Common People
Observations
"Are you coming then" I smirked as I watched Gerard look at me, dumbstruck. I studied over his facial features. His ivory skin clashed against his sooty hair that framed his viridescent eyes and his crumpled clothes hung off of his body awkwardly. And yet I still found myself finding him attractive. He wasn't some magazine model but he was attractive, I could admit that.
He caught up after me and I realised that I hadn't stopped staring. "What are you looking at?" He asked innocently as he rearranged his hair. He looked up at me with those eyes and I felt goosebumps appear on my arms. I glanced away quickly.
"Who cares" I muttered back, shuddering off the feeling. It's not that I'm gay, it's not that I'm anything really. I just don't like people, I try to avoid them. I guess I was just used to telling myself that it's okay to die alone, because I knew I was going to. I don't know what you call that.
"C'mon, I'll show you around. What classes do you have?" He walked with me while handing over his timetable and I took it from him.
"Pretty similar to me, not that I go to the classes though." I nodded after scanning over it quickly, trying to work out in my head which class I was supposed to take him to.
"Don't you get in trouble?" He asked, and I wasn't sure if the flicker in his eyes was shock or admiration.
"Yes, but like I care" I laughed. "Now come on, teachers boy. I take it you want to know where your classes are."
"Excuse me?" Gerard stopped walking when he spoke, raising his voice. It made me smile slightly, seeing someone who had such a soft innocent face snarl was almost refreshing, I wasn't sure why. I ignored the feeling, I wasn't going to let myself like him.
"Oh, pretty boy has a mean side" I snickered, purposely fueling his anger.
"You know what, you're an idiot. I think I'm going to find someone else to show me around." He proclaimed before he snatched back his timetable and walked around the corner.
"Welcome to Hargrove Academy!" I hollered after him sarcastically. At least he was off my back for now, although I couldn't help but feel a little guilty.
I walked out of the fire exit to the back of the school where I pulled a metal zippo lighter out of my pocket and lit up a cigarette. I liked smoke much more than people, it was warm and it made me feel calm. I liked the way it twisted and curled in the sharp air, it was much prettier than any person I'd ever seen. When I was done I put it out with my shoe. It had started to rain and my hair was slightly damp, sticking to the back of my neck slightly.
Someone walked around the corner and I realised that it was a face I had just seen a few moments ago."You change your mind, kid?" I scoffed. Gerard laughed, but it was short and humourless.
"I was looking for somewhere to smoke, but I'll go somewhere else" The end of the sentence increased in pitch, like he was saying it as if it was a question. He fumbled around awkwardly while I studied him.
"No, stay, I was about to go anyway." I finally said as Gerard rooted around in his pocket, swearing under his breath.
"I forgot my lighter." He sighed. I gave him mine to borrow, after all it's only his first day, I'll cut him some slack. Anyway, it was nice to have a pretty face around here from time to time. Not that I would ever tell him that.
"You getting soft, Mr Hostile?" He jeered just like I had done a few moments before.
"Don't test me, Way."
