Save Yourself, I'll Hold Them Back
Mama, We All Go to Hell
I was lying in bed wide awake while Gerard was sleeping. I was staring up at the stained white ceiling, waiting for my eyes to close.
Hey, Frankie.
I sat up to find Ray-or at least I thought it was Ray. He had bunny ears, big two front teeth, and he was wearing a black band suit. His fro was still in tact, so it had to be Ray. He said, Come here.
I trust Ray, so why not? I climbed down my bunk slowly, trying not to wake up Gee. I looked over my shoulder to glance at Gee who was facing his back to me. He was sleeping soundly, I can tell by the way his body rose and fell softly. I whispered to him even though he was unconscious, "I'll be back, Gee."
Ray begun to leave without me, which irritated me. I rushed after him, trying to catch up, but he kept making sharp turns around corners. I whispered aggressively, "Ray!" I groaned in frustration and tried to follow him, but I stopped suddenly.
There was a single caterpillar standing in my way. I scoffed before stepping on it. Even if it was my sneaker who did all the crushing, I felt like it was part of my bare foot who did it for some reason...I heard a soft moan from down the hall. I looked up slowly to find something crawling towards me. I took a step forward, peering at the dark figure, "Hello?" I whispered.
The soft moaning stopped and the figure had stopped moving.
I swallowed nervously. This was my schizophrenia acting up, and I know it. I just need to get back to the room and turn on the music-but I was stuck. Like I want to run but I felt like something was holding me back...I looked down to my feet to find nails dug deep through my foot into the ground below me. Blood was rushing out, the pain was excruciating. I felt a single tear fall out my eye, I cried softly as the moaning was starting again. It echoed down the hall toward me. I looked up and found something deeply disturbing. It proved that my mind was filled with a dark imagination and that my imagination of Alice in Wonderland can turn into a dark thought.
A child, who looked like me, was crawling toward me. He moaned as he picked at his brain, tossing the pieces on the ground. His eyes were a glassy hazel. He was wearing a black band suit just like the others in my imagination. His hands were covered in blood from the brain picking and his brain was exposed.
I wanted to hug him honestly. Not in a creepy child molestor way, but in a way that I grieve for him. He looked like me, he really did.
He stopped and looked at me blankly. He blinked a few times before pointing behind me. I looked over my shoulder to find Dr. Laguna.
He said, "What the hell are you doing out of your room?"
There was a heavy weight that brushed off my shoulders. I looked down to find no nails dug into my feet. I looked down the hallway to find no little boy. Again, Dr. Laguna asked, "What the hell are you doing out of your room?"
I scratched the back of my head, "I-I heard something...and I saw something."
A hand tugged at my arm. Dr. Laguna pulled me around the corners and lectured, "All patients must stay in their rooms after ten. If not, they are required a harsh punishment to prevent anymore future disappointments."
"Wait-what are you going to do?"
He didn't reply. He tugged at my arm aggressively into the same place where I was "studied".
I pulled back and screamed, "No! No! No!" I pulled away from his grasp, but before I could run he yanked on my hair. He pulled hard enough for me to feel daggers on my scalp. He was pulling so hard he was pulling off hairs. I screamed out, but I wasn't going back in there. Not with this crazy maniac.
I turned around swiftly and bit into his arm. He yelled out, tightening his jaw. I bit deeper into the skin until he finally released. I gave no hesitation to run. I ran down the hall and turned a corner. I can hear him running after me, "Get back here!" He screamed.
I glanced over my shoulder to find him next to an alarm. He grinned before yanking the lever down. A loud, irritating alarm rang throughout the halls. I swallowed nervously but kept running. And as if it were a cliché movie, I tripped. My body slammed against the ground, sending a sharp sting throughout my body. I groaned as I heard footsteps in every direction around me. I groaned when someone lifted me off the ground onto my two feet.
Two big staff were holding me up while Patrick faced me. He sighed, "Dr. Laguna told me you tried to escape-"
"Wait, no-" I groaned.
He raised his hand, "I expected more from you, Frank."
"No! I didn't try too! He's evil! He did surgery on me! I swear! Look at my head, it has stitches!"
Patrick hushed me, "We know, we know. The thing is, we do studies on the people who stand out. You should feel wonderful, Frank. You're special." He grinned.
"You're...you're a part of it? It's illegal! You can't do this!"
Patrick looked at the two men, "Take him back to his room."
As the men dragged me away, my heart was beating so fast. I couldn't stay here. I needed to leave. I can't be held like a caged animal waiting to be experimented on. I can't stay here knowing that the staff are as crazy as the patients are.
