You're Beautiful To Me

Chapter Seventy Eight

I slouch back on the couch, making myself comfortable and I find an old cheesy horror movie playing on tv. Miles continues to chew and suck on the teething toy for a while, occasionally taking it out of his mouth to wave it in the air while he babbles up at me, making nonsense noises and giving me little smiles. I smile back down at him and poke my tongue out, watching him grab for it and turning it into a little game before he loses interest and I guide the toy back to his mouth. It takes a while but Miles' movements slow down and his eyes slip closed, his breathing evening out again. I wait a few minutes before gently pulling the toy from his mouth, sitting it beside us as I lay back and shift Miles around so he's curled up more on my chest, tightening my hold on him as I focus back on the tv, my eyes starting to feel heavy again. I'm woken a few hours later by Anna yelling "Dada" in my ear and I jump slightly as my eyes snap open and I see her standing beside us still in her pyjamas, her hair a mess and a huge smile on her face. "Hey cheeky" I greet her as she fists her hands in my shirt and says "Up" as she starts trying to climb up on the couch with me, Miles still curled up asleep on my chest so I help Anna up and shift him over as I help settle her on the other side of my chest. "Good morning baby, how are you today?" I ask and she lets out a little giggle as she says "My?" "He's still sleeping baby" I tell her and she nods her little head, climbing down off the couch again and toddling from the room. I drag myself up and cuddle Miles to my chest as I follow her, finding her in the kitchen where Frank is making breakfast and I watch her wrap herself around his legs as she announces "Hungee." "I know baby, daddy's almost done" he tells her gently as he stops what he's doing and turns to pick her up, spotting me and Miles as he stands back up again. "Hey you, where did you disappear to last night?" "Miles is teething so I was up with him for a while and we slept on the couch so you two could get some sleep." Frank frowns in concern as he sits Anna in her seat. "I didn't hear him cry, I would have helped." "He was just fussing, he's being pretty good about it so far" I tell Frank and he smiles and nods. "Think he'll sleep much longer?" He asks, gesturing to Miles and I smile as I say "I don't know, he was up for a while. I'm gonna put him down and I'll be back." Frank nods and turns back to what he's doing and as I leave the room I hear Anna say "Dada" in a very demanding tone.

Miles ends up sleeping through breakfast and just as I'm finishing my scrambled eggs I hear him start screaming but Frank stands, pressing a soft kiss to the top of my head before saying "I'll get him." He leaves the room and I remain at the table while Anna finishes her own eggs. "Dada" she says as she drops her spoon, her arms raised ready to be picked up so I round the table and grab a towel, cleaning her face and hands while she whines in protest and says "No, no dada" but she quietens down again when I drop the towel and pick her up. We go into the living room where Anna toddles over to her toy shelf, grabbing her teddy bear and a book before coming back over to me and when she hands me the book she says "Nee" and I look at which story it is and realise it's one about a bunny. "You wanna read the bunny story baby?" I ask and she nods as she stands infront of me, her teddy in one arm and the other is stretched up towards me. "Ok, come up here" I tell her as I wrap my hands around her waist and pick her up, letting her get comfortable in my lap before I open the book and we make it two pages in before Frank carries a crying Miles into the room and I stop reading to look up at him. "He doesn't want to eat" Frank tells me looking concerned so I sit the book down and reach out to grab the teething toy and gel from the table beside the couch. Miles spots me and tries to flip himself out of Franks arms to get to me so he comes over and starts to hand him to me when Anna hits at my chest and says "Dada." "I'm sorry baby we'll finish the story in a second, Miles has an owie right now" I tell her, trying to get her to understand and she frowns in concern as she watches me take Miles onto the other side of my lap and she reaches out one arm to point in his face as she says "Stop My." Frank lets out a little chuckle and I shake my head, a small smile on my own face as I offer her the teething toy and say "You wanna see if he wants this?" She takes the non gelled part of the toy and looks at it in curiosity so I take her wrist and guide it to Miles' mouth where he latches on and starts chewing at it, his cries slowly dying down to soft whimpers and Anna lets go of the toy to sit back and clap her hands, letting out a delighted little giggle. "There we go baby boy" I say softly as I lean down to press a soft kiss to the top of his head and Anna gets my attention again by saying "Nee dada" and pointing to the discarded book beside us and I smile at her as I say "Maybe daddy will read the rest to us" looking up at Frank and he nods and comes over to sit beside us. I angle my body so we are more facing him so Anna can see the book, both her and Miles contentedly curled up in my lap as Frank starts where we left off and Anna leans in against my chest as she stares at the pages wide eyed, listening to Frank read the story while I keep glancing down at Miles who continues to make soft whines every now and then, wanting to make him feel better.

Notes

So I added pictures of Anna and Miles to the characters....I don't know if that's creepy or not?

... that was so well written from start to finish <3 well done on finishing it so beautifully & thanks for making the whole plot so real! xoxo

I like the happy ending, but the sad ending fits more with the story. I will admit that the sad ending did make me cry.

I read both endings and as much as I wish it was happier, the sad ending fits best. I think it's too sudden for everything to just become happy and perfect again. It would have been nice to see a better outcome for Alice in the last one though.
