Bright Lights That Cast A Shadow

Chapter Twenty Seven

"So uh, I have stuff planned for tonight," Frank glanced over at me looking rather nervous as he fidgeted behind the wheel of his car. I chuckled lightly, nervous as well.
"Well, that's good," I told him, pulling the hem of my shirt away from my stomach self consciously. It's like my brain registered the fact that we were dating, but the idea of a date had kicked in it's urge to impress. Kinda late on its part, but here it was now, making me nervous even though I knew Frank wouldn't judge me.
Frank chuckled softly, but continued sending me small glances. "What I meant is that I planned something to meet both of our...err...needs." I shot him a confused look. He blushed and turned him attention back to the road. "You know, eating." He strained the word eating and I knew it made him uncomfortable. I knew it would, but it still made me slightly sad. I guess I let my emotions play across my face too much, because he hurried to continue. "No no no! I'm okay with it. People eat animals, you eat people." He cringed at his choice of words. "Oh I didn't mean it like that!"
"It's okay," I reassured him. What he said had been the truth after all. In fact it made it sound more normal in a way. Like it wasn't some horrible monstrous thing to do. Like it was just as common as walking into McDonald's and ordering a Big Mac. People eat Big Macs, Gerard eats people. Simple.
"What I mean is that I don't know how you're gonna react to what I planned for you," He explained as he turned off a side road into a parking lot. It took me a moment to recognize it as a local park. I leaned over and gave him a quick kiss on the cheek.
"I'm sure I'll love it," I promised. He nodded and cracked open his door so that he could get out. I followed his lead and stepped out onto the asphalt. I glanced around our surroundings. We were the only car parked, leaving the rest of the spaces empty. The rusty slightly broken down playground was also abandoned. This park was bigger than most though, and included more than just a playground. There was also a walking path and a dirty looking lagoon. I was pretty sure I could spot a couple on the lagoon, their boat bobbing in the murky green water. Other than that though we were on our own.
"Hold this yeah?" Frank offered me a navy blue blanket while trying to balance a two baskets. I quickly took the blanket from him before he dropped everything. From what I could tell me we were gonna have a picnic. Frank situated the picnic baskets carefully, allowing him to grab hold of my hand. I grasped it and gave it a squeeze. He squeezed back twice before giving me a grin. "Follow me!"
We cut across the grass in the direction of the lagoon. The sun was just about ready to set over the horizon, but not quite. I figured we had maybe a hour of daylight left. It really was a nice day out, and I was glad Frank planned something outdoors. I was suddenly jerked out of my thoughts by Frank dragging me towards the treeline.
I shot him a questioning face but he just giggled and continued to drag me toward the trees. I was pleasantly surprised when he guided me onto a weather worn path.
"I found it a while ago while I was exploring. It doesn't really go anywhere, but there's a space up ahead not to far." He seemed really excited about this place. We walked on for about five more minutes before he pulled me off the the walkway and into the brush.
"Ow!" I complained as I scratched my arm on a low hanging branch. This part of the woods was really populated with trees and bushes, making it difficult to move through. After countless scrapes and bruises and some minor curse words from both of us, we finally stumbled into a clearing. It wasn't big and just had a bunch of wild flowers scattered around at various spots. Still it was amazing.
"I know it's not much," Frank admitted setting down his baskets and stretching his arms out. "But I always liked it back here. Even with the unconventional entry. It's kinda away from it all." I nodded my agreement and kissed him.
"It's perfect," I assured him. He grinned, happy that I liked it, before he grabbed the blanket from my arms. After picking out a couple of stray thorns and twigs we laid it on the slightly damp grass. I sat next to him as he unpacked the first basket.
It contained dishes and silverware for him, and two thermoses, one empty and one full. I stared confused at the extra thermos for a moment but decided not to point it out. Next he unpacked the second basket. It was simple chinese takeout, which I'm presuming was for him. He also pulled out a clear plastic bag full of a red liquid.
Blood?
He blushed as he offered it to me. "I wasn't sure if you would like it or not. It is human blood." I felt my eyes go wide. "I didn't hurt myself or anyone else! I have a friend who works for Red Cross and is letting me have blood, no questions asked." I stared at him dumbfounded. He went to all this effort just so that we could eat together?
"Aw Frankie!" I cooed wrapping my arms around him. "You didn't have to do that!" He kissed my forehead and hugged me back.
"I wanted to." He paused again and blushed at his hands. "I can keep getting blood for you if you want. You wouldn't have to feed off of people anymore. You wouldn't have to think of yourself as a monster." He whispered the last part, and I felt my heart jump. He knew what I hated most about myself and he had tried to fix it.
"Oh my God Frankie! Yes! Thank you so much!" I gushed. I was happy. I hated feeding off of people and feeling like I shouldn't be allowed to live. Now here was my Frankie offering me a way out of that. A way to feed without guilt.
"You're welcome." He started serving the food, pouring my blood into the thermos and getting his chinese (vegetarian of course) onto a plate. We ate with only minimal conversation, just enjoying the others company.
"I wish Lindsey would leave you alone." Dinner had long since been finished, and the dirty dishes were all packed away. Frank and I had just been cuddling together on the blanket talking. The last couple of minutes had been silent though until Frank had spoken up.
I sighed. I really didn't want to spend time on our date discussing Lindsey, but I knew it was going to come up sooner or later. Plus Frank was scared so I felt it was my duty to reassure him.
"So do I Frank, but I swear I won't let her hurt you." He sighed this time and scooted closer to my side.
"I know it's just...why is she spacing everything out so far? Why isn't she just doing it all at once?" He asked a good question, one I had been debating lately myself. Everything had been spread out over a period of weeks. She could've had her revenge in a day, so why make it last so long?
"Maybe she just likes to put pressure on us," I suggested. She did like playing her little games. Maybe it was just a part of it, causing us to stress out over what she was gonna do next.
"Maybe..." He murmured. Suddenly he pulled himself up and connected our lips. I kissed him back eagerly, already pushing thoughts of Lindsey out of my mind. I swiped my tongue over his lip, and bit his lip ring. He moaned and opened up his mouth, allowing our tongues to meet. His grip tightened in my hair as I flipped him on his back, straddling him as the kiss heated up. He pulled away to breath, and I moved my mouth to his jaw, placing feather light kisses along it. It wasn't until I began sucking and nipping on his neck though that he moaned and bucked his hips up, meeting mine and causing a slight problem to form downtown.
I continued sucking on his neck until I found his sweet spot. I knew I had when he mewled beneath me and his breathing hitched. With a smirk I continued sucking on the spot, fully aware of the hickey I was causing.
My phone going off caused us both to halt. I grabbed the offending cock blocking device from my pocket and scowled at the caller ID.
Mikey

With a low growl of annoyance I flipped it open. This better be fucking good...
"What!" I spat, annoyed at having been interrupted. I instantly felt bad a second later when I heard a choked sob come from the other end of the phone.
"G-Gee h-h-he's d-dead," Mikey managed to say barely through his sobs. My heart clenched and I felt fear race through me. Frank was staring at me with wide eyes, obviously scared by my change in facial expressions.
"Who! Who's dead Mikey!" I yelled out starting to panic. I had a sinking gut twisting feeling that this was Lindsey's doing.

"Ray. He-he-he's dead!" Mikey burst into another fit of sobs and I dropped the phone.
