I'm not okay...yet
Stop one: New York (part 1)
We take turns driving until we reach New York city and book a hotel room for two nights that I pay for with money from the stash I've been saving since the sixth grade. I take the bed closest to the door and Gerard claims the one by the balcony, though the only view is of a crowded street. We both sit on my bed and make a list of things we want to do before this trip is over: 1) see the top of the empire state building, 2) see the grand canyon, 3) go to Hollywood, 4) find ourselves and finally, 5) change someone's life. I pull my plaid pajamas out of my bag and slip them on as the sun starts to go down; the pizza delivery man arrives and I pay him before Gerard gets out of the shower. His first words when he comes out are, "I smell it. I know it's my favorite. I can tell." He's right, it's pineapple and bacon. We eat it while watching The Breakfast Club on the hotel's flat screen and I fall asleep in the middle of their pot smoking and secret sharing.
When I wake up I'm tucked in under my favorite blue and white checked blanket from home. Gee must have packed it when I wasn't looking and wrapped me in it before he went to sleep, how sweet of him. I look over and see him laying on his side, snoring softly, cuddling his pillow. I get up, shower and brush my teeth. Today we'll check number one off of our list and get ready to leave in the morning. I put on my black veil brides tank top and floor length black skirt with my red converse and read until Gerard wakes up. When he does, I through him a pack of pop tarts. He's dressed in his smashing pumpkins T-shirt and jeans and we're on our way in no time. The empire state building is just a few blocks away and the walk up the many flights of stairs feels good, gets my heart pumping and mind racing; I have a good feeling about today.
