Frank's POV
After an awfully boring hour of listening to Gerard's mom warn them about probably everything that exists, Gerard and Frank were in Gerard's car and heading towards, well, somewhere else. They stayed mostly silent until they got near the edge of the town.
"You ready?" Gerard asked, grinning.
"Hell fucking yeah I am." Frank got ready to start up their playlist, which was mainly composed of AC/DC, Van Halen, and Aerosmith. None of those were bands they normally listened to but, well, road trips required a little something different.
As they passed the sign telling them that they were officially leaving the town, he pressed play, and Thunderstruck by AC/DC came on. A fitting first song for what was sure to be an amazing three weeks.
Their goal for tonight was a campground about eight hours away on the Oregon coast. It was a K.O.A campground just across from a state park on the beach, so they were planning on spending a lot of time in the water and flying kites.
Frank sat back in his seat, taking in the scenery flying past. He hadn't left his hometown in...well, since he was five. And that's way too long if you ask most people. Definitely too long for Frank. He glanced over at Gerard and smiled. Strange how much his life had changed in just the few weeks he'd known him. And...maybe he didn't know what love was yet but...damn, this felt pretty close.
Gerard glanced back at him and he looked away, unable to stop a smile from spreading across his face.
Gerard chuckled. "What're you smiling about?"
"Oh just, you know, everything."
"Everything?"
Frank laughed, grinning happily as he tried to list everything he was smiling about. "Well I passed all my classes, I only have one more terrible year of high school left before I can leave for good, I finally met someone who doesn't hate my guts, I'm going on a road trip with an attractive guy, I'm listening to uplifting music, we're going to the fucking beach, what's not to smile about?" He pushed his hair out of his face, singing along to 'Walk This Way' under his breath.
"...attractive?" Gerard raised an eyebrow.
Ah, shit. Had he really said that out loud? "Well...I-I mean...." Shit. Don't say anything stupid, Frank. "Well, it's true." Fuck.
"Really? Well, you're pretty hot yourself."
"Oh. Uh, thanks." Well, that wasn't so bad. He could feel his face getting warm and focused on the lyrics of the song, trying to ignore how being around Gerard made him feel.

When they finally reached the campsite, it was eight o'clock, not quite sunset, giving them just enough time to set up the tent before it started getting dark. It may be a nice tent, but that didn't mean it was particularly roomy. Not that it mattered, they only had to fit themselves and their sleeping bags.
"Hey." Gerard spoke up as the sun was starting to set, pulling out his camera. "Wanna go check out the beach."
"Yeah! Of course!" Being at the beach at sunset with Gerard? Sounded like a dream.
They got in the car, driving over to the beach and getting out, Gerard immediately taking pictures of pretty much everything before putting his camera back in the car. "Don't wanna get too much sand in it."
Frank nodded, starting to wander towards the water, wondering how cold it was. Probably really fucking cold. "Jeez, there's so much open space." They were about halfway between the ocean and where they had parked.
"Yeah, it's crazy." Gerard walked over to a piece of driftwood, sitting down.
Frank followed, sitting down next to him. It was just dark enough that they could see a few of the brightest stars, and the sky was absolutely beautiful. Frank tilted his head back, trying to see the whole sky at once, and ended up falling over backwards, laying spread-eagle in the sand.
Gerard giggled, looking down at him. "You okay back there?"
"Yeah I just- Gerard you should get down here. It's a great angle."
Gerard lay down next to him. "Wow, you're right."
They lay there in silence, Frank looking at Gerard out of the corner of his eye. He had to tell him. And what better time than now, away from all the pressures of, well, people? And sure, it might make the rest of the trip a little awkward, but it might also make it even better. Anyways, Gerard didn't really tend to be awkward so- ...just do something, Frank.
Gerard was still watching the sky, and Frank figured it was now or never. Heart fluttering in his chest, he leaned closer to Gerard, kissing his cheek. Gerard turned towards him, a questioning look in his eyes, and Frank kissed him. He actually kissed Gerard Way on the lips.
As soon as he pulled away he covered his face with his hands, blushing bright red. Holy shit, he couldn't believe he'd actually just done that.
"...Frank?" Gerard gently tried to pull Frank's hands away from his face. "Frankie?" The nickname caught him off guard and he dropped his hands, looking up at Gerard and trying to think of something to say.
He was about to apologize when Gerard kissed him.
