The Only Hope For Me Is You

Chapter 2

I woke up the same way as yesterday – after all, why would today be any different? I brushed my teeth, washed and showered as usual, before I dressed and did my hair and make-up whilst dancing and singing to the random songs shuffle decided to play to me. Yes I was well aware I looked like a total noob.

Just as the chorus to Still YDG’n came on I snapped my iPod out from my dock and plugged my headphones in, before shoving the device into my pocket, grabbing breakfast and skating to work once again.

The weather outside was nice this morning. I’d realised I’ve never noticed the area I now lived in – since I only moved here a mere few months ago – but it was quite beautiful. As I passed a park I noticed a few school children enjoying the swing sets before they would be dragged off to school. It made me remember how I used to stall or try and earn more time each morning to enjoy the park by our old house, whilst my father would be chasing me around and laughing trying to get me to school. My vision blurred, and it dawned that I was crying. I guess it was too soon to talk about him, maybe a month or two from now. I wiped my eyes and realised I had gotten to the store.

“Thank you, come again.” I said as I rung up yet another customer’s orders. This time it was a BVB CD and shirt, with Hello Kitty badges and blacker-than-black eyeliner.

As I was organising the previous customer’s change I heard a small cough coming from in front of the counter, distracting me from my task.

“Hello, I’m Sky, how can I help you?” I looked up to see a man, slightly taller than me, and very handsome if I do say so myself. He had blonde hair coming from brown roots that would reach his ears if he hadn’t scraped it back, an angular face and a jawline and cheek bones to die for.

“Enjoying the view?” He teased, snapping me out of my thoughts and making me realise that I’d been staring at him for some time.

“Huh?” Oh nice one, Sky, real attractive.

“I asked if you knew where the Blink-182 CDs were,” he informed me before a smirk crept on his face and he added: “But you were clearly preoccupied with something…or someone.”

“Oh god, that’s so embarrassing. I’m so sorry!” I was certain my cheeks were bright red by now, “But yeah, the Blink CDs are over here. Follow me.”

“Thanks,” he mumbled, “This is a nice store”.

“Really?” I laughed, slightly confused. “Are you trying to make small talk or do you actually think this dump is nice?”

“Small talk.” He laughed as he scratched the back of his neck and looked at his feet. Now it was his turn to be embarrassed. He continued: “So you still didn’t answer my earlier question.”

“I didn’t?”

“Nope,” he said – popping the ‘p’ – “I asked if you were enjoying the view.” He smirked.

Right on cue, we reached our destination. I silently thanked the length of the store for getting me out of another embarrassment.

“Here they are.”

“Cheers, Hun.” He winked, causing me to flush a bright red once again.

I left him to decide on what he wanted from our selection of discs and walked back to the register, the blush now disappearing from my face, but nonetheless I still wanted to crawl into a small pit and die from embarrassment. I buried my head in the crooks of my arms and hoped that he would just leave without wanting to buy anything, but of course knowing my luck that wouldn’t happen.

~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~

“Well hello there, Red.” I heard a familiar, flirty voice say. I looked up and sure enough it was the man from earlier.

“My name isn’t red?” I was slightly confused, even if he was incapable of reading my name tag, I’d still told him my name earlier.

“No, but your face is.” He chuckled, before placing a few CDs from bands I hadn’t heard of on the counter.

“Blink not taking your fancy then?”

“There weren’t any albums I haven’t got at home.”

I nodded to let him know I understood, before I rung up his order and handed him his bag.

“Thanks, Cutie.” He winked, before slipping a small bit of paper under my hand. I swear to god, this man will be the death of me. I looked at the slip which simply had a few numbers messily scribbled under ‘Call me ;)’.

“Wait, I don’t even know your name!” I shouted as the man was leaving the shop. He turned around and smirked.

“It’s Mikey. Mikey Way.” He replied, before disappearing out of the doors.
