Gerard's POV


Ah yes, the yearly 'back-to-school' trip to the mall. Alone. While being handed $500 and being told to 'get whatever you want, son' was great and all, sometimes Gerard wished he had someone to spend it with. Oh well.

He wandered around, frowning at the "trendy" stores for teen girls that all looked exactly the same. He needed to find what he was looking for soon or he was going to get a headache from all the perfume.

Finally, Hot Topic. Sure, a lot of their stuff was out-of-date and just plain embarrassing but, well, there weren't a lot of high-quality stores around that weren't designed for preppy teens. He slipped inside, heading straight for the band t-shirts.

Five shirts, a pair of skinny jeans, and a black hooded vest later, he was sitting at the food court, sipping at a coffee and watching people go by. They were such strange things, people. Always so eager to go with the flow and fit in, and yet their ultimate goal was to be noticed.

His thoughts were interrupted by someone who...just seemed different. He wasn't wearing anything particularly noticeable, but something about him made Gerard sure he wasn't part of the crowd that flowed through the hallways. He had shoulder-length black hair (Gerard couldn't tell if it was dyed or not) and his smile was particularly captivating. It seemed to mean something more than what smiles typically mean.

Suddenly he looked straight at Gerard, snapping him out of it. After a few seconds of sitting in stunned silence he laughed at himself. Silly boy, getting so caught up in a complete stranger.
Standing up, he finished his coffee and tossed the cup in the trash, heading home.
