Everything Will Be OK

“Hi, what do you want?” I mumbled angrily into the phone. I began to hear a faint crying from the other line. Was my step mom crying? No she couldn’t be, because for all the years I’ve known her, she has never cried once. She finally spoke up. “Taylor ge-gett your things and co-come home now. “She stuttered. What the hell is going on? “Why?” I asked frustrated. There was silence from the phone but the sounds of crying got louder throughout the conversation. She was definitely crying. No doubt about it. “It-It’s your Dad…” She finally replied between sobs. That’s when everything around me froze. “What about my dad?” I didn’t want to hear anymore but I asked anyway. “He-he was in an accident when he was driving home from work. “She sniffled. I stood there in complete shock and wanted to cry but couldn’t. I didn’t know how to respond. My throat began to hurt from the sadness of hearing the news. “Ok, I will be home in a few minutes.”I managed to say without crying, and hung up. Gerard and Mikey both looked at me confused. “Is everything alright?” Asked Gerard in a concerned tone. Tears began to form in my eyes and I just stood still. A tear rolled down my cheek.”Tay-“ Mikey was about to say something when I interrupted him. “Look, I got to go. ”I mumbled over my hiccups. I grabbed my bag and headed towards the door. “What!? But you just got here. Why do u have to leave now?” Mikey exclaimed. “Taylor, is everything ok, I need to know. “Gerard asked even looking more concerned than earlier. “Gerard I am telling you the truth…I’m ok…Trust me.” I ran out the door before any of them could stop me. And headed for home.

When I got home, my stepmom and I hopped in the car and drove on our way to the hospital where dad was staying. We finally got there and entered through the hall to the room on the left. The room was empty. I looked back at my stepmother. Her cheeks were stained from tears and her eyes were bloodshot red. A few minutes passed, when a young nurse entered the room. “Hello, I’m doctor Hayworth. “The woman greeted us formally, shaking our hands. “Where is my husband? “My stepmother asked hastily. “Don’t worry ma’am he’s in the other room getting ready for his surgery.” The presence of being in the hospital sent cold shivers down my spine. “Can we see him?” I asked about to burst out crying. “Not until after the surgery is completed.” My eyes began to water. My step mom dragged me over to the waiting area to wait to hear the results of weather my dad would make it or not. We both were silent and didn’t say a word to each other. My phone vibrated rapidly to see that Gerard was calling me. There was no way I could talk to him at this time. I ignored the call and just continued to stay silent. My throat hurt when I swallowed. This couldn’t be happening right now. This all felt like a horrific nightmare that I couldn’t wake up from.

A few hours passed and the same nurse that met with us before, entered the waiting room. “Hello. May I please talk to your mom here?” She gestured over at my step mom. I nodded as they both left. I was curious on what they were discussing about, but I tried not to care. Eventually my stepmom came back with several tears rolling down her face. “What’s going on?” I asked, waiting for answers. She stood there silent until she finally spoke. “He’s going to be in a coma….”
