Just Look at All That Pain
Darling, You'll Be Ok
Frank leaned over and checked the clock hanging on the wall to his left. 9:58. “Gee, do you still wanna go have dinner? I’m sure we could get a table at the Italian down the street. It wasn’t the big, fancy dinner I had planned but it means we won’t have to cook.”
“Good plan, babe. I’ll jump in the shower quick.” He kissed Frank before scooting off the bed and walking into the adjoining bathroom.
“I’ll come join you” Frank called after him.
“I was hoping you would say that” Gerard said with a laugh.
Frank got up and headed towards the bathroom but he was interrupted by his phone ringing.”Just a sec” he called back to Gerard as he walked back into the living room where he found his phone on the coffee table. He pressed the big, green ‘answer’ button on his iPhone screen. “Hello?” “Hello?” “Anyone there?” There was no answer. Huh, that’s weird, he thought as he went to put his phone back on the table. It beeped right as he put it down. ‘Message Received’ flashed up on the screen. He unlocked the screen and opened the message. It was a picture of him sat in Jamia’s driveway this afternoon but it was taken from across the other side of the street. Whatever, it’s probably just Jamia trying to pull something, he thought.
“I thought you were going to join me?” Gerard said stood in the bedroom doorway in his towel.
“Shit, you were too quick.”
“Frankie, I was literally in there for about 15 minutes. What happened?” Gerard started to look worried now.
“No.. Nothing. It’s nothing.” Frank said, trying to reassure him. Shit, had I really been stood here for that long, he thought to himself. He forced a smile and said “I’ll shower quick and we can go, ok?”
Gerard could tell he was lying but he knew Frank would tell him eventually if he had too. “Yea ok,” Gerard said as Frank walked back through the bedroom and into the bathroom.
Frank heard Gerard in the bedroom getting ready as he rinsed the shampoo out of his black hair. He grabbed the towel from the rack next to the shower and dried off quickly, still thinking about that weird message. He grabbed a pair of black boxer briefs from a drawer in the bedroom and slipped them on. He grabbed another pair of black skinny jeans and a white band shirt and put them on as he walked back into the bathroom. He drew some eyeliner, thinking to himself, I’m getting too old for this shit.
“You almost ready,” Gerard called from the living room.
“Yea, two seconds.”
He grabbed his leather jacket from the back of the bathroom door and joined Gerard in the living room.
Shit, he looks good, Frank thought. He had his usual outfit on. Black skinny jeans and a black button up shirt on, but damn, he could pull it off.
“Let’s go” Frank said as he wrapped his hand around Gerard’s waist and grabbed his keys off the counter. They set off down the street, hand in hand.
