I See You Lying Next to Me
Chapter Two
I was immediately woken up by water being dumped on me. My eyes fluttered open to see Mikey standing above my bed to where I was laying. “What the fuck was that for?!” I shouted as a large grin spread across his face. He was holding a large bucket of water that he used to get me wet. “Mom said I had to wake you up.” He said, snickering. “Well you didn’t have to dump all that water on me, you could have just nudged my shoulder or knocked.” I replied as I tugged off the damp blankets. “Well I thought this would be more fun.” He said, his smirk never leaving his face. My face grew red with anger as he continued to laugh on. “You better dry up little bro so you’re not late to school.” He mocked, as he threw more of the water onto me. “Fuck you!” I screamed loudly. Right when I had said that my mother had walked into the room. “Gerard! Don’t talk to your brother like that!” She scowled until she saw how I was damp from head to toe. “Oh dear. Gerard, why are you all wet?” My mother asked in a concerning tone. Before I could explain, Mikey interrupted me. “I guess that he had some nice dreams last night. “He replied, his grin growing wider than ever. “Shut up! I didn’t have any wet dreams last night, Mikey threw-“ As I was finally going to explain, my mother but in. “Well I don’t care what happened, but I can’t have you going to school with you all wet like that, so please dry up quickly and get dressed cause I have to drive Mikey to school soon. She ordered as they both left the room. God, I fucking hate him…

After 20 minutes of getting myself dry and dressed, I headed down the stairs and out to the car to where my mom and Mikey were waiting. As we finally drove off, Mikey then began to put on his favorite sports station. I groaned as he would always play this station in the car. “Mom?” I called from the backseat. “Yes, Gerard?” She asked, keeping her focus on the road. “Can we please listen to MY station?” I pleaded. “No one wants to listen to your crappy music, Gerard.” Mikey teased. “Nirvana is not crappy music!-““Gerard, you don’t need to raise your voice!” My mom yelled back at me. “Treat your brother with respect and let him listen to whatever station he wants to listen to.” I sighed as I knew that he would always get his way. “But-““No more arguing, now get out of the car, we’re here.” She spoke as we parked in front of the school. My eyes widened as it looked much bigger than what I thought it would be. As we both got out, Mikey went the opposite way to go hang out with his friends on the football team and his cheerleader girlfriend. I stood there mindlessly as I didn’t know where to go. I looked down at my watch to see that I had 10 minutes before my first class would start, so in the meantime I walked over to what I suppose was the front office and got my schedule. AS I took a look at who my teachers were, I was confused to see that I had the same teacher for each class. I then turned around to the lady at the front desk. “Um miss?” I asked as her head shot up to look at me. “Yes?” “Why do I have the same teacher for all my classes?” I asked politely. “That’s because you are in the IB program so you will be spending each class with our finest tutor, Mr. Iero.” She explained. “Oh, ok thank you.” I spoke as I finally headed out of the front office and down the hall to where my classroom was. On the closed door of the classroom it read the teacher’s name. I furrowed my eyebrows as I tried to practice pronouncing his name correctly. “ee-er-oh, i-er-oh?” As I continued to practice pronouncing the name, the classroom door immediately swung open to reveal a young man who seemed to be in his mid-twenties. His body was covered in colorful tattoos and his hair hung above his vibrant, hazel eyes. “Hello, you must be the new student.” He greeted reaching out a hand as I nervously shook it. “Y-yes…” I gulped as he began to look me up and down. I notice that he was casually dressed as he wore a black, cotton T-shirt with tight, skinny jeans, and bright, red converse. “Do you have a name?” He asked chuckling a pot laugh. “G-Gerard…” I stuttered nervously. “Ah ok I remember now. Well it’s nice to meet you Gerard, I’m your new teacher, Mr. Iero.” He spoke in a cheerful tone. “Y-you’re my teacher?” I asked, giving him a confused look. “Yeah, I know I look young, but I’ve had a lot of experience, so please do come in!” He exclaimed as he led me into the classroom. As I turned to face the class, everyone’s eyes were on me. I then began to feel the shivering touch of Mr. Iero’s hand on my shoulder. “Everyone I would like you to meet your new classmate, Gerard.” He announced loudly over the side-conversations the students were having. I then began to hear my name mentioned in some of the whispers. “Hey faggot! What school did you come from?” Some muscular kid, sitting in the back called out. “Austin! We do not greet our new students in that matter!” Mr. Iero scolded. He then looked down at me as he could obviously tell I was extremely jumpy, and nervous. “So what school did you come from?” He asked observing me with soft eyes, as I began to feel his hand travel down to my lower back. “I-I was h-homeschooled.” I mumbled quietly under my breath. “I’m sorry I couldn’t hear you, could you speak up a little bit?” Mr.Iero spoke in a sweet tone. “I was homeschooled.” I spoke louder for the second time. Before my teacher could say anything, the same boy in the back spoke up again. “Oh so the queer was homeschooled!” He commented, followed by several laughs from other students in the classroom. I looked up at Mr. Iero to see his smile had vanished, and was replaced with a stern expression. “Austin, head down to the office while you pick up a slip to have detention with me after school today.” Mr.Iero replied in a serious tone. The boy then groaned as he got out of his seat and headed out the classroom door. Mr. Iero then gave me a sympathetic look. “I’m sorry about that-“I immediately interrupted him. “It’s fine…” He then met my eyes as he continued on. “He didn’t mean to call you a faggot, he-“”He’s not wrong…” I mumbled. “I’m sorry, what?” He questioned. “He’s not wrong about me being a faggot…” There was then a slight awkward tension between us before he continued to speak again. “Oh I see…Well how bout you go find a seat so we can start off the new lesson and we can just forget that all that happened. Alright?” I nodded. “Alright, well you are welcomed to sit anywhere you like.” He offered with a smile. “Thanks.” I replied as I walked down to the nearest seat to Mr. Iero’s desk. I kept my head facing down as he began with the new math lesson. I didn’t really pay attention or volunteer to speak at all during his teaching, so I began to daydream until the first class was over.
