Best Friends Forever, But Not Now

If You Say Goodbye Today

The day after we cleaned Bert’s apartment, disaster struck.
Frank and I were both hot messes.
Cherry, Bandit, and Lindsey were in a head-on collision with a drunk driver.

I woke up to the sound of both my phone and Frank’s phone ringing, so I answered mine.

“Hello?” I asked, waiting for a response.

“This is Silver Lake Medical Center. Your wife and daughter are in the Emergency Room, sir.”

“What?! Are they okay? What happened?!” I panicked.

“They were in a car accident.” She said. “A little girl named Cherry Iero was also with them. Your wife is in critical condition and your daughter broke quite a few bones and she’ll need to be in a wheelchair for about two months until her legs heal.”

I covered my mouth with my hands and started crying. “I’ll be there immediately!” I walked over to Frank, “Frank! Cherry, Bandit, and Lindsey got into a car accident! We have to go now!”

Frank hopped out of bed a shocked expression on his face. “What happened?!”

“I’ll explain in the car, we’ve gotta go!”

We drove down to the hospital in my car and I told Frank what happened. He sat there in pure shock, confused with what had happened. He listened to his phone’s voicemail and laid back in his seat, unable to feel or do anything. Once we got to the ER, he bolted towards the entrance.

“Frank Iero, father of Cherry Iero. What room?!” He asked.

“Room 209! Her mother’s in there as well!” The secretary responded. He bolted down the hall.

“I’m Gerard Way, my wife and daughter are here. Lindsey Way and Bandit Way?” I asked, twitching nervously.

“Bandit is in room 210 and her mother is in 103. Her mother is unconscious so I’d recommend seeing Bandit first.” The woman responded, biting her lip. I ran after Frank, hoping to make it to Bandit’s room quickly.

“Bee?” I asked, hoping for Bandit to respond.

“Daddy?!” She greeted. “What happened?!”

Tears fell off my cheeks. “Your mom’s hurt really bad. You’re gonna be in a wheelchair for a month or two.” Her eyes widened.

“Go ask the nurse if she can let me visit Mommy!” She yelled.

I walked over to a nurse walking by, “My daughter needs to know if she can visit her mom down in 103, is that possible?”

“Of course, how long has your daughter been here?”

“I don’t know, she and her mom were in an accident a few hours ago?”

“Okay, so she’ll have to stay in her bed during the visit, but I’ll go tell her doctor.” The woman walked away and I directed myself back towards Bandit.

“The nurses said you can see your mom!” I announced.

“Thank you, Dad!” She yelled.

An older man came in and told me he was her doctor, told me the route we’d have to take to see Lindsey, and led Bandit and me down the hall, where I caught a glimpse of Frank holding Cherry’s hand and crying like hell. I wanted to hug him and comfort him more than anything, but my family needed me right now.

“Here we are, she’s still asleep, but you can sit next to her bed if you’d like.” The doctor said.

“Oh god, Lindsey.” I balled. “I’m sorry I was such an idiot! I’m sorry I hurt you!”

Bandit stared at me as I cried, a confused look on her face. “Dad, why isn’t Mommy awake?”

Tears filled my eyes. “She’s just asleep, Bee, don’t worry.”

Lindsey looked like she was waking up for a moment, and I ran towards the hall. “NURSE! She’s awake!” I screamed.

A nurse bolted into the room to realize she was having a seizure. They held her down while a doctor checked her temperature. “She’s overheated! Get me lots of ice!” A doctor yelled.

“What’s happening to Mom?!” Bandit yelled.

Cancer - My Chemical Romance

It was so hard to write this chapter and I'm having a hard time writing the next. I feel like killing characters kills me and it's so painful to write.
