." she thought about what to say,
"I'm up for anything, what do you need?"
"That's exactly it Lindsey! You're up for anything. I'm so closed off and kind of set in my ways. I mean, I dress the same as I did when I was fucking fifteen for god's sake!" Alice told her, looking down at herself. she was wearing blue jeans and a cardigan, as per usual.
"What do you mean, you look absolutely fine." Lindsey reassured her, putting her hand on Alice's arm, "You're gorgeous and you're probably just being paranoid!"
"Well, it's not like I feel bad about myself or anything. I just feel like I'm stuck in this boring routine, I need a change of pace!" Alice was thinking out loud.
"Okay, what can I do to help?" Lindsey asked,
"Um," Alice thought, "will you help me pick out some new clothes?"
