Pansy

"Frank, Pansy. Come on you'll be late!" mom yells from outside as I help Pansy do up her shoe laces. "Frankie, will you let me hang out with you?" she asks and I smile, "of course Pans," I say and she beams. "Now come on let's go." We both get up and go outside, it's really freaking cold.

"Come on you two I want a picture of your first day." Mom says instructing for us to stand by the door, I stand next to Pansy and we both smirk whilst looking at each other. "by god you two look the same." My mom laughs kissing Pansy on the cheek and me on the top of my head.
Whilst driving to mine and Pansy's school my mom starts singing to The Killers, "lets cause a scene like lovers do on silver screens, it's indie rock'n'roll for me."

Once we arrive at the school I see my best friends waiting for me at the gate, Gerard, Ray and Mikey. Our other friend Bob Bryar moved to Chicago. "Have fun you two!" Mom yells waving good bye.

Pansy stays close to me as we get closer to my friends, "Hi Frankie!" Gerard yells, Gerard has black hair and he is a little on the chubby side, "Hey Frank." Mikey says not looking up from the comic that he is reading, Mikey has glasses that are always at the end of his nose, threatening to fall off. "Who's this Frank?" Ray asks looking at Pansy, she grabs a hold of my hand. Ray has a mass of curly hair and a kind smile.

"Guys this is Pansy my younger sister, its her first day." I say proudly. "Pans this is; Gerard, Mikey and Ray." I say pointing to each one of them. As soon as Pansy was about to say hello the bell goes and the guys scurry off to class, "Pansy I'll show you where to go." I say smiling.
As I lead Pansy to her class room the warning siren goes off, you can hear it everywhere in New Jersey, it signals that it is not safe to be outside. Ever since the war started no where has been safe.

"Come on Pansy, we have to hurry!" I say picking her up and running to her class room. "PaNsY iErO?" the computerised teacher says calling out the attendance, "She's here miss." I say putting Pansy down, she doesn't let go of my hand. "AhH tHaNk YoU FrAnK, pAnSy YoU cAn SiT wItH.... ZaViEr." the robot says and Pans goes to sit down.

I leave her class room and start walking to mine, "ALERT! ALERT! CODE BLACK! CODE BLACK! EVERYONE REMAIN IN THEIR ROOMS!" A computerised voice says and I begin sprinting to my class room. Code Black means that bombs are going to go off.
"LET ME IN!!" I yell banging on my classroom door, I can hear the bombs fall. I cover my ears wit my hands and close my eyes, preparing for the worst.

"Jesus, Frankie are you alright?" Gerard asks as I rub my eyes, "yeah...." I say and he smiles, "thank god, you barely missed a bomb going off. but I pulled you in." Gee says proudly as I close my eyes again.

~Next Day~

Pansy and I were woken up at five in the morning. "Quick get up guys, all children must be evacuated." Mom says picking up Pansy and giving her to me. "Stay with your sister Frankie." She says giving me a sad look, "what about you mom?" I ask blinking back the tears, "I'll be fine, you too just have to be safe." she says kissing the top of Pansy's and my heads.

I run out the door with Pansy still in my arms, there are army people everywhere children running out of their homes. "Pansy? PANSY WAKE UP!" I yell and her eyes open. "Pans I need you to hold my hand and run okay, do not let go of my hand." Pansy nods and I put her down.
We begin to run, Pansy's blonde hair bouncing in the wind. "Frankie I'm tired." Pans says and I don't stop, "Pansy we have to keep moving." I say I can feel her heartbeat through her palm.
As we run towards a series of vans and cars where other children are being put in. Heaps of people swarm towards us pulling Pansy and I apart.

"PANSY!" I scream as I push through the crowd of people, "FRANKIE!' I hear her scream, her voice seems far away. "Boy where are you going?" a man in an army uniform, "I need to find my sister!" I yell a tear rolling down my cheek.

"Listen son, your sister will be fine." The man says pulling on my arm. "No I need to find my sister. I promise my mom. PANSY!" I yell but I don't hear her call back. "PANSY ELIZABETH IERO!!" I yell again. no answer.

The man tries to move me but I punch him in the nose. "You fucking prick!" the man yells as I run away. "PANSY WHERE ARE YOU!" I yell looking frantically around. There is no sign of her. "Frank?" I hear a familiar voice say, "Gee?!" I say and he grabs my hand. "We have to get out of here Frank." He says. "We have to find Pansy." I say letting tears roll down my cheeks. "She'll be fine, now come on!"

I begin running with Gerard. We don't stop. everyone is getting smaller and smaller as we run. "Ray and Mikey are waiting for us." Gerard says.

'Pansy please be safe.' I think to myself as we continue to run.
