If You Were Here.
Chapter Six
(Miles P.O.V)
Bandit sipped warily from her heart contaminated cappuccino, judging me with her hazel eyes that are more balanced than mine. I considered approaching the subject of her dad again, but I really didn’t think that would be a good idea. So I dropped it, and we continued to study eachother.
She is a very pretty girl; of course I do have a thing for dyed hair, and girls that like bands and piercings. I’ve never wanted a piercing of any kind; I can’t imagine it on me. However, her eyebrow piercing suited her; it brought attention to her eyes which seemed to change colours in the light. Last night they were darker and I bet that if I were to take a picture in the right lighting, I could make them greener.
“I like your eyes…and your piercing…and your hair…” I trailed off, and she eyed me musingly with a ghost of a smile playing at one side of her face.
“Thanks…” She smiled more, and I thought about hiding. Complimenting people is hard, because what if they think I’m flirting? In reality, I just think they’re beautiful and they should know it.
“I’m not flirting!” I blurted out before I could stop myself. She raised her pierced eyebrow again.
“I didn’t think you were,” she assured me with a sly smile.
“It’s just, well last night your eyes were darker and in this lighting they’re balanced and I feel like they’d change different colours in different lighting, and it makes me want to take pictures and—,” I shut myself up by clamping down on my tongue. ‘I want to take pictures of you,’ you’re such a creep Miles. This is why people edge away from you. I took another sip of my cappuccino, wishing it would scald my tongue and throat so I would never talk again. My hair came down over my face again.
“Heyhey don’t hide! Do you do photography?” She asked me reassuringly, and I nodded meekly. “That’s really cool! What do you take pictures of?” She put her cup down and seemed to look genuinely interested.
“Yeah…my dad—he taught me, and well I-I kinda like taking pictures of a-anything really, as long as there’s something interesting the light does to it.” I emerged from behind my hair, slightly nervous telling her about my “thing.” She just tilted her head at me, seeming to not understand something.
“What do you mean by ‘if the light does something interesting to it’?” She abandoned her cappuccino completely as I took another nervous sip. I don’t normally explain my “things” to people.
“Like, sometimes the way light will hit an object is different…and it seems like, brighter or more important…or something…” I tried to explain, but failed. If only there was a way to mind-meld and she would understand completely.
“I’m not sure I completely understand…” she said slowly, but not disinterested.
“Ugh! If I had my camera I could show you, or even my pictures! I’m sorry.” I muttered the last part, and tossed my head back, just a little frustrated at myself. She smiled, this time no smirk or risen eyebrows, but something reassuring.
“It’s okay, you can show me some other time,” she picked up her cup and started to drink again.
“Nah, you don’t mean that,” she probably didn’t, whenever people say ‘some other time’ they really mean ‘never.’ An unreadable expression painted her face, as she held her mug an inch from her lips while her eyes locked onto me.
“Actually, I do…we can make it a ‘date’,” she promised me. Oh…she might mean it.
“When?” I studied her warily from the curtain of my dark hair.
“Whenever you want.” She stated, shrugging her shoulders empathizing that it really didn’t matter.
“Uhm…Tuesday, 2 pm, my place is fine…?” I watched her carefully, as she looked up and considered the time in her head.
“Agreed,” she said firmly and stuck out her hand, which I hesitantly took, and we shook on it.
Notes
Hey again! I'm not sure if it was weird going into Miles POV but I thought it'd help me feel less stuck, sorry it's short just I thought the cafe' scene was getting boring.
Thanks for reading, you are all amazing people!!! <333
@Dust_Angel
Yeah this website has been weird lately, I think it's running slower...because when I commented on a couple stories it took forever to submit and so I kept pressing submit I ended up posting lots of comments. xD
