Frank's POV

Frank was feeling surprisingly confidant. He may be the new kid at school but hey, new school means fresh start. And he was determined to make the best of it. He'd picked his outfit carefully that morning. He was wearing black combat boots, dark green jeans, a black and yellow diagonal striped t-shirt, and a black vest.

Finally the bus stopped at school, but Frank didn't have much time to look around because the bell rang almost immediately after he got through the front doors. Fortunately, he was able to find his class easily enough. First period advanced guitar. He sat down in the back of the room, setting his guitar case down next to him.

Just as the bell rang again to signal the start of class, someone slipped through the door, narrowly avoiding being late, and sat down right next to Frank.

The teacher stepped up to the front of the room, clapping his hands to get everyone's attention. "Welcome, class! This year in advanced guitar I hope you all will learn a lot about your instrument. Not just from me, but from your peers as well. And how can you learn from your peers if you don't know them? Now, I'm going to put my trust in you. This is a fairly small class so I think this will work out. I'm going to let you use the period to get to know one another. But I know who knows who, so please don't spend the whole period talking to your best friend." He paused to look at a pair of kids in particular, then resumed talking. "Alright, go! Meet someone new!" He disappeared back into his office and Frank nervously stared at the ground. Talking to new people really wasn't his strong suit.

"Hey."

He looked up, realizing someone was talking to him. "Oh, hi."

"My name's Ray." The guy next to him held out a hand.

"I'm Frank." He shook Ray's hand, giving him a shy smile. "Nice to meet you."

"How long have you been playing?"

"Um...let's see...this will be my sixth year."

"Impressive. I've only been playing for three. Are you a junior?"

"Senior, actually."

"I was close." Ray chuckled. "I'm a junior. Are you new here? I don't think I've seen you around before."

"Yeah. I just moved here this summer."

"Oh, well it's a great place to be. How are you liking it so far?"

"Eh, it's alright. Although I admit I haven't really gotten much of a chance to leave the house yet so I don't know how qualified I am to answer that question."

"Well, you'll learn to love it."

"Yeah, I hope so."

Ray was looking curiously at his guitar case. "So...since this is guitar class, can I see your guitar?"

"Oh, sure. It's really shitty though since I don't really play acoustic." He pulled his old guitar out of his case and handed it to Ray.

"Yeah I see what you mean. But hey, if it's not broken, it's good enough." He strummed a few chords, than started playing something that Frank didn't recognize.

After he was finished Frank spoke up. "That was really cool! What was it though?"

"Oh, it's just something I wrote for a band me and my friends started."

Frank perked up. "A band?" He'd always wanted to be in a band. But...if Ray was in it...that meant they already had a guitarist. Dang it Frank, stop getting your own hopes up.

"Yep. We call it My Chemical Romance."

"Wow. Kickass band name."

Ray grinned. "Thanks, we're pretty proud of it."

"Oh, I wish I were in a cool band." Wow, that sounded a lot more whiny and sad than he'd meant it to.

"You know...Gerard did mention how cool it would be if we had a rhythm guitarist." Ray smiled at him. "You'd have to audition of course, but I trust that your six years of playing won't let you down."

Frank grinned excitedly. "Oh, that would be awesome! When can I audition?"

"Well, I'll have to ask Gerard, since you'll be auditioning for him. Oh, actually I could text him right now." He pulled out his phone, sending a quick message.

"So who all is in your band? Well- not that it matters, I don't know any of them."

"Well there's me on guitar, Gerard's the singer, his little brother Mikey is the bassist, and our friend Bob does percussion."

"Wow, sounds great. Are they all juniors too?"

Ray shook his head. "Bob is, but Mikey is a sophomore and Gerard is a senior." He picked up his phone as it buzzed, reading Gerard's reply before addressing Frank again. "Are you free tomorrow?"

"Is tomorrow a Thursday? Summer kind of messed up my internal clock."

"Um...yeah. Yeah it is."

"Then I'm free. I just need to know what time and where to go. Oh also what he wants to hear."

"How about I find out later and text you?"

"Sounds good!"

They exchanged numbers, and Frank smiled to himself. This was turning out to be an interesting town.
