Incompletable Truth
Gerard pushed his hair out of his face with the hand that wasn't holding the cigarette. He crouched down and sat on the wet concrete.
"What are you doing? It's raining, "I questioned him and watched as the water puddle around his legs.
"Well I'm sitting, obviously." He responded with a sarcastic tone. "-and I can see it's raining. I like the rain. It's pretty." Gerard looked up at the sky, squinting slightly so the raindrops didn't fall into his eyes.
"Why, it just soaks your clothes and makes everything smell weird?" I was stood with my hood up over my face, shying away from the falling water.
"And that's why I like it, because nobody else does." Gerard looked me in the eyes and smiled again, his midnight coloured fringe clung to his forehead.
"You're weird." I muttered, just about in hearing range.
"Thank you." Gerard smirked like I'd told a joke, looking back at the sky. "Just come and sit here, you're acting like you're allergic to the rain or something. It's no big deal, just a little water." He patted the spot several times and I eventually gave in, sitting down beside him. "Why are you so hostile?" Gerard turned to face me as he completely changed the subject.
"Wow, that was sudden. What is this? 21 questions?" I snorted at my joke but Gerard just sighed bluntly. I didn't really have an answer, I just was. Maybe it came from growing up. Maybe it's because it's all I knew. "Anyway, I just met you. I'm not going to just open up to you whenever you ask." I said eventually, pushing away the question. Now that I was closer, I could see how pretty Gerard really was. Not handsome or hot, pretty was the only suitable word I thought. He had this child-like virtue to him and it was almost endearing to see him drain the smoke out of a cigarette. He ran his fingers through his hair, revealing the copper roots. I watched a raindrop as it cascaded down his cheek and off his jaw. He looked at me again and I noticed the eyeliner that lined his eyes, smudged slightly from the water, just like mine.
"You're looking at me funny again." He remarked and I quickly turned away when I realised he was right.
"No I'm not." I suddenly noticed how close we had moved together and I shuffled up off the floor, straightening my shirt.
"I need to go, but it was nice talking, Way." I said hurriedly as I reached for my bag.
"Yeah, you too." Gerard replied distantly and I couldn't tell if he sounded disappointed or he just was focussed on the rain, but for some reason I hoped it was the first one. It was unusual for me, but I liked the idea of someone enjoying my company.
