Common People

I found Gerard sitting in a stairwell. He didn't see me walking over and he jumped up when I sat down next to him.

"It's just me, it's fine." I reached out and grabbed his arm, turning him towards me.

"Oh" He whispered before sitting back down. I looked up at him and he stared back at me with glassy eyes, his shoulders shaking like he was going to burst into tears again. "Talk to me" He sniffled as he spoke.

"Okay, what about?" I asked him.

"I don't mind. I just want to think about other stuff." He turned away again, looking at the floor.

"I have a better idea." I got up off of the stairs and reached my hand out for Gerard to grab. He shied away, leaning back from me and I realised that it had sounded like I'd made an advance. "Not that kind of idea, you ass. Now come on, I want to show you a place." I corrected myself and moved my hand closer to Gerard, he took it and I pulled him up from his seat.

"Can you promise not to tell anyone about where we go?" Gerard nodded. "Pinkie promise?" I held out my pinkie finger and gestured for him to do the same.

"What are you? A six year old girl?" He laughed but locked his with mine anyway. After we let go I grabbed his hand properly again and pulled him away from the stairs and out of the door.

"Where are we going?" He asked, with an excited tone to his voice.

"You'll see when we get there." Gerard stumbled a little and so I slowed down my pace and let him catch up a bit. I stopped in front of a dirty wooden fence and pulled Gerard towards me.
"Watch this." I instructed as I pushed aside one of the loose wooden panels. I walked through the gap first and Gerard followed soon after.

"Wow" He breathed out with a smile. We were standing in a forest, completely swamped with pine tress and wild flowers. The sunlight in certain areas was pooling through the trees and the viridescent leaves contrasted perfectly against the cerulean sky.

"It's pretty isn't it?" We sat down on the dirt underneath a tree. "I don't come here a lot, I feel like if I do I'll start taking it for granted."

"No, I don't think you can take beauty like this for granted." Gerard turned to me and he grinned and I did back.

I looked up into the clouds and let the light dance across my face. We just sat there in silence for a while, taking in our surroundings. When you're in a place like this you don't need to talk. This place felt so different to home or school, it was quiet but not the bad kind and it was empty but at the same time not at all and it gave me solace when I needed it.

Everything was nice until I remembered the time.

"Gerard we need to get back now." Gerard's face fell and he started to panic a little. "We don't have to talk to Mikey, but we need to go back. You left your bags behind."

"Promise you'll bring me here tomorrow?" Gerard asked with an imploring look in his eyes.

"Its Saturday tomorrow, we wont be in school and I don't know another way here." I sighed and I felt almost guilty for it.

"Do you want to come over to my house, I'll order some pizza and we can watch a movie or something?" He sounded a bit calmer, but still upset.

"Of course, you think I can turn down pizza." He laughed quietly and stood up, holding a hand out for me to grab. I took it and he pulled me up off the ground.

"What if Mikey's still there?" Gerard stopped walking and I turned to face him.

"You have to talk to him at some point, he's your brother." I told him but still tried to sound sympathetic, though it probably sounded more sarcastic than anything else.

"I know." He said sadly under his breath.

i really dont like this chapter much and it seems like a bit of a filler right now but its important in the story later on so im just getting it over with
