I See You Lying Next to Me
Chapter Seven
***Frank’s POV***
The end of the day came by fast as I made sure to wave goodbye to Gerard. I just felt so bad after all that he had told me earlier and I really wished there was something I could do to help him. As I continued to sit alone in my small classroom, I began to feel my phone vibrate. I then pulled out my cell to see that Tess was calling me. I sighed as I finally answer it. “Hello?” I spoke in an annoyed tone. “Frankie, where the fuck are you?” She angrily replied. “What the hell are you going on about?” I asked, pulling out a cigarette and beginning to light it. “Our date? Did you really forget about our dinner date tonight?” I immediately choked on the smoke. “Our d-date? Of course I didn’t forget babe!” I lied. “Ok well where are you then?” She asked impatiently on the other line. “I’m on my way, I’ll be there in a few minutes.” I said as I quickly hung up the phone and collected my stuff to leave. I then finally locked the classroom door and walked out to my station wagon which was parked out in the staff parking lot. As I was unlocking my car, I noticed Gerard walking in the distance. He must have been walking home. I wanted to call out to him or something but I was in a rush to make it to the restaurant on time so I just hopped in my car and drove off.
Once I had finally arrived at the fancy restaurant, I quickly headed inside and searched for the table Tess was sitting at. At first it was hard to find her but then she caught my eye as she was waving towards me. I sighed as I made my way to the table. She immediately looked me up and down and frowned. “What’s wrong babe?” I asked while forcing a smile. “You’re still in your work clothes…”She scoffed. “I’m sorry hun, I was held back at work with some kid so I didn’t have time to change. Will you forgive me please?” She crossed her arms. “I guess…” I smiled largely. “Alright so what are we gonna eat?” She scanned over the menu. “Well I’m just going to order the side salad.” She cooed as I lifted my eyes off of my menu to face her. “A side salad? That’s all you’re going to eat?” I asked concerned. She nodded. “Frank you know I’m on my special diet right now.” I groaned. “You’re going to starve yourself. I’m ordering you a New York steak.” I spoke sternly. “Frank that will ruin my diet!” She whined. “I don’t care about your diet, I care about you. So for the sake of your health, I’m ordering for you.” She sighed in defeat as she crossed her bony legs. “Fine…” As I finally decided what I would order for myself, a young waiter had arrived at our table. The waiter then pulled out a sketch pad and a pencil. “And what would the lovely couple like to order this evening?” The waiter asked politely. “I’ll have the cheese burger and the lady will have your largest Steak.” I looked back at her to see her looking the waiter up and down. “Alright, I will be back with your food shortly!” The waiter exclaimed as he flashed Tess a smile. I rolled my eyes as I handed him my menu and watched him take off. “So it seemed as if you were eyeing the waiter.” I began. She gave me a shocked look. “No I wasn’t!” She yelled. “mhmm.” “I wasn’t Frank! Stop being so jealous all the time.” I rolled my eyes once again at her comment. “If that’s what you wanna call it, then fine.” I laughed. “Frank will you ever just forgive me about the whole thing! It was forever ago.” She pleaded. “I don’t know…you hurt me Tess yet you continue to hit on every guy you see.” Her face fumed with anger. “Frankie I don’t hit on anyone! I told you it was a mistake, and I’m sorry for it.” I rubbed the back of my neck as all I wanted to do was end this date. “Well you still cheated behind my back, and I don’t know if I can live with that…” I muttered. “What is that supposed to mean?” She questioned. I sighed. “It means that I can’t do this anymore…We’re done…” Her mouth flew wide open. “Are you just going to leave then?” I nodded. “Yep…Goodbye Tess.” I said grabbing my jacket. “But what about me? Are you just going to leave me here alone to pay the check?” Her eyes began to water up. I then reached into my wallet and pulled out a hundred. “Here’s for the check.” I said as I handed her the money and left the restaurant with confidence.
