Just Look at All That Pain

*One week later*
Gerard made an unplanned trip to stay with his family for the week, leaving on the Sunday afternoon. He had even taken Pansy with him. Since they brought him home, he stuck to Gerard’s side like glue.
The past week had been hell for Frank. The messages and pictures were being received constantly. He couldn’t leave the apartment building without having another picture being sent.
It was Tuesday when the first letter arrived. It hadn’t been mailed which meant that whoever was doing this, knew where he lived. He wouldn’t have really minded except they were always violent hate messages and always had Polaroid pictures of Gerard, the girls and/or Jamia tied up and covered in cuts and bruises. They weren’t real, which was the only good thing.
On top of all this, someone broke into Jamia’s house and assaulted her. Luckily the girls were staying at a friend’s house but Jamia was found the next morning in a coma by the mother and the girls. She was rushed into hospital on the Monday morning. She woke up from the coma on the Tuesday night and first thing on Wednesday morning, Frank made the trip to the hospital in Trenton, which was about an hour and a half away, only to be told he couldn’t see her and then be arrested because Jamia’s sister tipped off the police that he might have done it.
Frank spent the majority of Wednesday in the Trenton police station, until they finally found someone who could verify that he wasn’t even in New Jersey at the time. He hadn’t spoken to Gerard since the fight they had on the phone on Tuesday night, where he said ‘he was taking a break for a while’. A break from what? From him? From Manhattan? Gerard didn’t specify before he hung up. He couldn’t take much more.

“Bye Mom”, Gerard said with a smile, noticing how upset his mother was getting. “You and Dad should come up to New York, especially now that Mikey is moving up there as well.”
The news that Mikey was moving out of New Jersey and into Queens with his new band mates almost gave both their parent’s a heart attack, but if that’s what he wanted to do, good for him. Maybe they would see each other a bit more often instead of just holidays.
Gerard waved to his dad who was stood in the doorway of the front door before kissing his mom one last time and grabbing his backpack and Pansy’s travel crate and putting them in the back seat of his old black Shelby GT. He jumped in the driver’s seat and shoved a Nirvana CD in before giving a final wave and backing out of the driveway. Pansy stopped crying after about ten minutes and Gerard was sure he had fallen asleep again. Gerard was excited to see Frank again. He seemed a bit weird when they talked on Tuesday but he hoped he was in a better mood when he got home. He texted him on Thursday night to let him know that he was coming home on Sunday around 1 o’clock but he hadn’t answered. He had forgotten about it until his phone beeped. He pulled into the gas station at the edge of town to fill up. After he attached the hose, he pulled his phone from the cup holder next to the gear stick. He had a text message from Mikey
‘Hey Gee. We finally finished unpacking. See you about 8 for a drink?’
‘Congrats lol Dave’s at 8?’
Dave’s Bar was roughly between Manhattan and Queens and the food was half decent. He sent his reply and paid for the gas. He could hear Pansy crying in the back seat again. He got back in and continued on his way.
He finally reached his destination as he pulled into the underground parking lot under their apartment. Gerard started to get excited as he parked next to Frank’s car.
Wait. Where’s Frank’s car?
Frank knew he was coming home today at around 1. “Maybe I’m just early or something”, he thought as he checked the time on his phone. 1:07. He also had a new message from Mikey.
‘Cool. See u then’
He shoved his phone in his back pocket without answering, slung his backpack over his shoulder and grabbed Pansy and took the elevator up to their floor.
