Just Look at All That Pain
Action Cat
Watford Park wasn’t very big but it offered an escape from the busy city life. Frank and Gerard followed the cobblestone path that led through the park and to a small pond in the center of the park. It was about midnight by the time they reached the park benches next to the pond and sat down.
“Aww look at that kitten, Frankie” Gerard squealed quietly a few seconds after they sat down.
“The poor thing is so skinny.”
Gerard slowly got up and kneeled on the ground a few feet away from Frank. The little black and white kitten walked over from under the bush it was hiding in and rubbed around Gerard.
“Frankie,” Gerard said as he turned around to face him.
“Don’t give me that look, Gee.”
“Babe, please,” Gerard said as he picked up the kitten and brought him back to the bench. It was purring as it sat in Gerard’s lap.
Frank’s phone started to ring as Gerard stared at him with huge puppy-dog eyes. He slipped it out of his back pocket and looked at the screen. ‘Jamia’ flashed across the screen. He quickly answered it, ignoring Gerard’s pleas. He got up and took a few steps away from Gerard
“Frank,” Jamia questioned as he answered. She sounded like she was crying.
“What’s wrong, Jamia. Are the girls ok?”
“Yea, yea. They’re fine. It’s just. Can I see you now? Are you busy? I know it’s late but..” Her voice trailed off.
He glanced back at Gerard, who was still playing with the kitten in his lap. “Yea ok. Meet me at that little bar around the corner from the apartment in about half an hour. You know where I mean?”
“Y-yeah. I’ll be there.”
“Ok, see you in a bit.”
He hung up, sighed and tried to think of a logical reason why the hell she was calling him at 12 at night. He walked back to Gerard, who looked up and asked him who it was.
“Jamia. She sounded really upset. She asked to see me,” Frank said sheepishly.
“Now,” Gerard asked looking partially worried and partially suspicious.
“Yeah, I’m going to see her in about half an hour.”
“We should go then,” he said, sounding defeated. He slid the kitten off his lap and stood up.
“You’re just going to leave him there,” Frank asked. He knew Gerard was going to be upset and he didn’t really mind cats. The apartment was too quiet anyway.
“Really?? You sure??” Gerard perked up a bit and scooped the kitten back into his arms. The kitten immediately started purring again as Gerard started walking back towards their apartment. Frank wrapped his arm around Gerard’s waist.
They had almost reached the apartment when Frank stopped.
"Do you mind heading up alone,” he asked.
“No, don’t worry,” Gerard said with a weak smile as he ran his hand over the kitten’s head. Frank leaned forward and gently kissed Gerard.
“See you in a bit, babe,” Frank said with a small smile. He turned and headed towards the bar.
