Just Look at All That Pain

Ray arrived a few minutes after the phone call. Gerard could here Mikey break the news to Frank. Silence spread though the apartment again. Gerard slipped back into a trance, barely noticing Ray wrapping his arms around his shoulders, trying to comfort him.
“Gee… Gee? Gerard? We gotta go out for a bit but I’ll be back later. Im taking your extra set of keys, ok,” Mikey asked as he kneeled on the floor next to Gerard.
Gerard nodded and lent back on the couch as he heard the door close. He suddenly realized how quiet it was now. There had always been some sort of noise these past few days, be it Mikey, Ray, Pansy or the TV.
'Wait, where Pansy was when all this was going on,' Gerard thought to himself. He mustered up the energy to call out his name, but nothing. Usually he would come running; assuming either Gerard or Frank was going to feed him. Gerard stood up, thinking maybe he was asleep on the bed. He walked across the dimly lit room to the bedroom, checking under the bed and in the closet before he was interrupted by a knock on the door.
He begrudgingly walked to the door and opened it to a sheepish-looking Bert.
“Hey Gee, long time no see,” he said with a nervous smile as he scratched the back of his head with one hand.
“No. I’m not doing this now,” Gerard said as he started to close the door.
“Gee, Gee, wait,” Bert said holding the door open. “Please, just, can we talk?”
Gerard sighed but didn’t answer. He turned back towards the living room and sat back down on the couch, leaving the door open.
“Gee, I just wanted to say how sorry I am about Frank. And I know you’re still made at me but if you need anything, I’m here for you,” he said as he slid his hair out of his eyes.
“Don’t worry, Bert. I have everything I need right her,” Gerard replied flatly.
“Gee, don’t be like that. It’s been almost a year. When are you going to start talking to me again?”
“You tried to cheat on me with my fucking brother.”
“And you cheated on Fra-“
“I never cheated on Frank and you know that,” Gerard snapped back.
After a moment of awkward silence, Bert asked, “can I buy you dinner?” “Not like a date, just to catch up and take your mind off things,” he added quickly.
To be honest, being inside the apartment was starting to get to him. Maybe dinner wasn’t such a bad idea.
“Fine… but let me shower first,” Gerard mumbled.
“Need any help,” Bert said jokingly.
Gerard shot him the dirtiest look possible before slipping into the bedroom and locking the door. He quickly stripped down and jumped in the shower. He stood under the water for a moment before realizing that Frank was the last person to use it. He desperately shoved that thought out of his head as he washed as quick as he could, managing not to burst into tears. He combed his hair before slipping on a pair of underwear, some skinny jeans and a Black Flag t-shirt. He went to unlock the door, when he heard his phone ringing, still in the pocket of his jeans on the bathroom floor. He went back in and picked it up, pressing the ‘Answer’ button as he brought it to his ear.
“Hey Gee, it’s Mikey.”
“Hey.”
“I just wanted to let you know that the police found Frank’s car. It was parked up by the Botanical Garden in the Bronx. They haven’t found Frank yet, though.”
“Oh ok.” Gerard knew they were bound to find it eventually but why the hell was it up there?
“I’m really sorry I can’t come over tonight. I’ve gotta do some things with the band and.” His voice trailed off. Gerard could tell he was feeling guilty.
“Mikey, don’t worry. I’m going out anyway.”
“Y- you’re going out,” he questioned nervously. “Is that a good idea?”
“I’m just going for a walk and some dinner. I’ll be fine.
Gee, be careful,” Mikey said, soundly slightly worried. Gerard hadn’t burst into tears yet, which was a good sign, but the last time he said he was going on a walk was the night he almost overdosed on coke. But anyway, Mikey needed to get back to his life, just like Gerard knew he had too. And, it was only dinner.
