A Cut Cannot Heal, Unless You Leave It Alone
Mystery Man
Today was the day. Franks funeral. I don't want to go, but I know I have to. I was all he had. He was my everything, and now he's gone. He's dead.
I might as well be too.
We had an affair. For months. Actually we'd been together for years. Then out of the blue, we were both married and had kids. Just like that.
Don't get me wrong. I love my family, my beautiful little Bandit. I know Frank loved his family too, but after our affair was made public. Our wives left us. It was difficult, but we had each other.
A year ago I rolled over in bed to discover that Frank wasn't there. I thought maybe he went out for breakfast or job hunting. I was wrong. He was abducted. Gone. For an entire year, I went back to drinking. I only saw Bandit twice a week. My life was hell. For a while there I had Frank and he had me.
Not anymore. I now stared in front of the mirror. My hair falling around my face. Like a dirty mop. I needed a shower.
After my shower I trimmed my hair. Brushed my teeth. Then sprayed some cologne. Next was my suit. Simple tux. I walked out and the sun hit me like a tank. I hadn't been outside in a week. Ever since I got the notice on the funeral date. Today. My birthday. How fucking perfect.
I decided to walk. The graveyard wasn't very far. I arrived sorta early. The ceremony became a blur as I stood and listened to everyone talk about Frank.
Out of nowhere I heard laughter. My eyes followed my ear to two people sitting at the back. A male with medium length hair and a young girl scolding him for laughing. He was beautiful. The girl began harshly whispering and pointing towards me. He looked up and I'm met with piercing blue eyes. The male blushed and so did I before I looked away.
There was another man in all black. He was creepy looking. Scary even. He stood in the far back and the girl with that Mystery Man glared at him as if she hated his guts, but at the same time, I can tell from her eyes she had feelings for him.
Before I knew it, people were in line to say small things and give me their condolences. I looked at the line. Mystery Man was close, followed by that girl and the creepy guy. The girl and the creep kept staring at the coffin. It honestly just plain out gave me the creeps.
"Hey,"
When I looked up, I found those beautiful blue eyes again,
"Um, hi..."
I couldn't really trust my voice, I know I'd been in tears for the entire ceremony. The man smiled softly at me,
"I know it's hard, but the pain will fade soon, alright?"
I nodded,
"Thank you...."
I trailed off not knowing his name, he smiled again and offered his hand,
"Andy,"
"Gerard"
"I know."
That was creepy, he elbowed the younger girl. She snapped out of a trance and smiled up at me. She had to have only been about 15, but stood just an inch shorter than me. Her brown eyes met mine,
"I'm sorry for your loss...."
She smiled and left dragging the creepy guy with her. I saw Andy's eyes darken with anger. That can't be good. They left Andy and I alone, so I said the first thing that came to mind,
"Do you mind if I could have your number? You seem like someone who could help me through all of this"
