Gerard's POV
Gerard ended up being the first one to the band room at lunch, and started to get worried. Had he scared Frank off with that heartfelt speech? No...no there must be some other explanation. He sure hoped there was, because he'd grown really attached to Frank, even just in the few days they'd known each other, and he really wanted to help him.
He was just starting to really panic when Frank opened the door. "Hi." He said quietly, sitting down next to Gerard and...and pulling a sack lunch out of his backpack.
"Hey." Gerard smiled, glad that Frank was eating. Maybe he was imagining things, but he was starting to look better already.
They ate in silence, but it was a comfortable silence. Gerard started thinking about the road trip. He knew the most important thing to figure out was where they were going and where they'd be staying, but right now he was focused on the music. Because a good road trip needed a good sound track. He was thinking one based on AC/DC. He didn't normally listen to bands like them but they were perfect for road trips. He finished eating and decided he'd better discuss the matter with Frank.
"So...what do you think of AC/DC?"
Frank finished eating before speaking. "Eh, I don't normally listen to them but they're a good band and sometimes they're just the right band for a situation."
Gerard grinned. Good. "That's how I feel about them too. I was thinking about basing our road trip sound track off of them."
Frank nodded. "Sounds good. Hey we should probably figure out how long we're going to be gone."
"Well...that depends on what kind of road trip we'll be taking. I mean, there's the kind where you go to one place and stay there for awhile, or the kind where you hit a bunch of places and stay a day each."
"I was thinking kind of a mix of the two. Like...go to a few places and camp there for a few days each. I've always wanted to go camping."
"Oh, that sounds great! Lucky us my family has a nice tent. I'm sure my mom will let us borrow it."
Frank gave him a smile. Gerard was starting to fall in love with his smile. "That sounds great. But who's car will we use?'
"Hm...well I do have a car. It's pretty old but it'll be fine just as long as we don't go off road or on any steep hills."
"Well jeez, now I feel like I'm not contributing anything."
Gerard smiled. "All you need to contribute is yourself. Without you the trip would be nothing." Damn that was cheesy. But it was true. Gerard wasn't sure if he'd even want to take a trip like that with his best friend from his old school.
"Thanks." Gerard could almost swear that Frank was blushing.
Before he could say anything more, the bell rang and they headed off to class.
Notes
Yay planning. Sorry if this was boring but eh, it had some important bits.
