I See You Lying Next to Me

Chapter Nine

The day dragged on the same as yesterday as I continued to hide my bruised face. Mr. Iero said it would be okay to leave my hoodie on since I felt uncomfortable without it. “Alright class now don’t forget to do the homework that’s due tomorrow!” Mr. iero announced as the bell had rung for the last period of the day. I sighed in relief as the day was finally over. Once everyone had finally left, I remained in my seat as I packed away all my school supplies into my bag. I then brought my head up to see Mr. Iero’s eyes on me. “So what do you wanna do kid?” He asked as he swung his legs to the right side of his chair. “Um I don’t know.” I stuttered. “Well we can work on the homework form yesterday if you want? I already emailed your parents to let them know that you would be spending time with me after class.” He explained. I nodded. “Yeah that would be good.” I said as he gave me a new copy of the worksheet and pulled up a chair to my desk. “So what problems did you have the most trouble on?” He questioned as he lifted his eyes to face me. I shrugged. “I guess I had a little trouble on problem two.” I muttered. He then began to show me the basic steps as I couldn’t help but focus on his lips as he continued to talk. “Gerard, are you paying attention?” I quickly snapped out of my trance as my face began to grow a dark shade of red. Could he have noticed that I was looking at him? “Here how bout we just skip the homework and just hang out for a while.” He offered with a kind smile. “You mean I don’t have to do the homework?” He chuckled. “I mean you can if you really want to, but I’m not really in the mood plus it seems to me as if you understand everything.” I nodded. “Ok then lets hang out then.” He got up from the seat he was sitting in and stood next to my desk. “So what do you wanna do Gerard?” He asked, tapping his tattooed fingers onto the desk. “Um I don’t know I guess-“”You wanna listen to some music?” He excitedly interrupted. “Sure! What kind of music do you have?” I questioned as he walked over to his radio in the front of the classroom. “I have all kinds. What’s your favorite band? I’ll play them.” I thought for a second. “I guess I would have to say Smashing Pumpkins.” He giggled. “I could see that from your shirt.” He said, motioning towards my Smashing Pumpkins band tee that I had bought from Hot Topic. He then reached for one of the albums in his drawer as he pulled out the one he was looking for. My eyes immediately lit up as the song 1979 began to blast through the speakers. We then began to both sing along as it got to the chorus. I finally stopped singing as I noticed Mr. Iero smirking at me. “What?” I asked. He shrugged. “I don’t know you’re just a really good singer” I blushed. “Thanks.” After several songs later, we then just began to laugh and talk about random shit. “So Mr. Iero- I mean Frank, you never told me what your favorite band is.” He bit his lip as he began to think. I gulped as I couldn’t help but think how attractive he looked when he did that. “I guess I would have to say Black Flag.” He said, his smile never leaving his face. “Oh I love them!” I exclaimed cheerfully. “Yeah so do you have any hobbies?” He asked fiddling with his lip ring. I could feel myself sweat as he just looked so damn attractive. “Well I read a lot of comics and draw.” He nodded. “Yeah you seem like the artistic type.” I couldn’t tell whether he meant that in a good way or a bad way, but by the way he was smiling at me I’m sure he meant it in a good way. “Well are you artistic in any way?” I questioned him. He shook his head. “No, trust me I can’t draw for shit, but my girlfriend used to be really good at it.” I immediately felt my heart sink into my stomach. Of course he had to be taken. “Girlfriend?” I choked, my eyes beginning to water. “Well ex-girlfriend. I dumped her sorry ass last night at dinner.” I furrowed my eyebrows. “Why did you break up with her? If you don’t mind me asking.” He shrugged. “Well she was just really annoying and she wasn’t exactly the most loyal girl around.” I nodded in understanding. “So does that mean-“”I’m straight? No.” My eyes widened at his comment. “That was what you were going to ask right?” I could feel my face growing hot. “Well I-I guess.” Before he could say anything else he was interrupted by his cellphone ringing obnoxiously. He groaned loudly as he went to check who it was. “Speaking of the devil.””Is it her?” He nodded. “Yep she’s been trying to reach me all day.” He grumbled. “I’m sorry.” I muttered sympathetically. “Nah don’t be sorry, you didn’t do a thing kid.” He replied patting my knee. I shivered at the feel of his touch. “But I do think it’s getting kind of late, so I think we’d better get you home so your parents don’t get angry.” I agreed. “Do you need a ride or anything?” He asked politely. “No its ok, I’ll walk home.” He shook his head. “No let me drive you it’s the least I can do.” I gave in. “Okay I guess my parents wouldn’t mind.” He smiled. “Alright great, let me just lock up the classroom and we can head off."

After a short drive to my house, Mr. Iero had waved goodbye to me as I finally entered through the front door. “Oh hey Gerard, you’re just on time for dinner!” My mother chimed. “Great what are we having?” I asked getting a plate form the cabinet. “Meatloaf.” I groaned. “Oh come on my meat loaf isn’t that bad.” My mother replied as she gave me a large plate full of the disgusting meat. “Who’s that who was in our driveway and just left?” Mikey asked as he entered the kitchen. “Oh that was just my teacher, Mr. Iero.” I explained. “Oh your teacher gave you a ride? “I nodded. “Yeah he thought it was the least he could do for how hard I've been working.” I beamed. “Well that’s great honey he seems like a nice gentleman.” My mother cooed. Mikey scoffed. “Please, I bet you he just feels bad for you since you don’t have any friends.” Mikey teased. I just wanted to punch him right here and there. “Shut up!” I yelled back at him. “Gerard Arthur Way, do not speak to your brother like that! I have told you too many times.” I groaned. “But did you even hear what he just said mom?!” I exclaimed. “Yes, but it doesn’t make it right for you to talk to him like that. You two are brothers, and you have to be nice to one another.” I sighed. “Fine, whatever.” As we all finally sat down at the dinner table, my mother began to speak again. “Gerard, I was thinking that in return for your teacher for being so helpful, you should invite him over for dinner tomorrow night.” I almost choked on my water as she said that. “Why would I want to do that?” I remarked. “Because it seems as he’s done a lot for you, so it would just be a thanks for what he’s done.” I eventually just gave in as I didn’t want to start another argument. “Fine, I’ll talk to him tomorrow about it…” She smiled. “Great, now eat! You’ve barely touched your food.” I pushed the plate away. “I’m not all that hungry. “I lied as I walked away from the table and headed upstairs to be alone and away from my family.
