Tragic Affair
Comic Book Romance
CASS
We walked into Gerard/Mr. Way’s office. He tossed me a David Bowie tee shirt.
“Nice. Bowie is real cool.” I said. “Now turn around.” I said, taking off my shirt, feeling his eyes burning into my back. “Stop being a creep. Turn around.” I heard his chair turn around and I slipped the shirt over my body. It pretty much swamped me but it was warm and not torn by some creep.
“So why was a crowd borderline raping a new kid? You got a good story to tell?” Gerard said.
“You aren’t a really serious teacher.” I said.
Gerard laughed. “Serious isn’t my strong suit. Now storytime.” I sat on his desk.
“Um. I used to go to this school. Till like the end of last May. I ran away. To New York. Stayed there, not going to school or doing anything. I was a waitress at a vegan/raw restaurant, smoked a lot, just kind of partied all summer and all september too. My mom and dad tracked me down through my cell I think and brought me home yesterday. That asshole out there used to be one of my friends. I don’t think he took my leaving very well.” I admitted.
“You smoke?” He asked.
“Seriously, that’s the best question you have after that whole story?”
“Hey, I was going to offer you a cigarette as a token of kindness but if you don’t want it-” He pulled a pack of Marlboro Lights out of his pocket.
“I want it.” Gerard tossed me a cigarette, and I put it in my bra.
“Not going to smoke it?” He asked me, teasing.
I rolled my eyes. “I’ve been smoking like a chimney for the past week. Some resistance would do me good.” He rolled his eyes. I walked around his office, finding a shelf covered in comic books.
“Comic books?” I asked.
“Comic books are awesome.” Gerard insisted.
“I’m more a novel type. Amazing characters, who everyone sees differently in their heads. It’s magic.” I said, flipping through a X-Men comic.
“And what novels do you love?”
“The Great Gatsby is terrific. Magical and real. But the best books I haven’t read yet. There’s always more, you know.” I had a sparkle in my eye. I loved books. Guilty pleasure.
“Yeah.” I kind of stared at Gerard a bit. He was a little taller then me, his dyed red hair was kind of shaggy, he had pretty hazel eyes, no ring on his finger so he wasn’t married.
“Oh please, just keep looking.” He teased. I smiled awkwardly.
“Gladly.” I replied, smirking.
“Cass, I’m still a teacher. Stop being a flirt.” Gerard said, trying to be serious.
I took an eraser off of his desk and threw it at him. “Then stop staring at me.”
“I’m just thinking of how much better I would look in that shirt instead of this button down crap.” He said, looking at his shirt, but muttering under his breath. “I mean how much better you would look without your shirt on.” And I totally heard him.
“I heard you.” I said.
“Well secrets out, you’re kind of hot. This really isn’t a shocker to anyone.” Gerard said rolling his eyes.
“You’re a teacher, supposed to be all professional and stuff. Not comment on how your students would look without a shirt on.” I joked.
“What’s going through my mind right now, Cass, wouldn’t be called professional.” He said standing up and walking up to me. “Plus I haven’t had you as a student yet so anything that happens now is merely coincidental.” His hand was on my jawline and he leaned in, sweet anticipation killing me. But before lips met lips, the bell rang, shocking us both.
“You should...uh, go to the office. Get your schedule, I guess.” Gerard got all nervous.
“Okay. To be continued?”
“I don’t know, maybe...?” Gerard said, I rolled my eyes and left. What the fuck? He was all flirty a second ago and then immediately became all nervous. Confusing.
I walked up to the office.
“Hey Mrs. Wells.” I said, smirking.
“So you’re really back?” Mrs. Wells, my favorite secretary answered. She hated everyone but I got sent to the office about every day so we became friendly.
“I am really back. Cass Lee Woodley. I need my schedule.” Mrs. Wells handed it to me.
“That’s either a new shirt or you met someone.” It still shocked me how Mrs. Wells knew everything. She was incredibly observant. “He’s definitely graduated high school.” My eyes widened.
“How do you know all that?”
“Cass, that shirt is like 6 sizes too big for you, so it’s not yours. Plus it doesn’t smell like Axe and it’s a David Bowie T-Shirt, so it’s someone a bit edgy.”
“And as always, you are spot on.” I said as Mrs. Wells handed me a schedule. Four classes a day, just like last year. And you have the same schedule every day until term 2, when you have to take some classes you didn’t take term one.
Period 1: AP English / Ms. Kerr
Period 2: Religious Studies / Mr. Willis
Period 3: Geography / Mrs. Hanakova
Period 4: Visual Art / Mr. Way
Well, I have an amazing term one.....similar to what I had last year. I hated maths and science and excelled in art and English. I was probably the least religious person ever so religious studies should be interesting.
I walked to English class quietly, humming Ziggy Stardust by David Bowie in my head. The shirt smelt really good, very Gerard. I’m not sure if I should think of him as Gerard or as Mr. Way but I liked Gerard better. It was more real, less perverted school teacher.
I sat in the back of English. The teacher was Mrs. Kerr; a smiley woman with short blonde hair and circular glasses. I ended up near a crowd of Brixton’s new friends; and Brixton.
“Slut.” One of them whispered. The rest giggled. “Cass, you should remember me. I’m the one you should be afraid of. I’ll ruin your rep faster than anyone else. I run the gossip mill.” I looked at her. Big boobs, brown hair, gold eyeshadow, black crop top and pink jeans. “I'm Penelope.”
“I don’t give a shit who you are, darling.” I replied. “Plus, I mean I’ve pretty much lost my rep anyways....I didn’t need your help on that one. I call you if I need your help though.” I smiled at her.
“You skank whore, Brixton, tell the bitch she doesn’t fuck with Penelope Williams.”
“Cass, don’t fuck with Penelope....she’s my friend now.” Brixton said nervously.
“Oh god Brix, they’ve really fucked you up. Tell my lovely new friend Penelope, not to fuck with Cass Lee Woodley.” I teased.
Someone knocked on the door. Mrs.Kerr went and opened it. Gerard stepped through the door.
“Mr. Way.” Mrs. Kerr answered, smiling at him, in a friendly way.
“Mrs. Kerr, sorry to interrupt you but I need to borrow Cass Lee Woodley for just a few moments.” Gerard smirked at me.
“Cass Lee Woodley?” Mrs. Kerr called.
I stood up and walked to the door.
“Sorry for taking up class time.” Gerard apologized to Mrs. Kerr.
“No worries.” Mrs. Kerr smiled and closed the door. Me and Gerard walked down the hall, to his office, in silence. He pushed me inside, locked the door, and pulled down the blinds.
“What the hell?” I asked.
“To be continued?” He smiled, in the most adorable way that I couldn’t resist. He pushed me against the door and our lips met. My hands ran through his red hair, his hands rested on my waist.
“Hey. Hold off.” I said, pushing his face an inch away from mine. “You can’t be all awkward one second and then horny the next. Too confusing. What do you want?” Gerard’s eyes widened slightly.
“I want you. The bell just reminded me you’re a student, which scared me.” Gerard smirked, leaning back for another steamy kiss. I found that answer sufficient and wrapped my arms around his neck.
After a couple minutes of us kissing, I had to pull away.
“Gerard...what are we doing?” I laughed, into another kiss.
“Having fun, Cass.” He smiled innocently.
“I have to get back to class.” I muttered, interrupted by another kiss.
“I have to get back to work. To be continued, again?” Gerard smiled apologetically. I rolled my eyes and put my hand in his pocket, finding his pack of cigarettes.
“You don’t get these back,” I said, waving them in his face, “until you find me after school and we make arrangements.” I winked, adjusted the shirt I had on, undid his tie, and left the office.
This guy was going to drive me crazy, obliterate my reputation, and lose his own job without even worrying. Should I be concerned, or should I just embrace the fun?
