Fake Your Death

Chapter 9 - You Like To Watch

Summer of 2006

“And that’s it from me. I hope you all have a lovely rest of the day in this gorgeous LA weather. I’ll be back tomorrow with a very special guest; but until then, goodbye. Here’s Dance Dance by Fall Out Boy.” I slid the headphones of my head as I heard Rhiannon say ‘and we’re off.’
“Great show Jade. So many people were texting in saying they loved it! I think you might have secured a daily spot. Welcome to ZAMLA FM.”
“OMG thank you, thank you, thank you” I replied smiling. Everything had finally fitted into place. I squeezed my hands together trying to hold in my excitement.
“So do you want to know whose tomorrow’s guest is then?” she asked, grabbing some paper off the glass table besides us. I nodded in anticipation. My first ever mystery guest on the radio. “Let me just find it…ah, here it is. You’ll be interviewing My Chemical Romance.” My day was now 10x better.

My tiny hands were covered in sweat as I checked my hair for the tenth time. I nervously tapped my foot on the chair watching the clock. 1:01, 1:02, 1:03, 1:04, 1:05!!! They’re five minutes late. I had now started tapping my hands on the desk staring at the door. The lady at the front desk looked at my weirdly before getting up and leaving. She then came back with a tall glass of water. I thanked her, taking a sip of the cool water. Every time a car drove down the lane, I sat up. But every time I was let down. I turned my back at the door to look at the clock again. Ten past one. Ten minutes late. There must be traffic. It’s always traffic. Right? What if they don’t want to do the interview or what if they forgot? I took some deep breaths before standing up and pacing across the receptions floor. I suddenly jumped at the phone ringing.

“Hello. ZAMLA FM here. How may I help you? …I see…no worries…I’ll tell her…You’re welcome…goodbye” The receptionist put the phone down and walked towards the door on the right of me with her purple hair not far behind her. Five minutes later, Rhiannon came walking into the reception holding a cup of coffee. She walked over to me straight away meaning something was wrong. Her deep red top loosely sat on the tip of her belly button which was completed with a pair of black high waist shorts.
“Hey Jade. Look…the guys are stuck in a traffic jam on the highway. Apparently there was a massive crash between two lorries and it looks like they’re not going to get here anytime soon. I’m sorry but we’re going to have to cancel the interview and move it to another day. I know it’s your first day and all. You can still go on air at two cause the guys in the top spot loved you.”
“Okay. Thanks for letting me know. I’ll just go and get ready then,” I replied looking at the carpet. Just as I thought everything was going right, it fell back down again.
“Babe, don’t get upset. They’ll come another day meaning you’ll still get to meet them.” She ran her hand threw her beach blonde hair as she sat down with me on the bright blue sofa. She watched me as I continued to look at the floor. We sat like this for a while before the lady at the desk said it was 15 minutes until I was on the air.

2 weeks later

Lights blinded me in the eyes as loud music tried to destroy my ear drums. I was hidden in the corner away from everyone else. All night it had been “Oh congrats on the position” and “welcome newbie” and to be honest, it was scary being mobbed by loads of people. I searched around the room for familiar faces. Many of them were band members or other radio hosts. Everyone was dressed smart/casual dancing to the music. After a few minutes, I managed to catch a glimpse of Rhiannon’s long bright hair. I pushed my way past dancing guest only to find myself lost in the middle of everyone. That’s when I saw him. His glimmering white hair that glowed every time a light hovered over it. The way he smiled whenever he was told a joke. The way his eyes shyly looked at the people he was talking to. He had one of his hands grasped in his trousers pocket while the other gently played through his short hair. The crowd seemed to move as though it was Moses all over again just as he looked my way. Everything went slow motion as he smiled at me while I just stood still. Then everything came back to reality as the crowd moved together again. And he was gone.

I finally managed to get to Rhiannon but by the time I did, she said she had to go which meant she had found someone that would take her home. And yet again I was left alone in the crowd. But it was soon stopped when someone tapped on my shoulder. I spun around hitting the person in the face with my long wavy black hair.
“Oh god, I’m sorry!” I said as the person rubbed their eyes.
“Its okay” he said. My eyes widen when I realised who I hit my hair with. There in front of me was Gerard Way. “I just came over to say hi. I don’t think we’ve met before. I couldn’t go the night without not knowing who you are.”
I softly laughed before replying, “Hi, I’m Jade Richardson” and shaking his hand.
“I recognise your name. Are you sure we haven’t met before?” he asked.
“You were meant to come on my show two weeks back but you guys couldn’t in the end due to a traffic jam.”
“Oh yeah, sorry about that” he said, scratching his head, “Do you want to get out of here?”
“Sure” I answered calmly, trying to hide my excitement. I followed him out of the clubs door onto the street.

The warm evening LA wind brushed against my skin as I followed Gerard down the street.
“I know a nice place we can go” he said as we pushed further into crowd. We soon found ourselves in the suburbs of LA. The house were all nicely placed with their own personal space. Nothing like back in England.
“So what brought you to America Jade Richardson?” Gerard asked as we slowed down our pace.
“I wanted a fresh start from everything. Plus my friend said she could get me a job and here I am” I said crossing my arms as the air got colder.
“Where about in England are you from?”
“Well I grew up in Germany because my dad was in the army but we moved to Southampton when I was 18.”
“I’ve never been there before. Is it nice?” he asked as we climbed down some rocks.
“It has its moments,” we suddenly stopped to look at the view,”woah, this is beautiful” I said. We could see the whole of LA as the sun set. I followed Gerard as we sat down on the grass.
“I like it here. It makes me forget all my worries for a while” he said out loud after a while.
“Yeah, it does.” I said just as the last bit of sunlight disappeared.

Notes

Hey guys...
Yep, I dropped that bomb shell in the last chapter. So I thought, "this is a perfect time to do some more flash backs" God I'm mean (I'm not really in real life. I wouldn't hurt a fly)

I know I said Tuesday but my mum took my laptop to London with her so I couldn't post yesterday. I probably won't be able to post next tuesday either as I have a school trip.

Anyway
Comment because I love to hear your feed back
Vote so I know you like the story
Subscribe so you never miss an update

Until next time
